To be serious contenders rests on one position

To be a contender you do need a gun fullback. Unfortunately whether its Ryan, Reddy or Moltzen, none of them are a great answer. Whoever it is that we pick from them, is probably the weakest fullback in the comp.

But beside that, if anyone thinks that the fullback is the only spot that is holding us back from being a good team then they are deluded. It is now round 19 and we have strung probably 5 decent performances together and other than a game against Canberra (who played like a park side), we have never clicked once. Here are some other things stopping us from being a contender:

Our forwards rarely role forward (we never ever have a great 50m+ set from good hit ups)
we hardly have any forwards who can take a good 10m+ hit up, role forward and just get a quick play the ball (makes it so much easier for the next runner)
our defence is breakable
we have no pace in the backs
we have very little flair in the backs
we have no kicking game
we only have a couple of elusive runners (marshall and BMM) and none of them run the ball that much
we play one down every match
we have the worst fullback in the NRL (whoever we pick…name a worse number 1)

mate you are 100% spot on, we dont deserve to make the 8 the way we have played this year all rubbish.

We need to move moltzen from fullback…. He is a serious liability back there. We need to put Ryan there and reddy to the wing. I like Tim moltzen and he tries hard but IMO he is best served as a utility on the bench.

Come round 21 we should be as close to full strength as we can be minus lote and Tim is the weak link and biggest liability to a serious title run. Not his ability as a footballer just as reliable fullback.

Btw I think that bench last night is where we need to be the rest of the season we didn't get over run and that bench had alot to do with it

IMO is the perfect balance

I agree with moving Blair to lock, but i dont agree with Ryan as a fulltime fullback and Reddy on the wing. No way we can win the comp with the slowest backline in history.

How about this…...Ryan moves to fullback and Moltzen moves to the centres for Ayshford. I always had a concern over Moltz defending at centre but his defence has improved enough to handle it. This allows us to bring Koroibete onto the wing.

Now for me, Beau lacks the attack of a fullback, so id be suggesting a simple switch when we have the ball. Beau attacks as a right centre, and Moltz goes into the roaming role of fullback. Very simple switch, which gives us the safety of Beau at fullback, the attack of Moltz at fullback, and the speed of Koro on the wing.

Absolutely spot on.

An advantage you get at the ground as opposed to television is you can see how the defence line gets organised.

Moltzen is constantly telling players what to do, where to go, where the numbers are. When Ryan plays fullback this does not happen.

This has got to be it, because the evidence is very clear that, under a high ball, Moltzen struggles. We have conceded AT LEAST 3 tries from bombs going up, and come finals time teams will exploit this if they haven't already.

Fan favourite Fulton missed a simple one on one tackle that led to Kingstons try, arguably a far easier skill to execute, no one is calling for him to be sacked and all the rest of it that Moltz endures if he makes a mistake.

In his last game before being hurt against the Roosters he was close enough to our best.

Moltzen leaders the team in line breaks, tries and last night yes he dropped one bomb but he also saved a miracle try and he also generally makes over 100 m at fullback. Also we look a lot more dangerous with him n the team

TBH, I'm gona back the team which is picked by the coach who has coached more 1st grade games than anyone else, 99.9% of the time.

Moltzen is our best option at Fullback .

Moltzen can't catch bombs and offers zero support play unless he's running off Marshall (who hardly runs anymore).

But everyone knew this before the Penrith game surely? It is hardly an isolated incident.

As I said at the time when Tedesco got injured, it was a massive, massive blow. A bigger blow than most people realised.

Sort of contradictory this title (rest on one position, but make these changes 😕 ).

The spine is settled, has been since Sironen got his call up. Only injuries have forced re-shuffles.
There is no way Sheens is going to change 1\. Moltzen, 7\. Marshall, 6\. Sironen, 9\. Farah before this seasons out.

Last week everyone was calling for Marshall to go back to 6, this week Ryan to fullback.

I'll admit that Moltzen suffers from nerves after dropping a bomb and he's not as safe under the high ball as Ryan, but by far and away the Sheens spine is the most dangerous in attack and as somebody else mentioned Moltzen is very vocal in defence and I've heard Robbie, Sheens and Benji mention it a number of times how important Moltzen is at the back for communication in defence.

I back Moltzen to have some big games coming up provided he can stay on the field.
