Time For Benji Marshall to Retire

You were right first time. Benji needs to retire. I don't care if it doesn't look like there's anyone better. Wests Tigers are all but certain to miss the finals, and if we're relying on Benji to direct play again in 2020, we'll miss out again. I wish he'd get injured too so the coach was forced to use Grub at 6. Nothing to lose.

It will take an injury for the Madge love of Benji to end, it is bordering on JT and Rankin

I seriously wouldn't be wishing injury on any of our players...but that's me

What a low post! I really think that is disgusting!

I'm sorry but the Benji penalty in the second half was BS. He didn't lie in the tackle, that was a ref trying to flex in the second half just like the stupid send-offs.
THE match where we dont have liddle, Robby gets injured. Guys thats just bad luck. If you think we should replace our spine before replacing our forwards, you underestimate the importance of having forwards who get up quickly and who punch the line. More time, more options for the 1,6,7,9.
We lost. But we lost with bad luck penalties in the second half, no Garlic sauce, a freak injury to a hooker we cannot replace, Mbye injury right at the start. C'mon guys we're not the roosters, when our good players go down, we dont have that much backup.
Personally I'm gutted but I like what I see in the combinations that are forming, Momo who is looking good, Masters refinding a bit of form.

Benji was on there long enough to call for a pillow, as ET was up and back in the defensive line.

Exhibit 'A'; check out the bunnies game when Aloiai was also ruled out. It then took another couple of losses to bring back the prop that laid the early foundation for that win, along with spark off the bench in Liddle.

@4jtigers Stop making excuses for Brooks. With or without Marshall beside him he is useless. His first game for us was his best game. When was that again???

All good points - but we lost due to the simple fact that we couldn't kick a ball between 2 sticks. Our opposition managed this task....

useless? the coach doesn't think so... until he has full reign of the team we will never know what he can or can't do... am not making excuses, he does go missing in clutch situations and I wonder why? hmmm... I think we know the answer to that and it has to do with the ball being handled by the "senior players" - put all the young ones out there for all I care and you will see he will feel the senior one and be demanding the ball... with Marshall and Farah on the side doesn't help... those two will always want the ball and you will never see Brooks shine because of it

I swear some on this Forum can’t accept that our coaching group isn’t anywhere near as good as they think

I don't think they are particularly good or not good. Jury is out on Madge for me, because he's only had 1 season in charge with a roster he didn't pick. He's got a pass mark at the moment.

All the other blokes that report to Madge - wouldn't have a clue? I cannot claim to know the club inner-workings or the KPIs upon which individual coaching staff are measured. I have no idea if Webster is a good assistant coach. I wouldn't have a clue what Craig Sandercock does day-to-day.

All I can do is judge what is fact; what is information available to me, and decide what is reasonable. To suggest that a coach is flawed or to be criticised because his physios cleared a player who had a twinge, to be is unreasonable. To expect that any player who twingers in the warm-up gets replaced, so as to not risk further injury, is unreasonable.

@jirskyr
Agree.
And moreover, the playing roster is bang average.
Considering how most of us thought we would go in 2019 (realistically), this season is more-or-less on par with expectations, maybe even a bit higher.
We are just emotional right now due that heartbreaking loss.

The team on a whole has exceeded my expectations. Other than one- eyed WTs supporters with their blinkers on, no one gave them a hope of making the eight, and most still don't because no one rates our roster.
Three of our players that are taking up the major part of our cap have contributed the least - that is not how a good roster is meant to operate.

Ph my god, nailed it TT

@Telltails The coach can not be really judged at present ... as you have stated the Roster is the problem ATM and all can see that . I always thought about 10th this season , my concern is that there seems no positive pathway into next season and the possibility of 2 veterans wanting to continue which Imo will not be a positive move .The team needs to
mature with Brooks finally taking control the constant use of Marshall and Farah have done nothing for the team in general moving forward ,these 2 rightly command respect but it is time this changes .
I can only comment on the broader coaching ranks by the way the lower grade teams are turned out and with that it is pretty poor , so this area certainly can be improved with some new blood. All in all the team will
finish where I thought the negative aspect for me is the way the loses have occurred and there should definitely of been a few more victories.

Agree. Overall there are a few teams who are streets ahead in terms of their roster, and then the rest are capable of winning on any given day depending on the variables - attitude, good coaching and prep, refereeing and penalties ,injuries, goal kicking, and some luck. For us to win I think we have to have most of those variables go our way. Pleasingly bar a couple of howlers this year I think the commitment and attitude from the team has been pretty good under Maguire.
A big worry is that next year looks bleak in regard to recruitment again, which leaves us in a similar predicament, and no doubt the blame will then be directed at the coach regardless of what he has to work with.

If this were a lawn bowls forum I’d say sign him ASAP

And who would create any, and I mean any opportunities in attack for us?
