TIM SHEENS: TITANS MUST BE SHOWN PLENTY OF RESPECT

Wests Tigers Head Coach Tim Sheens says his players must respect whoever starts for the Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park on Saturday night.

After losing skipper and half-back Scott Prince to a bicep injury earlier in the week, the Titans today ruled out five-eighth William Zillman with a leg injury. Rookie Aidan Sezer will start at half-back with Jordan Rankin tipped to be the new five-eighth.

Sheens said his side could not afford to disrespect the Titans who finished strongly in the loss to the Broncos last Friday night. Gold Coast have also recorded a win over premiers Manly.

“We haven’t got 6 or 7 wins behind us. We have to work as hard as any team and against any team,’’ Sheens said.

“The Titans showed (against Brisbane) they have got plenty of spirit in the club. We are not in such a good position where we can expect to just turn up to win. We haven’t won there (Skilled Park) very often at all so we are expecting a tough game.

“They have a very strong forward pack. The big issue for us is making sure we respect whoever they start.

“If we start thinking Scott Prince is out and there alternatives are out (Zillman) and that they won’t turn up, well that’s the biggest mistake you will make.

“My big issue is for us to focus on our own game and make sure that we turn up and build on the two games we’ve won.

“We have just come off five losses. If we are not in the right frame of mind to continue to try and play well to continue to win, then we might as well not turn up this year and it is a waste of time thinking about any type of premiership.”

Sheens said it was a big game for all of his players and not just for possible NSW Origin candidates Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence, Keith Galloway and Aaron Woods.

“It is not a matter pushing for Origin, it is about playing well for your football team,’’ Sheens said.

“Our attitude has always been about playing well for your club, not playing for yourself.”

Asked again if Farah is the man for the NSW number jersey after a week of media speculation, Sheens refused to be drawn into the debate with the Australian Test Coach offering a short answer.

“I have carried Robbie as the second Test hooker now for three Four Nations tours, so that’s what I think of him,’’ Sheens stated.

Spot on Tim … They still have some good players in their team.
I still have memories of the baby broncos that night at Campbelltown.

Too bloody right Tim Wests Tigers can't afford to take anyone lightly especially at the moment. Wouldn't it be great to see the WTs totally focussed and clinical to pit the titans away in a confident and solid effort. A bit of razzle dazzle when appropriate but mainly good solid football showing good control. It will be a tough game both clubs need the win players need to turn up and for 80 minutes (not including the half time break).

:blah Last week Sheens warned the team to not take Sandow lightly, this week he doesn't want them to take the Titans team lightly. How about we show every team and their players respect when we come up against them. Even when we are up 31 points to zip

I find this to be a comical piece IF the rumour is true about Lawrence playing 5/8\. To me that in itself smacks of disrespect and contempt for the opposition.

I agree whole heartedly.
stay completely focused until final siren.
donn't care if its not pretty game.
do what is required, play simple, back each other up, tackle like life depended on it, and win.

Timmy is boring the fans with his speeches ,i can see why the players are switching off in games.
What hasnt been said by Sheensie that we havent heard before . o i know i resign.

the way to win this game is to make every hit count 3 in on every hit, every run must have agression , play the ball fast , no penalties , play like we did in the run home last year , i know we havent hit our straps but last week we showed how good we can start , this week we need the same for the whole game , do this and we will get our solid run going

Wtf? Nothing to do with sheens. A team clocking off anything over 20mins into the half has nothing to do with the coach.
He's a coach… What do you want? A shoutout? What a ridiculous post...
