Tony Sukkar #292

The fact he played 60 mins was a big reason why we lost. He contributed nothing, we don't need Bench forwards who offer 6m hit ups and poor defence.

Maybe in 2-3 years he might be ready for first grade but that he's in our top 30 currently is embarrassing and an indictment on our clubs recruitment and retention in recent years.

He's struggled in NSW cup. You wouldn't know he's out there, a handful of slow soft hit ups, slow play the ball, no defence. Sure he tries, but that's a given for all players, trying doesn't earn someone a spot in first grade. I'd have Porter ahead of him and that's saying something.

We simply must sign a second rower immediately.

We're effectively playing this season with a squad of 22

I know there's this belief on the board that Sukkar is a barely functional human, let alone a potential 1st grade footballer.

But it seems remarkable to call out a guy who play 60 minutes in pretty much his 1st outing of note, against one of the competition heavy weights, for only offering "6m per hit up" (it was nearly 8m, but semantics) when there is ONLY praise for the efforts of Jack Bird who ACTUALLY only offered 6m per hit up (12 runs, 72m).

Added to that you have Sione Fainu with 2 ineffective tackles, Bird with 5 missed tackles, Royce Hunt with just 5 tackles all the time he was on the field (and 4 runs..) all the while Sukkar misses 1 tackle & completes 22.

Think what you like- but it seems an unreasonable comment based off his first real run out in 1st grade.

Agree with you. Sukkar is a year away from what we need but thought he gave it a red hot crack playing in two positions too. Not at all the reason we lost.

I compared Sukkar to Brendan Piakura ex Keebra Park, Aust Schoolboys and came through with the reputation as one of the next big name Broncos. Sukkar more than held his own and I hope it is the start of a long and illustrious career at WTs. I view him as a building block upon which our next team is to be built.

I’m with you on this one… he has a VERY long way to go … but if people are critical of his game playing one of the best packs in the comp, and considering his experience levels then they are pretty tough judges …

Couldn’t agree more

Thanks for that.

This is where I feel we let ourselves down. Sukkar is the next man up, but they have him playing on the side that he will never get a chance at with Fainu there. We need to start identifying where these guys could get opportunities and make sure they are spending time in that role in Cup. I'm not saying develop him exclusively as a right side player, but he should be spending some decent time there to put pressure on Seyfarth
As a depth player he could play grade on either side really. He should be being introduced to both sides of the paddock including some time in the middle if he is to be our next man up. Same with Kit, I’d love to see him work on some Dummy halves skills as well as spend time at lock as well as prop.

That is a massive wrap to give anyone.I was extremely impressed with his effort and attitude on the weekend and certainly hope that he continues on in that vein.

Sorry, but he looked out of his depth to me.
Hoping for hard running/impact forward...but not what I saw
the type of forward we need is Willensten from the Broncos
You mean....like Royce Hunt? Or Sione Fainu?

In the off season we were falling over ourselves trying to add Kobe Hetherington....a solid defensive player.

Can't Sukkar be compared to him instead?

Royce definitely fills that gap,for all of the 15 minutes hes on the field.Ridiculous
But we also need an edge backrower like Kikau or Holoume as well
And play Royce for longer minutes!!

Puzzling why they don't use Roycey more is Benji seeing he is struggling and needs to come off, he looked to have trimmed his weight down during the off season and the talk was to increase his minutes.

I thought Royce provided huge impact when he was on in his few runs & aggression in defence. Benji should have brought him on when Willison came on IMO.

he is playing a bit more than last year ..
But they didn’t use him much more than normal against the Warriors when they had injuries and with May playing 80 and Pole 70, so they mustn’t think Hunt is up to any more
