Big kid. Hope he fills the hype.

We seem to be building a BIG pack at the same time that the NRL rule changes seem to favour smaller guys?

I think that’s a bit of a misconception with the new rules. Melbourne tore teams to shreds through the middle with NAS and Tino last year.

Not to mention what Klemmer and the Saifiti’s did to us both games.

Im more talking about the new rules for 2021. Will be even faster this year.

My problem is why would the cowboys let a young backrower go When there forwards are average besides Taumalolo

I would think we had signed him from 2022 so there wasn't much point keeping him for 2021 if they could get a player long term in a swap deal.

What I’m saying is if he was any good don’t you think the cowboys would have kept Him . besides Taumalolo there forwards are average

If Papenhuyzen was any good don't you think we would have kept him?
If Addo-Carr was any good don't you think we would have kept him?
If Koroibete was any good don't you think we would have kept him?
If Taupau was any good don't you think we would have kept him?

If Bradley was any good don't you think we would have kept him. Good luck to him, he came with high praise and hopefully we don't end up with egg on our face. When I last saw him play he was too light to play in the back-row.

By the same token I hope Simpkins lives up to the hype. If he is any good I imagine that he will get a run this year.

Also good to see Pascoe was not on holidays

Love me some good, unexpected news.

There was a lot of talk about this a while back, but seemed to look bad for us before it quietened down. I'll admit I don't know much about the kid, but based on the hype it sounds like some really good business.

We need to translate our beautiful off-field improvements onto the field now.

"A 6’4, 17-year-old back-rower, Simpkins was one of the top schoolboy rugby union prospects in New Zealand and attracted the interest of a number of Super Rugby franchises before ultimately opting to sign for the Cowboys."

I don’t think the cowboys had much of a choice, the deal offered though probably not as big Stefanos, was probably more than the cowboys were willing to offer. I’d say all these young forwards were picking up have played against one another or heard of each other in the past few years and are keen to link up

Confusion will reign I’m telling you when Simpkin darts from dummy half and put Simpkins over for a TRY...

Good signing

That post is going to upset Russell.

Why so?

It happened during SOO and Liddle was in that squad. Lol

**We seem to be building a BIG pack at the same time that the NRL rule changes seem to favour smaller guys?**

It'll be handy for the team in terms of field position and PCM, given their endurance/stamina are up to NRL level ofcourse.
Any ideas who our strength and conditioning coach is?

I think we have more than one, but Andrew Gray is one of them

They probably didnt have many options, when you have 1 player on more than a million long term(Taumololo) it dosent leave a huge amount to spread around the other 29 players

I'm not knocking recruitment, but with this never ending obsession of the NRL in speeding up the game, I question why we are heading down the path of potentially the biggest pack we've ever had when clearly we haven't been able to keep up with the game speed thus far. These new big blokes must have very big motors.

*Edit, I see someone else has raised this point.

This kid will struggle to go 7 mins in the NRL at this stage of his development.
I don't expect to see him for 3 yrs

I think you’ll be surprised. Will definitely play first grade this year.

How much money have you got to lose?

like the signing however a bit concerned that he didnt get any game time with the cows last year. they were well out of finals contention early and had a stack of injuries. the fact that they still didnt give him a run says he cant have been rated too highly

they do have a messed up cap though. Lolo and Morgan are both on $1mil+ then guys like McGuire, Holmes, McLean, Granville, Feldt, Hess and ONeil were all signed/resigned as Rep PLayers/recent Priemership winners and none have gotten near their pay packet. they also gave Esan an upgraded deal when they took him from us

I think he may have been on a development contract.

Was only 18 last year. Big ask to throw a forward of that age into the NRL, they probably just wanted to let him develop doesn’t mean they didn’t rate him
