LIVE GAME Trial 2 vs. Dragons

Live Game Discussion
Once again, despite a reasonable number of visits to the opposition red zone we lacked the flair to finish. This has been at least a three year issue and nothing indicates it’s been rectified.
Another disjointed pre season ! The usual Tigers year.
March - August - disappointment at another failed season
October - January - anticipation over signings , another new coach and a better way forward.
February - Two very mediocre trials.
March - August ?????

I think most don't expect instant success, but most expect progress. There were zero signs of that last night *** insert disclaimer about it being a trial and not meaning anything here*** Thats why people are disappointed. I'm not losing my head, as you say it won't happen overnight but as a supporter I don't understand how you couldn't be be at least a little disappointed with what was served up last night and the manner in which they were absolutely dominated ***insert another disclaimer about it being a trial.
I think everyone’s thought our team is better than it actually is. We still don’t have a proper 13 & I hope Benji abandons the Seyfarth 13 experiment by round 2, he just got manhandled out there yesterday & if we’re just gonna use our lock as a 3rd prop Twal or Pole are much better suited to that role.

Our halves still aren’t that great… Sezer in reality has spent the 4 years not looking good in the Super League & he’s really there just to provide a bit of experience & leadership for the young lads. A lot of people questioned why we signed Luai last night is a clear example of why. Bud has a bit of promise but his defending was shocking last night. I still think with his attacking flair he deserves a spot in the 17 & Galvin looks like he’s gonna be a really special talent.

And to our most obvious issue… our outside backs. I said all pre season we probably have the weakest backline in the comp & I think the last 2 weeks have proved that. There are some serious problems there but it’s not something Richo can change overnight so we’re kind of stuck this season in that regard. If fit i’d be starting Olam & Faataape in the centres because To’a time & time again has shown he’s not defensively capable.

I think by the end of the season Richo will overhaul our coaching staff. We cannot have 3 coaches learning on the go which is what we have with Benji, Robbie & Heighno. I think Robbie & Heighno personally shouldn’t be anywhere near the coaching staff & changes will be made by the end of the year.

LT, I agree with your comment on the bounce of the ball.
The bomb we put up that bounced off our chest and went straight into the arms of the saints player . . they score in that set. A bounce 2m away, we might have scored. I think thats when we topped it off with the kickout on the full. I don't think any team has won a game after they've kicked out on the full from a re-start.
The next saints try had it's fair share of luck and bounces go their way. Nek minnit, it's 16-0 . . . and we don't have what it takes to come back from that. They've had all the possession for the last 10 minutes, we're Fxxxd from "defending", it's now 22-0, and that's the game.
Don't get me wrong, we were woeful for the most part . . . but they got kissed on the bum by a fairy at the start, we chimed in with our effing shitness, and that's the story of why we rocked ourselves to sleep last night.
"God help us !" ---- "It's only a trial" . . . take your pick.
Rite now, for me it seems like there is no alternative but to go with "God help us".

The flaws are obvious on paper compared to just about every other team in the competition. Miracles don't happen in an off season for a wooden spoon side, on the back of a pretty ordinary recruitment drive. We will need some luck to improve our position in the competition no matter who we play.

The red zone was the most disappointing thing for me aswell. Sullivan's footwork and short kicking the exception. They can't get Paplii into a gap.

It wasn't the getting rid of him with Api coming, it was the keeping Simpkin instead of him that was mentally irregular.
I remember the positivity attached to Simpkin when he was 1st mentioned and later signed by Wests.
He was talked about as being something rooly triffick, as was our recently departed back to Penriff [can't think of his name] fullback.

Hey mate you forgot to mention John Morris a touted assistant NRL coach... If we rely on Benji an NRL rookie coach,Farah a boys club member and Hieno a player of reasonable repute then we are stuffed...we needed a Flano,Bennett,Belamy type coach to stabilise and recruit a competative NRL side,ATM we are going with some experience and a heap of youth..I love a rebuild but after 12 years it becomes monotonous and we need a solid team, coach and admin...hopefully this is just a niggle on the way to greatness,I wont hold my breath....

Not wrong Tyg. That 9 minute ram-raid down our
right was the most concerning part. I think they
flooded bud with traffic knowing how he defends,
you add lightweight To'a & Staines next to him, it
was a bit of a disaster. My only concern is that edge.
I mentioned earlier i don't think those 2 can play
together on the same side. Not convinced Lobb is
the answer as he's a bit slow to turn, Bateman will
sure that side up though, I'm not stressing (just yet)
Not sure Bateman will come back on the right (i know he was there last year)? If so why have Papalii trialing on the right and not the left where he would likely be playing

What has Simpkin got to do with the end result ?
By the time he come on we were getting flogged.
He didn’t miss a tackle, he got out of dummy half and got our forwards on the front foot, we looked better in attack while he was on the field and won on the scoreboard while he was on the field.

Hal why is it we have a ledgend player in the coaches box that made a name for himself as a scoring demon and yet we can never convert field position into points...Its not that hard to get on the front foot in the red zone and absolutely test out the defense...all we do is play until we run out of tackles, kick poorly and give possession back to the opposition over and over again with absolutely no reward for our packs great work getting us there...
Thank God I didnt become a coach...I would have killed half the blokes I coached and ended up watching the game from behind bars...
I have met a lot of forum members and can see how passionate they are about this team and club, they give their all to support the team and club,YET GET VERY LITTLE BACK,,,

Saints took all their players off when he came on. He was playing a reserve grade team. You are right...he was ok against reserve graders so he lived up to his standard. State Cup hall of famer.

Because TT, the best players don’t always make the best coaches. Benji probably did it spontaneously and has real issues explaining that, hence his need to show them at training. Some will dig it but others wont.
Because all the coaches go through the same qualifying process they all tend to work the same way( at least in the beginning ),however, with experience and nous they stretch the coaching manual.
I think Benji might be coaching more by the book, at this stage.

Dragon's best players were ex-Tigers. I know Richo said we're not rebuilding, but I watched a 2019 game against Eels recently. Twal is the only player left from that team. I don't want to single out Twaly but he stands out like a billboard showing dog's balls when you're chasing an explanation about the club's cultural development strategy. The one solitary try he scored? Well, think about it? 😂 We can't continue to blame Brooks for our impotence in the red zone.
