Joey Manu is a deadset superstar high quality player - sign him

He's doing the rounds to give Nick the time to organise his new Jacuzzi apartment, teeth etc. I believe he will be a Rooster for his career.

I think his teeth are already OK, so I can only imagine how good the jacuzzi is going to be.

Agree - or at least until they don't want him.

Not keen on DWZ- just don’t see him as the type of player we need. I would prefer to have Isaako over him. I’d take Tupou from Roosters any day if he’s available however they never let the good ones go.

IMHO, we shall either select young players or established star players. I this case, from the 2nd group I would go for Tupou, or at worst Morris bros.

By established I mean competently playing NRL in a reputable team. And by solid I actually mean in career best (or close to) form, and displaying attributes and skills that almost independently lift their team i.e. a potential/recognised superstar, or at least a universally recognised very high quality player.

Haha sorry I find this paragraph pretty funny. By solid you actually mean potential or recognised superstar, or at least UNIVERSALLY recognised as very high quality?

OK but I would propose to you that isn't remotely what the word "solid" implies.

So no Tigers don't make a habit of signing superstars, we never really have, and Nicho Hynes, if that is indeed your example, isn't a superstar or universally recognised. Bloke dead set has played about 5 excellent matches, 7 pretty good matches, 10 moderate off-bench matches in a medium-duration but limited on-field career.

I also don't agree with your interpretation of what established is - playing well in a good team? For how long? 1 match? 20 matches? Arguably under your definition, guys like Joe Stimson, Sandor Earl, Albert Vete, Cheyse Blair, Young Tonumaipea, Mo Blair, Ben Hampton etc. were established at Melbourne, because they played alright and the team overall was doing well. And where are they now?

Hence my recognition that it was a bad choice of words, I was being modest.

No need to make a habit of signing superstars, but it would be nice to sign a player of that calibre to continue building the team at this point in time – and we’ve undeniably missed quite a few opportunities in recent history, whether that be our fault or not, or whether that worked out better or worse for us – it isn’t my point, which was only to recognise that we do tend to miss out on what appear to be good opportunities, and in place (barring developing/junior players) sign players who were once highly regarded or considered stars but are a shadow of their former selves. There are too many to name and we all know who they are. But DWZ would be the latest addition to that list!

Nicho Hynes is a potential superstar – are there many who would disagree with that? I’m not sure anyone would disagree that he’d be a high quality signing either.
Established is hard to quantify, in this context I’m sure there would be many interpretations as to what EXACT definition this fits. How about performing well for their team recently, say year to date – half a season or so? This is only half of the criteria I mentioned however, and those players you mention, I can’t say whether they’d have qualified for the other half at the time (being a very good player in their own right). But I’m pretty sure Sandor Earl didn’t, for one.

So Ready's mail on Triple M was saying the Dog has given DWZ official permission to Talk to Tigers but sounds like there is a hold up regarding dollars... Sounds to me the Tigers are doing what they have been doing for 18 months now and not over paying and standing ground. I think it is more of a case if DWZ wants to come to secure a longer deal he needs to take pay cut. Pick him up for the right price its a Yes from me.

It would need to be a massive pay cut because if the figure he is supposedly on (approx 800k) is correct he is getting 500k too much

I think hynes has talent, but I do believe he won’t be as good for the sharks. I would say the sharks Will regret paying the600k. He looks better than he is because of the players around him. I wouldn’t say he’s a game breaker but a solid player who hopefully will improve in a good team.

DWZ’S PAY PACKET WAY OUT OF TIGER’S LEAGUE
From Hooper

The Wests Tigers have confirmed an interest in Bulldogs back Dallin Watene-Zelezniak but the stumbling block is the $880,000 he’s on next year.

As good a player as DWZ is, Canterbury-Bankstown’s previous decision-makers have been completely done over on that deal.

If the Tigers can strike a price where they’re tipping in around the $400,000 mark, there’s a good chance the Kiwi Test captain will unite with the Kiwi Test coach in Michael Maguire.

If not, Canterbury-Bankstown will need to continue to stump up to make DWZ the highest-paid winger in the NRL.

880K. Hahaha, I say leave him to fester at the dogs and take them out of the play for any future signings they may be looking at.

Surely the dogs have to run into cap pressure with the two highest paid wingers in the nrl, excluding Holmes of course.

$400,000? You have to be joking. I wouldn't take him at all and that is a reflection on Maguire. I thought we had past dumb signings? It seems we aren't!

I’m usually open minded to signing players, but I want no part of this guy. I hope whatever we pay for him isn’t coming out of Packer’s money. I’d be ropable if it did.

Not sure why people think 400k is soo much money.

The cap is $10m - Thats an average of 333k across all 30 players. But given your 5 base paid kids are prob 150k ave max then its 370k ave for the top 25 players. That means anyone even a winger who is in your top 13 are on at least 400k.

It has to do with the dud signing. A dud is a dud no matter the cost. And buying three top rated juniors for the price seems a far better investment and consistent with our long term strategy. I cannot believe we're even considering signing him.

Seems every weaker team has their very own Moses mbye/hunt/lodge etc...lets not get shafted with someone elses as weve had more than our fair share(Packer,Reynolds)

If we don't pay too much I'm okay with it. We are desperate for some quality wingers. When this guy is on he is a gun. His problem is way too many mistakes.
