I saw the same news report. My heart sank -reading between the lines -I doubt we'll see him. It was a wicked tackle from Ben Smith and a rotten tactic to get rid of Tui for that game. Hope the guys all right but you'd have to think it's a long shot now.

Tuiaki's future looks bleak

BARNSTORMING Wests Tigers winger Taniela Tuiaki's NRL career could be over in a matter of weeks after another round of specialist appointments provided little hope of a full recovery from his debilitating ankle injury.
Tuiaki, the club's leading tryscorer in 2009, failed to take the field for the Tigers last year.
He had hoped to make it back this season after extending his contract until the end of 2011.
"It's been an unfortunate injury for the big fella and I'd like to think he'll get back but reality says from the doctors that it might not happen," Tigers coach Tim Sheens told reporters on Monday.
"Until that is a definite from the specialists we'll just have to sit and wait.
"He's had two specialists look at it, he's had a number of surgeries and so we have to weigh it all up, probably in the next couple of weeks.
"He's in a bit of strife and the specialists will determine what the next move is - cartilage transplants, rests, whatever, they've tried lots of things."
The devastating news for the 28-year-old could open the door for another Kiwi international, former Canterbury winger Matt Utai, to revive his NRL career.
Utai has been training with the Tigers and the decision on Tuiaki will have a major bearing on whether the ex-Bulldog picks up a contract.
"That probably is an insurance," Sheens said.
"Keeping as much depth as we can is important so if we do lose the big fella I'll want to have another option there."
Mitch Brown, Beau Ryan and Geoff Daniela would also vie for the right wing position, with Test star Lote Tuqiri having a mortgage on the left.
Meanwhile, Tigers English international Gareth Ellis is the latest star to be ruled out of next month's All Stars clash.
Ellis has an ongoing groin injury which the Tigers hope won't require surgery.
"We just want to be sure that doesn't become a nagging thing that plagues him through the year and leads to surgery," Sheens said.
"At the moment we don't think surgery."
On the positive side for the Tigers, talented utility Tim Moltzen has completed an entire pre-season after undergoing a knee reconstruction last year.
"He's got his strength back in his knee, got his speed back and he's looking really good," centre Chris Lawrence said.
The Tigers play trials against North Queensland in Townsville on February 11, Parramatta at Campbelltown on February 19 and the Sydney Roosters at the Sydney Football Stadium on February 26.

'It doesn't look good': coach says Tuiaki battling to resume career

EIGHTEEN months ago Taniela Tuiaki was the most powerful winger in the game, but he hasn't played since shattering his ankle late in the 2009 season and now the Wests Tigers star is facing the very real possibility his career might be over.
Asked yesterday how Tuiaki was placed, having not played at all last season and with the new season almost upon us, Tigers coach Tim Sheens replied: ''It doesn't look good for him. He is in the middle of working with the specialists and the doctors at the moment. It doesn't look good, but I'm not going to come out and say anything just yet until we get other opinions.
''It has been an unfortunate injury for the big fellow. I like to think he will get back, but reality from the doctors says that it might not happen. Tigers rehabilitation manager Andrew Leeds explained that every time Tuiaki, 28, had reached the stage in his rehab where he has tried to put pressure on the ankle, it has not been able to take it.
''He had extensive cartilage damage, and it's still giving him grief,'' Leeds said. ''He has stripped a lot of cartilage off the top of a major weight-bearing bone in his ankle, so it's compromised. We're hoping he can get back on the field, but every time we've tried to run him there has been a problem, and we've had to step back for a while. It's still a struggle for him at this stage.''
Tuiaki, who had scored 21 tries in 22 games before his 2009 season ended in agony, told the Herald: ''I've just got to keep plugging away, and doing my rehab. I'm determined to keep going.''

Dont know what to say except i hope the big tank is o.k, if he cant play i hope the tigers give him a job @ the club as he brought so much enjoyment to the fans, good luck tank.
I don't remember which parra player did it, the article I just looked up didn't tell me but if it turns out you can't play - sue the bastard McCracken style mate. It was a targeted hit from an angle designed to do that to you.
Aside: peeved about Ellis not being in all-stars but hope he gets over his groin injury for us.

Shattered as a Tiger supporter but more shattered as a league follower. We may have lost the best winger ever to play this game right before he was going to hit the peak.

Can't even imagine what this bloke might be going through but his spirit is ever-lasting and as he said himself, he's determined to keep going. Hope atleast his determination pays off.
