Sorry GNR4LIFE . Have actually been overseas for much of the past few years so may have missed that one. But does that mean that any club can offer a contract to any player whenever they want?

I thought that, if he is tied up until the end of next year, we would still have the option of matching any other offer, as when Josh Papaali signed with Parramatta earlier this year. The Raiders matched the offer within the required time frame (not sure about the cut off date), hence he is still at the Raiders.

That is also true.

I think they will throw the kitchen sink at Moses (and Brooks and to a lesser extent Lovett and Santi) and that will be there main priority, if in the process they lose Simona, although not ideal a price they are willing to play.

If that is the case Im happy with that. I think Simona is a somewhere between a fringe and average(proper average not a euphemism for poor) first grader currently in good form.

I think if he goes to a club without a lot competition for spots he will carve out a nice career, I think that is in his best interest.

I agree Goose.

On the re-signings Simona isn't as high a priority as Brooks, Moses, Santi etc. We do have Teddy, Koro, Nofo and Mr T as young talented backs with a few more experienced guys in the mix too like Lawrence, Richards, and possibly Ayshford and Moltzen.

With other guys from SG ball to consider in the coming years as well you can't keep em all. If Simona is happy to take a 2 year 140k deal then great. If not, forget him We can't afford to pay him 250-300k.

And rollingstone that does all now make sense, being able to match an opposing offer, but still if a club offers way more money that doesn't mean much. Its the ability to have no other contracts shoved in their faces which is really key.

Not sure about people using Mr T in their examples of young up and comers, considering he is untested in First Grade.

Simona on the other hand has proven he's up to NRL standard.

I'd much prefer to let ashford and molten go, and try keep as many of the young guys as possible. Especially since Richards will only be here for a short time, and Lawrence's days could be numbered. We can't afford to be too short sighted here.

Same Abe. This talk about a deal being done has been going for a week now and no info has yet been concrete in one direction or the other. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire, so i believe there is definitely something happening. What i'm hoping is that perhaps the clubs are doing a deal. For example, The tigers may offer the Sharks Ayshford or Moltzen for example. I got to admit i don't hold a lot of hope. A lot of the signs point to someone leaving for the shire. Just hope we counter their final offer and snag him with the counter reply.

Maybe Ayshford AND Moltzen to sweeten the deal.

I would imagine their is a lot of horse trading going on at present, mainly to free up cash to retain the young guns.Simona has shown some very good form but I think their are a few in front of him at present, it will all come down to who they can shop around

Blake Ayshford could become the latest Tiger to defect to Cronulla in a move that could help the joint-venture club retain young gun Tim Simona.

Ayshford is contracted to Wests Tigers for next season but has been granted a chance to test his value on the open market.

That window closes at the end of the week and it's understood the Sharks are one of three Sydney clubs interested in him. The Sharks have already poached Bryce Gibbs, Andrew Fifita, Beau Ryan, Chris Heighington, Dean Collis and John Morris from the Tigers in recent years.

The Tigers are trying to secure outstanding young winger Simona, who is off contract at the end of the season. It's understood a number of rivals – including the Sharks – are already circling the Doonside Roos junior, who has impressed since making his NRL debut in 2011\. Should Ayshford move on, just a week after Eddy Pettybourne was released to the English Super League, there is likely to be more money under the salary cap to offer Simona.

Chief operating officer Grant Mayer declined to discuss the Ayshford situation, but said he was hopeful of positive news on Simona. "He's very much part of our plans, but the salary cap is a jigsaw puzzle and it's one step at a time," Mayer said.

"He's been a big part of our discussions of late from a retention point of view."

The Tigers are also hoping to retain Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses and have tabled offers to the young halves. "They are on contract for next year, they've both been identified as priorities but we're prepared to work to the timeframe their manager says," Mayer said.

Tigers officials have given fans an insight into the plans of the joint-venture club by answering questions posed by fans on social media. In his online responses, Mayer said coach Mick Potter is able to appoint his own support staff, dismissed concerns the club's horrific injury toll is the result of mismanagement, and hinted there could be changes afoot when quizzed about the training facilities at Concord. "From my experience, we are a fair way behind the market leaders," Mayer said.

"We need to make some very big decisions regarding our facilities now."

It must be a real challenge trying to work under the salary cap it would be a lot easier if those demanding big money played to the expected standard consistently, if they aren't then the club is better off without them so that young players who are worth keeping or experienced players like Ayshford can be kept instead of having to be moved on.

The bottom line is the Tigers have to employ the same person that does the Roosters salary cap figures…they never are over the cap!

The past administration saddled us with plenty of contracts that were knee jerk reactions to some very short term form shown by a few players, rather than took their long term form into consideration.

Unless we can offload a few players we are going to have a few big contracts in reserve grade next year or it will force some very good talent out of the top grade and even maybe out of the club. Let the horse trading begin

what annoys me is that cronulla were the highest fined club in 2012 for salary cap breaches, they always crying poor and going cap in hand to the NRL for advances and then come out offering contracts to anyone on the market - the hierarchy need to police the whole thing a lot more closely.

I really like the Tigers moves lately. Mayer is doing a fantastic job trying to get the club in line (i.e. Benji) and start a mini cleanout.

Ayshford is good, but not great. Simona can easily replace him and will probably be on less coin. We really need some speed in our outside backs again and I'm glad that we finally have that focus. Koro, Simona, Nofo, Mr T & Richards all have a bit of pace about them.

Very pleased to read this this morning. Was quietly hopeful more than expecting this news to be true. I know the Sharks had shown interest in Aysh but i thought perhaps they'd passed on him and targeted Simona instead. Here's hoping we get a win-win situation for both clubs here.

You'd think the Sharks would have learnt after Dean Collis… Ayshford is a reasonably solid NRL player but his career has stalled badly. Whether a change of club is the answer remains to be seen but I don't think his departute is anything to lose sleep over.

I didn't know Eddy Pettybourne was granted a release, so now if they allow Ayshford to leave, there will be enough coin to afford a new contract for Simona. I am fine with that

They got fined 150k and thats without the 200k we are helping them with..so they are 350k over the cap, wow.
