Time for our backs to step up!

Last week the forwards started to turn things around with a solid effort. Now it is time for our backs, whom apart from Benji and Beu really have been woeful.

Lote is so far short of a run he should be doing laps all training. Chris needs to get his head right and Reddy needs to run faster than a slow canter. If Blake finds himself in the centres he needs to do all the basics at 100% and Humble could take the line on with some more commitment too. And Timmy, well he needs to forget that last week ever happened and play like his future depends on it - which it probably does!

If they give Jennings a sniff he will be away and none of them will catch him.

Don't like to be hard on the boys, but it is TIME!

I just hope it is Lawrence defending Jennings. He did keep hodges quiet

Hmm…I thought Hodges was outstanding last week. So if that was keeping him quiet, I would hate to see him when he is poorly marked. I agree though that If Chrissy plays well, he gives us more go forward and gets us moving with a bit of confidence. And, he is an awesome defender as well. He's just not quite at the top of his game at the moment but he will turn it around for sure. Hope it starts this week!

Rowdy missed Hodges 3 times on Friday , twice in one set . I know Hodges is probably the premier centre in the game but everyone knows Hodges is a right foot step and he continually did him with it

Our centers have done very little this year thus far. I have defended Moltzen for so long now, but I believe if he doesn't produce something resembling a solid mistake free game over the next couple of weeks he has to go. Letting those bombs bounce last week was unforgivable and knocking on 10meters out from his own line is amateurish. Now Tiquiri has a couple of games under his belt he needs to step it up also. I may have missed it on this forum but I havn't read too much about his errors that have lead to tries or at least handovers to the opposition at crucial moments. I never thought I would be saying this but Ryan is about the only consistent back. I know it was late in the game last week but I also enjoyed seeing Humble scoring that last try. I think he and Moltzen need to create those options for Marshall by creeping up on the inside at angles, keeping the defence in 2 minds. I think if Moltzen doesn't improve dramatically, Reddy has to go to fullback. He may lack a bit of pace but he hasn't done anything wrong when he's been given his chance.

You must be kidding! Lawrence's form all year has been bad. Every game you can count on him to loose the ball in a tackle and miss tackles. Kept Hodges quiet? Not in the game I was watching. All our outside backs (except Ryan) have been way below their best. What about Ashford? He's our worst performer. Last year he was great; hard to tackle and always troubled the the other team's backs. This year; PATHETIC!!! I cringe whenever the ball gets anywhere near him. :blah

Backs def need to step up…the pigs have.

IMO we need more inside runners.....

Lawrence is just holding his line and Bunji is cramping him up when he comes across.

I'd like to see him arc back in every now and then....I'm seeing big gaps inside Bunji ,not outside.

Totally agree with you Simon with Lawrence running different angles and totally agree that the forwards have stood up defensively

But they haven't stood up with getting us some good field position When they get us some quality field position the backs will look better imo

I don't think it's the pigs effort that isn't getting us metres.

It's execution,bad hands and options.

And…we simply don't have as much ball as the opposition.

We did defend very well for repeated sets on our line against a hot side.

To me that showed a lot.

Benji reminds me of an old song by Gene Pitney - 'Half heaven , half heartache'
When he takes the right options we look good - he is the one who decides to set the backs in motion , go himself or kick.
Let's hope he gets that ball into the right hands at the right times this week.

Our backs are not standing back enough in attack.

Where has Ashyford's form gone to? Maybe he is sick of all the so called in fighting and wants out.???

when big cats clash you need the forwards going forward , stinging defence from all , and backs that just turn it on , come on tigers you know you can do it , if we play well , the score willl smell gooooddd

Hodges racked up 170 odd metres in attack up against Lawrence. Agree with the topic though, the Tigers backline has looked pedestrian this year and really need to aim up.

Bah!!

I dont get this Lui love.

To me he looked ordinary, and was the worst defender in the side.

Not worried at all about him.

SImon, I totally disagree. Lui gave the team genuine shape in attack

He was a talented halfback, he toke eyes off Benji and provided a dangerous running, passing and kicking game.

He was a hit and miss defender although we made the Top 4 his only 2 years at halfbacks. The 4 previous years we had no halfback and didn't make the finals. This year in not looking too promising.

For mine is talent was under rated here because of the strange and pathetic Moltzen love in some had. Benji's best mate is a dud and always has been a flashy player who will do something good when your 20 up.

At least the NRL finally after a massive petition has banned the grub Lui for the year.

Would of really pissed me of if he played for the cow's this year.

Couldn't have said I better myself.

People bagged the shit out of Lui for his defense (most of it warranted as he couldn't tackle a wet paper bag) but we made the top four two years running with him at 7.

Against the Dragons in 2010 he was close to the best player on the park in a losing side and in the loss to the Warriors last year he was also one of our best. He stepped up when it mattered and was more reliable than both Marshall and Farah in these games.

His kicking game was often better and more consistent than Marshall but most importantly he took genuine pressure off Benji with both his kicking and running game.

Let's face it, if he didn't belt his Mrs he would still be here and we would all be laughing at Timid Tim not contesting bombs at fullback for the Dragons.

The losses of Lui and Gibbs have killed us and the injury to Tedesco was a massive blow as it left us without a genuine, quality fullback.

Let's get Biddah back then,he could play a bit too,but would conced three tries a game with his non defense.

But that's ok as long as u replace Moltzen.
