Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has provided the following update for Members and fans.

So Ivan Cleary came to me late yesterday [Monday] afternoon and informed me in a discussion that he had been approached by Penrith — that they were keen to get him to go out there and coach. We had a really open and frank discussion around that. Since then, we met with Ivan this morning and we were very adamant in that meeting that there is really no option other than to continue on as Head Coach of the Wests Tigers. Certainly, we engaged in a contract nearly 18 months ago now under good faith and we expect that contract uploads and continues on.

No. As we expressed to Ivan this morning, the position of the club — and it's a really strong position — is that the club is going to fight for this. Under no circumstances will we be granting Ivan Cleary a release. He has got a contract with this club until 2020, we're building something special here and we want that to continue.

Because we're not going to be pushed aside or bullied or railroaded by anyone. This club, and myself, have to make decisions that are in the best interests of the Wests Tigers and, first and foremost, our fans, our Members and our stakeholders. Giving our Head Coach to a rival club is not a decision that is in the best interest of the fans or stakeholders.

I'm really disappointed that they've had to go through all the speculation. I'm bitterly disappointed that a rival club has decided that it's appropriate practice to try and poach a coach with two-and-a-half years left on his contract. My message is very simple: Ivan has been a terrific coach, he has shown great character in what we're trying to build here and we are going to fight tooth and nail. This is a really strong, proud club with a lot of rich history and it's a very different club than what it was previously. We're not going to let anyone come in and just poach our Coach without a fight and we're going to fight tooth and nail to keep Ivan. We're not going to release him. The club is a really proud club, as I said, and we're in a strong position to fight this all the way.

needs to have Ivan Face the Press standing right next to Go,and Justin Pascoe and tell it to all fans exactly what he is doing , no sign of him means this will not go away
 
WESTS Tigers are playing hardball and have no intention of letting Ivan Cleary take up a four-year coaching deal with neighbouring NRL rivals Penrith.

“As we expressed to Ivan this morning, the position of the club — and it’s a really strong position — is that the club is going to fight for this. Under no circumstances will we be granting Ivan Cleary a release,” Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe said on Tuesday night.

“He has got a contract with this club until 2020, we’re building something special here and we want that to continue.”

The Tigers’ hardline stance comes amid reports Penrith have offered Cleary a lucrative four-year deal to return to the foot of the mountains to replace Anthony Griffin — less than three seasons after Cleary was unceremoniously sacked by the Panthers.

Penrith supremo Phil Gould’s plans for the club are uncertain, with the fifth-placed Panthers in for a fight to get their man after sacking Griffin a month out from the finals.

“We’re not going to be pushed aside or bullied or railroaded by anyone,” Pascoe said.

“This club, and myself, have to make decisions that are in the best interests of the Wests Tigers and, first and foremost, our fans, our members and our stakeholders.

“Giving our head coach to a rival club is not a decision that is in the best interest of the fans or stakeholders.”

Pascoe said he is disgusted by the Panthers’ poaching tactics, which may yet backfire if the Tigers wind up enticing Nathan Cleary to Concord to reunite with his father once the dust settles.

“I’m really disappointed that they’ve had to go through all the speculation,” Pascoe said of the Tigers’ fans’ ordeal. “I’m bitterly disappointed that a rival club has decided that it’s appropriate practice to try and poach a coach with two-and-a-half years left on his contract.

“My message is very simple: Ivan has been a terrific coach, he has shown great character in what we’re trying to build here and we are going to fight tooth and nail.

“This is a really strong, proud club with a lot of rich history and it’s a very different club than what it was previously.”
Pascoe joined the Wests Tigers from Penrith, claiming he had been “sacked” by the Panthers in 2015, and said he was surprised Cleary would entertain returning to the club that axed him.“Keep in mind too, that I was sacked by the same club in that same year,” Pascoe said. “Does it surprise me that he might want to go back there? Yes it does.

That’d be a bigger disaster than keeping a player that didn’t want to be there.
After a dispute like this one, it would be hard for any Coach to be as immersed in his job here as he would need to be.

Someone yesterday said, that we could make him coach reserve grade, but I’d be extremely surprised if his contract didn’t state that he was to coach First Grade,

It would be almost impossible to make someone Coach a first grade team, if they weren’t there mentally, you could be physically doing it, but mentally it would be near to impossible
Our best option if all this is true, is to get as much out of it as we can, and start looking for another Coach immediately ,
Forget all the belligerent posturing, and get on with sorting out the compensation.

If he asks for a release and it's turned down why can't he just be expected to get on with the job as a professional? To the players, staff and fans he can just say something along the lines of: they offered me a lot of money and the chance to coach my son and I wanted to take it but the club was entirely within its rights to refuse my request and now that they have I'm totally comitted to doing my job here. Some of the lustre is gone but it's not an untenable situation.
 
WESTS Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has hit back at the Penrith Panthers in a pointed video released on the club’s website on Tuesday night.

The former Panthers CEO and current Tigers boss said his club would not be bullied, and said they are in a strong position to fight for their head coach.

It has been revealed the Panthers approached Tigers coach Ivan Cleary a fortnight ago, and have since sacked their head coach Anthony Griffin to make a play for him.

The offer is believed to be a rich four-year deal, and would have the added benefit of allowing star halfback Nathan Cleary to remain at the Panthers to be coached by his father.

In response, Pascoe outlined the details of the situation and issued a fierce warning to the Panthers, warning the club is willing to fight ‘tooth and nail’ to hold their coach to his contract.

If he asks for a release and it's turned down why can't he just be expected to get on with the job as a professional? That is not how the world works.
Ivan will be bitter and resentful.
What is the point in keeping someone who doesn't want to be there, certainly not the head coach.

Oh yeah Like keeping Moses around really helped that problem!

NRL is officially a joke it is the only sport in the world where coaches players etc can sign contracts mid season end of season and sign contracts 2 years in advance. they are idiots the NRL for not actually having rules for this.

Contracts mean ZERO in NRL. $BW proved that years ago.
 
On the “sixth & last” podcast Noddy & Brock said that Ivan was livid that his name was being banded around as a replacement for Hook at Penrith

I hope this has traction and is reality

If I was Nathan, I'd be filthy at Penrith making this so public. They've set him up as another DCE.
