Toovey or Cleary

Cleary, but I want to see Taylor succeed as my first preference.

Absolutely, I don't want to see this club perpetually paying out coaches.

CB,once we get into the habit of letting the coach fulfill his tenure, wether it be 2 years or 5 years or whatever his contract is for,the better our club will look from a business point of view…at the very least we will show that we can let the coach do his job and not continually criticise and ridicule him at every given opportunity...and for the last few years thats exactly what other people see that happens at our club..

I know what the point is to this thread but…..

Don't see why it has to be either or. I prefer neither.

I prefer JT to both the afor mentioned nominees myself.

I think we will see what JT has to offer in 2016 and most of the players as well.

Go JT and those Mighty Tigers

Without getting too far ahead of ourselves and speaking hypothetically only, if for some reason we decided to rissole JT the situation is probably not as dire as it would have been in years past as there are a couple of capable coaches in the Centrelink queue at the moment.

However in saying that, you keep axing coaches before their tenure is up (and yes I am aware Potter wasn't axed rather than not renewed,) no coach worth their salt will come near the place as there in no trust in the coach to get the job done in the time allotted (i.e. their contract period.) The club takes that risk when they sign a coach up, if there's pressure to get results first year up why sign them to a longer term contract?

I think they are both decent coaches with decent records.

Cleary has consistently got teams ahead of where most predict, but on the downside hasnt really won anything.

Toovey has won a comp and had the Sea eagles right at the top, but the question mark on him is that he had such a good squad that most blokes on the forum could have got his team into the semies.

Exactly, but lets face it,bad start to the season ,which is more likely than not, its hard to see JT making it thru to Sept.

The club has backed themselves into a corner. They've made a commitment to sign JT for three years, he deserves to see them out. IMO if you sign a dud coach you should be forced to honour your bad investment.

You can't go to the casino and ask for your money back after committing to a bad gamble.

I confess that I have little faith in Taylor but I think this thread is uncalled for at this stage.

Our squad being what it is we will have to play inventive football every single week. We won't win by grinding and hoping for soft tries (we tried that the last few years and it was horrible). So if Taylor has them playing with his predictable one-out stuff with the bomb then I will hope he gets replaced. But if he has them playing expansive football I will support him - even if we lose.

All I expect from the coach is to have each player and ultimately the team playing to its full potential which is obviously affected by the playing roster the coach has at his disposal. The coaching role is for Taylor's to lose and if the results in 2016 dictate that a new coach is required then Cleary would be the most likely to get the job above any current available coaching candidates.

I have no problem in the club getting rid of Taylor if we are in the bottom 4 again this year because clearly when he was hired I doubt that a result like that two years in a row, would not be considered acceptable under the terms of which he was employed.
I hope he has a great year - but to retain him should we fail again would be more detrimental to the club than getting rid of him - even if we have to pay out the last year of his contract. We may not attract a Hasler Bellamy or Bennett, but I also cant see us attracting or strengthening our squad with quality players if Taylor remains under those circumstances.
We need to keep the players we want, and buy some others that we need - if the team fails again under Taylor this year - cant see any other option but to part ways.
