Tuimoala Lolohea Signs with WT

Does anyone know where we're up to with Lolohea? I hope the ball's rolling…..

David Long from the herald has a story today about the warriors not wanting to release him until the end of the year. Also says player is worried that the 5 clubs interested now will not be so keen at the end of the year.

Doesn't sound very promising with nothing imminent. Disappointing. it seems like we're driving into dead ends regarding fullbacks. Trouble is, we're chasing players who are under contract for next year. This is where we should tie down Hoppa. He can cover a range of positions and can move to centre or wing if we manage, by some miracle, to snag a fullback with more ball playing skill or game breaking ability. Come on Ivan!

No doubting Hoppas playing ability but im sure everyone is concerned about his playing arrangements.

If the bloke says he will play Sundays im sure Cleary would consider him
I know i will

I rather Tui over Dugan any day
I know people are batting for Mitchell and some for Edwards on this forum but IMO Tui will offer a bit more than both
IMO he has a better tackle bust ability due to his physique

What's wrong with both we need backup.

imo Hoppa is not the answer - he is not a good full back.

Did you read my comment properly Russell? I said sign Hoppa for his versatility. He can play centre but if we don't get a gun fullback, he can play fullback until we do!

I made a similar point in another thread recently so apologies for sounding like a broken reckon but i honestly think signing tui will be counter productive.

Players who played all their junior footy and then debuted at the warriors never really develope further than what they offer in their first few years. Obviously theres a few exceptions but for the most part they peak very early.

They get branded as superstars over here very prematurely and as soon they show signs of being stale they are on the out and the next "superstar" comes through.

When they shift on to other clubs they dont tend to offer much improvement and i think lolohea is a player that will not improve on his current game.

I like the idea of nofa at fullback (although i have never seen him play there, i understand he played there as a junior tho) and bringing over a solid centre/winger like milne. I like the talk of klokstad too, would prefer to have him on the wing than fullback though.

Everyone has opinions and i certainly respect you guys and yours, but I think Hopoate is an absolute joke of a fullback. I just dont see what others see. He never fills me with confidence and his positional play is very poor. Could do way better with that money I reckon.

I have not been Hopoate's greatest fan over the years, but to say he is not a good fullback is wrong. He switched there last year and was in such form that Freddy said he'd have him over Tedesco for NSW. Now as Tigers supporters we all know that his opinion was wrong, Tedesco was, and is better. However, the point is made that Hoppa was going very well at 1 for the dogs. He was solid, skillfull and reliable.

Fast forward to his comeback match this weekend and we all see a guy who fits what we need to a tee. His hands were sublime, his lines were perfect, his work rate was first class. He ran 300 metres for God's sake. Set tries up at will.

The guy is not as good as Tedesco, but the guy is good.

If he plays Sundays and we sign him i'll be estactic.

Agree with everything you said Sirro. Hoppa was awesome on the weekend however I would love us to get Latrell Mitchell for FB (outstanding player)….Hoppa would be decent in the centres also.

Can't argue with any of that, Hoppa made some great runs bringing the ball back at pace, solid in defence too.

Guess I disagree with both of you that he is a good FB (i.e. King Sirro and Chipofftheoldblock).

If we are building a team to win the comp then I think we can do a lot better than Hoppa.
I think we could buy a better winger than him ( a few years ago he played SOO on the wing and was less than SOO standard) and I think there are better centres if we look hard enough. Maybe he will play on Sundays and maybe he won't.

Not sold on Mitchell either as I think, as someone said earlier or in anther thread he is a train wreck waiting to happen. I agree.

Hopefully we can sign Tuimoala Lolohea for next year (believe the Warriors won't release him earlier) - he can also play across the back line and would be a good replacement for Teddy.

I think Taane Milne would be a good player to get as well for a centre spot - that would give us Milne, Suli and Idris and if Idris does not extend we would have a capable replacement.

These guys would not cost a fortune and when someone comes on the market we can have a grab for them and have some good depth up our sleeve.

Everyone has different ideas and in the end it will be Cleary's call - hasn't done a bad job so far, so I still have my trust in him.

I'm with you brah….

I have never been a big fan of Hoppa, but to be fair i have never really watched and taken an interest in his play, yesterday however he was impressive, but if i was signing players i would not be signing players who have self imposed restrictions on themselves.

No way we should sign Hoppa. He doesn't play on Sundays remember? We have had a lot of Sunday arvo games this year. He'd be best playing for the Broncos- guaranteed Thurs or Fri night game during prime time every week.

Lolohea would be stupod not to go too us. we give him the fullback rolem cronulla raiders and souths will give him the utility role off the bench.
