Todd Payten pleads guilty to urinating on Hyde Park memorial

Have to agree with Ink, did the crime, manned up. His reaction was proportionate to his misdemeanor.

I hope none of you attacking Mr Payten defend a certain other tiger who is in the news for the wrong reasons. I also hope none of you ever swear at loved ones, show intolerance to others, abuse another person (physically, emotionally or mentally), loose your temper because of your own impatience etc…

Why is this thread even open? Is it because some of the administrators personal values dictate that this is so heinous that we shouldn't look away, or its it because there is no "conjecture" about the outcome. There is another thread that was barely being posted in that was closed out of the blue (refer to comment above, regarding another tiger), without only minimal recent heated debate or mudslinging. Odd if you ask me. If your allowed to talk nonsense in this thread about a court case involving one stranger why can't we talk nonsense in the a thread about a court case involving a different stranger.

Todd is the best person to coach the U/20s, for the simple reason that, just like all of the forum preachers who have shown me the light, they will make mistakes in life, and maybe he can teach them how to own up and accept responsibility.

edit: removed a potential inflammatory sentence which has more to do with my beliefs that are irrelevant to the issue at hand.

The difference Old Man Tiger is that one case is resolved, was resolved with Todd admitting to the facts and that this was not common knowledge prior to the court mention. The other matter is ongoing, is being defended and as such crosses the line in what can get a forum into trouble.

The last sentence makes sense, and is fair enough. In truth, I'm not a fan of free speech on the internet, but I'd extend it to threads like this where very little constructive info is going to come from peeved off fans.

Thanks for replying.

We have gone down that road in the past though and what we found was that by restricting people on seemingly trivial topics it also lowered the overall rate of contribution to the forum as a whole.

The admin guys are always willing to tweak things if required so I am sure they will note your opinion on this

I think people are dissapointed because Todd is so admired and respected, it's a bit of a shock really.

I guess we need to remember that he played prop in hundreds of games of rugby league, that's an awful lot of blows to the head! :stuck_out_tongue:

God knows ive whipped my old feller out in some weird and wonderful places! As far as im concerned, when you have to go…. U go!!!

People who deface or defile a war memorial are low mongrels. Public floggings are too good for them. However Todd's obvious contrition and previous record means he should get a second chance. I would think he's learned a valuable lesson.

We're in the 21st century not the 18th.

Are you Big Brother or a member of the Thought Police working for the Ministry of Truth ?

Ironically it's free speech that allows people to say they don't like free speech.

Mate, learn some respect… Its a War Memorial!!!

You know, a memorial to celebrate galantry of our past heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice to allow us all to live the free lives we do.

How bout I take a leak on you and see if anyone cares?!

:deadhorse:

Not a good look, but who hasn't pee'd on a wall while out on the drink… The situation of the War Memorial is a little dissapointing, and while I find it totally unacceptable, I feel Todd understands he has done wrong.

My 9yr old boy and my partners son who is 8yrs had an altercation last year over a local memorial. The 8yr old was riding his skateboard on the memorial and my boy told him to get off. The 8yr old just laughed so my boy walked up and dragged him off the memorial and stuck his head into the turf while telling him "this is a place to remember Australia's soldiers who have died".

I am a very happy Dad knowing how much such things mean to my boy!

Sounds like a good kid you have there, Watto.

I'm in 2 minds about this event … If it wasn't on a War Memorial it probably wouldn't cause me any conflict at all ... but because it is, it has really disappointed me. But seeing as Todd's manned up, apologised, not tried to blame anyone else, etc, etc, I guess I will put it down to a mistake learnt from. I reckon none of us are as embarrassed or disappointed with Todd as he himself must be.

Some people actually have a bit of pride and respect for what the Australian military has done for this country. You're in no position to dictate how people should feel and act in regards to this.

From Payten's mouth:

In a statement released by the Wests Tigers last night, Payten said he wanted to make amends for his ''terrible mistake''. "I am incredibly sorry for what I did and I apologise unreservedly to all Diggers and their families both past and present. I'd also like to apologise to my family, friends and the general public.
>
''I have also offered my direct apologies to the Returned Services League and will be making a personal donation of my time and money to assist with the wonderful work they do.''

Payten has at least recognised his mistake and apologised unreservedly. His attitude and respect is clearly better than some on here.
