Tukimihia Simpkins signs, Kane Bradley released

@Rowdy12 said in [Tukimihia Simpkins signs said:
like the signing however a bit concerned that he didnt get any game time with the cows last year. they were well out of finals contention early and had a stack of injuries. the fact that they still didnt give him a run says he cant have been rated too highly

they do have a messed up cap though. Lolo and Morgan are both on $1mil+ then guys like McGuire, Holmes, McLean, Granville, Feldt, Hess and ONeil were all signed/resigned as Rep PLayers/recent Priemership winners and none have gotten near their pay packet. they also gave Esan an upgraded deal when they took him from us

Honestly is pretty rare to see 18 year old forwards debut these days

This kid will struggle to go 7 mins in the NRL at this stage of his development.
I don't expect to see him for 3 yrs

I think you’ll be surprised. Will definitely play first grade this year.

How much money have you got to lose?

Hahahaha give me an embarrassing profile pic like DaBoss said and I’ll go with it if he doesn’t play this year.

Like someone said recently in another thread, almost every NRL contracted forward in the modern game (especially backrowers) can play 80 minutes if they were required to in emergency situations.

Just think with the lack of strong depth in the position he’ll definitely get a run.

@walter said in [Tukimihia Simpkins signs said:
My problem is why would the cowboys let a young backrower go When there forwards are average besides Taumalolo

It sounds like we signed him for the following years , and they got Bradley as compensation, otherwise they get nothing

If he doesn't play a game this year, my profile image for next season will be a shirtless mitch moses

You are welcome to do that BUT only on the pawwa forum definately not here

Yeah @TheDaBoss why punish us like that mate? If you're going to make him shirtless in the pic, how about headless also?

So you are happy to look at his body all year, as long as you can't see his face?

Lol, well no. I didn't think of that, I just didn't want to see his face. Maybe without a head, some of the people who like looking at male bodies can pretend its not him, and can enjoy it.

I havnt heard of him, has he played much first grade?

Hartigan is really going chips in on guys who impressed at school boy level isn’t he.

What do you want him to do ? Sign B plus to C average guys , and continue treading water like we have for 10 years ? Which is exactly what we’ve been doing . And I dont want to hear we only ever sign plodders , because if that were true , we’d come last every year . We sign average players who give average performance for an average result in 9th.
We need guys who could be superstars , and many have signed with us now .
This Simpkins has been on the youth radar for a very long time . The fact NQ lost him is a huge blow . From what I’d read last year he was considered to be the one they were going to build thier pack around for the future . Looks like that will be us now .
This is the recruitment advantage we have . Not in established first graders , but kids who want to become the next big thing . Especially forwards .

Even as far back as Souths , people forget Sutton was a below average number 6 before Madge got there. Most forwards went up a gear underneath him . And at the tigers it’s been no exception . People see that , if the results on the field haven’t matched some individual personal improvements.

You can’t fault the recruitment. Hopefully all this potential uncovers a few hidden gems

I'm finding it hard to gauge recruitment, too many unknowns to fairly judge.

There is a clear strategy. I just think it’s a forced strategy rather than a chosen one because of our constant misses on established talent. Time will tell whether it’s hit or miss.

It is. We can't sign elite players in the prime. At least not without offering massive overs. So instead we're doing what the Storm does and are targeting the best 18-19 year olds and build a premiership team from within. It's more sustainable and allows for a balanced squad but in the short term it can take longer for the talent to establish themselves.

The Dogs on the other hand are going for the quick fix with big money contracts to as many big name players they can get their hands on. A couple of injuries or players out of form and they're done. Similar to the Titans of recent years.

I can’t compare us to the Storm. They have always had 3-5 genuine stars and a solid squad to bring their young ones along. They come in, they win and they want to stay. Can see us stumbling and bumbling along with this strategy until we land a couple of genuine established NRL proven game changers.

They have had a couple of genuine stars at all times yes. But that's because they've signed them all at 18-19. Smith, Cronk, Slater, Pap, B Smith, Munster, NAS, Grant etc. It's a conveyor belt system.

hopefully thes youngsters combined with the likes of Brooks, Mbye, Tamou, the Leiluas can get us to a position to finish in the 8 and make it easier to nab the occasional star too.

Not true, they were handed a gift wrapped side full of proven stars in 98 and won the GF in 1999. They had salary cap advantages from day dot then went on to cheat the cap to secure additional playing talent. We are nothing like them.

3 years! You’re out of your mind.

I’ll flip it on you and say I’d be happy to bet whatever you’d like that he’ll debut within 3 years!

All stars they developed within or picked up prior to being totally proven

Not true. e.g. Lazarus, Kimmorley, Finucane, Matt Geyer, half the Perth Reds etc

Not really,i think its value for money mostly.JO and Tamou solid with experience,JTJ very cheap and worth the risk for low$.Steff and TUK the future.I expect we will nail another big signing or two for 2022.For this year theres not much around and we hope to get a Laurie release.Hartigan has obviously been working very hard behind the scenes, and i expect more to come.

Read through the squad mate, not much proven NRL talent. This year could be really ordinary. I hope we do jag a couple to add some experience, along with a few of these ‘potential’ guys cutting the mustard.

I am a fan of this strategy over the previous one - signing former rep players past their prime - but fear it won’t work unless we add in some quality NRL players to bring them along. I really hope we nail these last 3 spots in the squad. We have money and cap space, I see no excuses now.

Big kid. Hope he fills the hype.

**We seem to be building a BIG pack at the same time that the NRL rule changes seem to favour smaller guys?**

It'll be handy for the team in terms of field position and PCM, given their endurance/stamina are up to NRL level ofcourse.
Any ideas who our strength and conditioning coach is?

I think we have more than one, but Andrew Gray is one of them

Thanks @Speed2burn.

Believe the another one is named in the James Roberts thread and pictured with him below.

Agree with both BAG and STRON.The future lies in the recruitment, and we have done well considering the market,.Future players in development and lower grades, like Kei,Tuvlagi,Tannous have great potential (i expect many posts say most don't make it) and looking at the training squad and Palmers saying we have plenty of forwards,it looks very good.Saying that with both Tamou and JO, signings Hartigan realises we need both experience and young talent. We are in good hands.

The key for the Tigers this season is there will
be a reserve grade comp so fingers crossed .. all this youthful talent sitting on the sideline will be a disaster for the club ! The teams that did well last season were already set up and ready to go .

Wonder what Ronnie Palmer is doing now? Is he still at the club do you know?

He played prop in the one game he played in under 20s last year. Maybe he's a middle player?

We're not going to have to worry about small players in the middle this year.
