Time to Give Credit to JT?

Well what a decade the Tigers and club have been a basket case ! We all know this we all have been ranting about this for years .
Enter Jason Taylor the new management and new owners of the club ,did we think that last year it was all going to turn around in half a season or more think not!
It is not only what Taylor has done to turn the toxic culture of our club around, but also seemingly a professional bunch of people finally running the club.
I do not think Taylor is the greatest coach around but I do give him credit for drawing a line and standing his ground for what he believed had to be done to change the culture. The disgusting verballing and horrid things that have been written say more about some of the supporters of our club than anything .
Will we make the finals I think we will fall short but I will certainly give Jason Taylor credit for finally making the Tigers competitive and strong well done!

If Snake was CEO of the club, would he sign Taylor beyond 2017 and if so, what criteria would he use for doing so ?

He's done alright, especially with the drama's throughout the year….......to have kept the team relatively focused is an achievement

The Answer to that is no ..but I would give him next season with a mid season review ,I would also like to see what shape the salary cap was moving forward into 2018 as I firmly believe there needs to be additions to the team which would impact the decision moving forward re coaching
My criteria would also be based on better training facilities moving forward as I think credit has to be given to the coaching staff for dealing with sub standard trying facilities these last few seasons .
All in all Taylor has next season to prove what he has set in stone if no real improvement comes no …a new coach should be sourced for 2018.If I was the CEO I can only see an upside to the whole club in general moving forward if new training facilities can be brought online and some cash available for some player and coaching staff additions the sky is the limit!

I agree …. By the half way point next season, we need to show we are a serious premiership threat for the club to resign him. If we struggle again then we need to find someone else.

And how has that had a negative affect on us this yr?

I completely agree with this. It hasn't hurt us this year or maybe better put it hasn't hurt us much this year. It was just a year where we underperformed significantly.

I think the thread topic is about giving him credit. He does deserve credit for this year's performance so far. The team need to finish it off though.

I think resigning him is a big call. He was terrible last year and I think he owes us a good season this year. This year isn't over either. There is still time to stuff this year up.

I'm happy to resign him based on the performance of the team but he shouldn't be resigned yet.

I don't think its that big a call. If we finish the yr strongly, an extension to 2018 would give us some short term stability and a coach would be in place for 2018 when negotiating with the 1, 6 and 7.

We are doing worse this year than I thought (yes - I'm sure someone will go back over a thousand posts to try and prove me wrong) - even allowing for the fact I thought JT would show himself a poor coach again.
Another year for the young guys to get stronger and more mature in their play and the team to grow was always on the cards.
The players, and especially our star players, are getting us results - not Taylor.
With some better team selections and game plans through the year we would be sitting pretty in the eight.

No matter how well JT goes, there's a significant number of people here that won't ever give him credit. I was angry at Potters demise, and I was damn annoyed at how JT came in and basically ran down the place in terms of how the players were playing and where we were positioned without crediting our circumstances with injury and so on. Then came Taylor ball and I was totally down. But, things have changed. We've been winning when not playing well and every now and then we have a great performance. More improving in terms of the difference between our worse games and our better games and he really should be re-signed. Things are looking very positive in my eyes. Making the 8 this year should not and will not be considered in what lies ahead for him I don't think. Next year is important however. It's very obvious that our players have been on the improve over the last 8 or so weeks. With a few more decisions going our way in certain games we would definitely make it to the finals. A result that few thought possible at the beginning of the season - me included.

Pretty well what WD said, though I did expect us to be about where we currently sit.

He also let go of a show pony with an impressive set of guns and replaced him with a couple of solid middle men as they came on the market who have since excelled since coming under his wing. To hear our youngsters talking about believing in his direction and game plans seals the deal.

Yes, letting Tapau go was shrewd and was an acknowledgment of rule changes.

Many pundits are trying to explain the demise of Souths. I think it is pretty simple - the interchange reduction to 8\. Many of their forwards are "impact" forwards with lower stamina.

Hence the Tapau release and the Grant purchase have been real positives this season. Would Tapau had been able to play 60 effective minutes on Sunday like Grant did? Doubt it. We have a workman like pack that can play long minutes, but with just enough "impact".

Who cost his side their finals chances last week. Sue has been twice the player that narcissist has been this yr. And at least half the price.

So far so good.. Big Improvements on individual players from last season, starting to gain consistency and a squad starting to by into and play to one game plan. He must have done something right.

I think he has done a reasonable job. I can't comment on his coaching ability, I doubt anyone here can and unless they personally know Taylor and know his style/techniques. He's certainly got the team playing as a cohesive unit and I like the style of football we are playing, so all good from what I see.

The fact he's managed to maintain the players focus over the last month is probably his biggest achievement. 2 yrs ago when it erupted under Potter, the players turned to water. Under JT they have raised their game. He deserves credit.

A lot on here have forgotten about Craig Sandercock.

I don't think so, and for mine more credit to Taylor for bringing him here and praising his input. The complete team he originally assembled and subsequent changes have most of our squad available to fire each and every week. When he himself was an assistant at the chooks, the team was firing and Robinson spoke well of his tactical input.

I think credit has to be shared with our chair as she has driven a change of culture from top to bottom, with only one hiccup in backing a change upon the arrival of our new CEO. I suggest hat all listen to an interview posted on WT website last week. She has the acumen and real passion for the club.

Also loving the aggressive Suaso and his continued on field rise GNR, and that he is such a good person off the field that enjoys a hug with the chair.

I will give Taylor credit for sticking to his guns with his decisions even if unpopular and I don't necessarily agree with all of them..

He certainly has the team focussed on the field …playing consistent football in the last 3 months...

I still get the feeling he is Our Brian Smith with the dirty work done for the next bloke who comes in reaping the benefit...If Farah is gone 2017 he will have HIS squad and will have no excuse if results don't flow early...

I'm not sure what you mean. This is my opinion on the subject and it isn't factual. I don't think Taylor is a tactical coach or a coach that comes up with good game plans. I think what has happened is that he has employed Sandercock to do that for him. I think Taylor is now more managing the team and using the resources that he has available to him rather than trying to do something that he is poor at.

I'm 100% cool with that and it explains why his coaching was so bad last year and the significant improvement this year.

Of course it's just a guess but it makes sense.
