To all the Balmain folk.

Its OK to have some friendly banter about the past and our past teams (Like Watto and I do about Brisbane Easts and Brisbane Wests ) but Balmain and Wests are ghosts of their former selves

Let them die with some dignity and pour your heart and soul behind the Wests Tigers

They are going to need all of our help over the next few years just to survive in my opinion

If the Wests Tigers die , what would we all do then ??

A lot of people seem to forget that both Western Suburbs and Balmain supply our juniors.
Are we saying Weststigers take a leaf out of the Roosters, Melbourne etc and just forget the kids?

Not at all CK

Everyone is referring to the senior aspirations

I bet the junior clubs probably run at a profit or at least break even worst case scenario

Ive got better things to spend $2k on than a footy club Ive watched make the semis 11 times in 44 years

11 times since 1970!!!

Ive bought memberships for the last 6 or 7 years, been member of both Balmain & Magpies FC's…both their leagues clubs too.

Another $2000???

LOL...yeh right

That's everyone's right to say no and many will say no. It was just a thought for a bail out seeming people don't want to see their traditional roots disappear. I was explaining to you the idea because I thought you might have presumed that it was only for current members. Mate we've all spent and will spend towards the colours, merchandise all looks good and you'd buy all of it if you were cashed up. Don't forget though, to a non league or general sport follower, they think we're crazy and stupid how we get caught up and mesmerised by something that they'll never understand, but to us its a religion. FFS I lose it when the WT are playing, at that point in time nothing else matters, and I mean nothing. But you piss me off with your LOL yeah right, Whats that getting at, returning serve to win some pointless argument you want to create out of it. I never started this post to see who's the biggest supporter, it was all intended to say, get something done before it's to late. Two years will pass like 2 minutes. Can you imagine every debate ended with yeah right, how many do you think will take you serious when you have something to say, think about. You know what, you've got the passion, it's in your veins. Until we fine tune some solution, hold onto that $2000\. Your shout.

Scrap the Balmain / Wests side of the idea.

What about if the option was $2-4k for a permanent membership to Wests Tigers. Comes with a seat at any wests tigers game (forever) and we collectively get to vote one member onto the Wests Tigers board. Voting component stays with annual $100 shareholder contribution.

Club agrees that all money goes into facilities, not player payments or admin costs. Our money goes in, builds a stronger club, and stays in.

10 years or so of membership price upfront.

Getting away from the Wests v. Balmain quagmire and referring back to the original post, here is an idea for consideration:

Now I don't know how the voting structures work with the Rugby League clubs as I've never been a voting member of either, but the football team I follow in the Spanish La Liga, Athletic Bilbao is a registered association. So instead of a limited company type scenario where you purchase shares in the club, you can only purchase membership. From these members, they vote the delegates who will run the club.

You could purchase a non-ticketed or ticketed membership (which would be a nightmare controlling with our 3-ground scenario,) and for your financial injection into the club you get voting rights. 30,000 ticketed members paying $500 (just an arbitrary value,) each would guarantee $15,000,000 in revenue yearly, plus the NRL club grant and sponsorship.

Imagine that, a $7m grant, $15m in voting members with sponsorships, stadium payments and merchandising on top of that. The club would never go broke again.

However, the stumbling blocks would likely include;

- The eventual need to play most/all games out of Homebush to accommodate large ticketed member numbers. This would also be needed to drive down the cost of ticketed memberships to encourage larger numbers;
- Following on from the previous point, initially we could feasibly retain one game at LO and CSS which would require separate ticketing to attend to avoid the problem of having more ticketed Homebush members than seats at either suburban ground. This removes the parochialism on which the game was founded which may be an issue for some of the fans over the age of 25 and would most likely still represent a large percentage of the paid up membership base. However, I feel this is key in moving away from the two clubs of the past and forging the proper identity of the Wests Tigers, whilst still tipping the hat to the parent clubs;
- Agreement on reasonable pricing for non-ticketed members;
- The organisational structure of the governing body;
- Maintaining the lineage to Wests and Balmain, especially with junior development;
- Most importantly, purchasing the club from BRLFC & Wests Group and it's transition into a registered association.

I honestly think it could work if these problems could be resolved.

Ok..ok…I'll scrap the lols and Yeh rights

But if only approx 300/400 are passionate enough to part with $20 odd per year for a FB membership....The idea you will find 2000 with 2k for a club that plays 18s at the highest level just is.not realistic to me at all

You will not find them...they don't exist

I agree, it wouldn't work at BRLFC level.

Not having a dig at the OP either, just to make that clear. I am just so very sick of all the worthless factional s*** that the two founding clubs seem to bring as baggage.

Forget about me and those my age and concentrate on those 15 or under who only know Wests Tigers and couldn't give a flying [automatically edited] about Balmain or Wests

I'm loving it personally. Finally the underdog is having it's day. Balmain had the run of the show and now Wests are gathering some momentum. The sooner the Magpies are flying high the better.

The Magpies supporters have been raising funds for the RMC, memberships to the Wests Magpies are skyrocketing. Good times !!!!

Which Magpie supporters??
The 23 of them at last Monday night's match??
:roll
