Todd Payten pleads guilty to urinating on Hyde Park memorial

Agreed: showed remorse, took responsibility and apologized. Faced up to it like a man and didn't try to blame others or society or the "pressures" of the nrl or being a public face. Far as I am concerned we all make mistakes- book closed.

As a Man to a Man I have no respect for a person that desecrate our fallen heros ,as of today I don't want Tod Payten anywhere near our club,.I am offended by this as this is personal.

Booze changes people, rarely for the better it seems..

Let's move on.

Such a shame to end your career on such an embarassing note. Alcohol brings out the worst in some people.

WESTS TIGERS STATEMENT REGARDING TODD PAYTEN

Concord Oval
Tuesday 8 November, 2011

By Wayne Cousins
Wests Tigers Media & Communications Officer

Wests Tigers can confirm former player Todd Payten appeared in Downing Centre Local Court today and pleaded guilty to a charge of “commit offensive or indecent act on or near war memorial”.

Whist the charge was “conditionally dismissed”, a deeply remorseful Payten said that he was keen to make amends for a terrible mistake.

“I was not aware of my surroundings and definitely didn’t know that I was in the vicinity of such a respected site,’’ Payten said.

“I am incredibly sorry for what I did and I apologise unreservedly to all Diggers and their families both past and present. I’d also like to apologise to my family, friends and the general public.

“I have also offered my direct apologies to the Returned Services League (RSL) and will be making a personal donation of my time and money to assist with the wonderful work they do.”

Wests Tigers Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said it was a very unfortunate and unintentional incident that Todd is both remorseful and embarrassed about.

“Todd is aware that he will receive his share of public humiliation for this but it is important to recognise that he has admitted his wrong doing and has already taken steps to make amends with the RSL,’’ Humphreys said.

“During his long and distinguished NRL career, Todd has earned great respect for his character and his commitment to community work. He has been a great ambassador for our Club and the game and I’d hope that he continues to be thought of in this way.”

the War Memorial reeks

of urine.

Why is it that in Hyde Park, so many people relieve themselves on the War Memorial when there so so many trees around and probably in darkness ?

Can WT not stay out of th news for more than a day or two without something 'happening" ?

Toddy joins the ranks of Willie Mason, Scott Prince, Anthony Watmough, Terence Seu Seu, Todd Carney, Julian O'Neil, Steve Michaels, Nick Kenney, Tupou, Cronk, Finch, Don Mckinnon (on the field) and that woman supporter at the SOO in QLD earlier this year. The more I google the more I find.

You can add me to that list.
And once again most on this forum head straight for the jugular before getting all the facts

And the facts are he plead guilty to the offence and received a 6 month good behaviour bond as reported on the channel 10 news. And Tigers supporters have every right to be disappointed in Payten's actions given how exemplary his record had been up to this point.

While it was a ridiculously stupid act, Toddy manned up, plead guilty and apologised to the RSL.

That said, he is not the first to do it, and he won't be the last.

Think it's time to move this one on. Todd is a respectable bloke, he made one mistake and has accepted responsibility for his actions.

What a disgraceful act! I dont care how drunk you are there is no excuse for this. I wish their was mandatory sentencing on this sort of behaviour.

First Lui and now Payten, What else is yet to come out from that fateful night after the Warriors game?

i know Toddy. Its not his go. I know a lot of past present Nrl players. Whatever he did does not change my opinion of him he is a great bloke. We all have pist somewhere strange… Your still a legend to me...

Showed remorse, accepted responsibility, apologized to relevant authority…done & dusted.

x2\. Appropriately handled by Todd.

X3, people make stupid mistakes, especially when drunk, as long as we don't see repeat offences…..

Glad he stepped up and took responsibility. I still like him and respect him, I am just disappointed that someone of his stature was reckless enough to take a slash on a monument to our fallen soldiers.

Funny how most people are saying he apologised and thats that…..Todd Carney apologised, people still want hi s head, if it was watmough people would want his head, if it was myles people would want his head....yet none of the above have ever pissed on a war memorial, atleast not that i know of.

& dont say cause they are repeat offenders, they havnt defiled a war memorial. Theres no excuse for this.

He sais he was so drunk that he didnt know where he was, i say bollocks. Ive been absolutely smashed before & i knew where i was and how to get home.

& he is going to be the NYC coach next year ? Imagen what the young ones will say, they wont show him any respect.

For me personally, its cya later todd payten

I haven't sinned all day so I'll have a go.

It's not a good look for someone you thought was pretty much up there as a mentor.

Still, I guess there are two positives:

1\. It wasn't a Nate Myles
2\. He doesn't play for us anymore.

Carney lead police on an unlicensed drunken car chase, and when cornered fled the scene, thats just one of his indiscretions. Watmough has beaten his partner and has numerous car charges against him, plus a pissing in public charge.

Myles, well….that story was actually pretty funny when he got stuck in the hall while looking for the crapper.

For a guy like Payten who is otherwise a solid guy with not allot of issues over his career, its not beyond forgiveness.

As for young kids not respecting him in NYC because of this? Way off base.
