Utai

Well, last year, every time we scored, Beau was always there first. I always got the feeling that the Tigers played better with Beau Ryan than without.

It doesn't matter if it is proven wrong, because I still think Beau is the better player RIGHT now.

Beau cant even run RIGHT NOW…..Utai runs harder than most players in the club RIGHT NOW....but yeah pats on the back and saying "well done" after trys is important too :arrow_right:

he runs the balls fine, but I dont trust him at all in defence or under the high ball, one game this year he is gonna cost us a game, it was almost tonight with the lazyness to get to the ball and doesnt even contest for the ball in bombs which is very important in todays game

Utai was good, but as everyone I worry about his defence. If Ashyford has to go wing when defending, it's better to have a winger who can stay there..

Utai though runs harder than many of our players and gets more and more eager to have a run..hopefully that's a good sign.

May need to work on his fitness though.

I wish Tuiaki never got injured.
Imagine how amazing we'd look with Aysh and Lawry in the centres with Lote & Tui outside 'em.
I don't think Utai is amazing and would prefer a stronger winger outside Aysh… Tui would be perfect but can't live in the past forever.

Benji & Prince used to go to the wings in D….Ayshfords always there at the end of defensive sets.

Now I think about it....how often do you see a player score a try and no team mate congratulates him?

remember that 2004 semi final when Matt Sing just took everything away from Utai? imagine if Manu was on him tonight it would have been a different game indeed. the raiders game next week will be a test because they are going to target him the entire game down that side in attack and Orfords kicks

You're not Robinson Crusoe. I wish I could win Lotto.

Now thats a reason to be picked in first grade….....good at celebrating tries

How do you think Ben T'eo gets picked every week

Good game Matt Utai…..

He was making good meters out of our end most of the night which he has to as its a good feature of his game.

The Inu try was probably a few minutes he would prefer to have again. He needed to attack the ball there and back himself to catch the ball or at least bring a dangerous play to an end with a scrum from a knock-on.

Ayshford going back for kicks is not ideal but it can solve a problem which teams would target if Ayshford and the fullback are capable of dealing with the situation.

Positives
- some good hit ups and tackle busts
- happy to get in there when the forwards were tired and, unlike other wingers, actually makes some metres

Negatives
- yet another week where he's found out in defence. Where was he for that second Warriors try?
- unable to contest bombs or take kicks, hence Ayshford having to cover him

going off these i'd be more inclined to play Utai in the centres where he's less of a liability, or even in the forwards.
But a few good runs shouldn't obscure his deficiencies in defence and in this period of ample depth, it's time to replace him with someone like Brown, Latu or Ryan (when fit)

I think he really gets us going at the start of our sets. Very hard to put down and looks dangerous.

He really helped carry our forwards who at times went missing.

Agreed. I think our backs made more metres than our forwards last night. Made one poor decision but anyone could have made that error and he wasn't the only one who fouled up that directly led to the try.

Kul.
You say he's deficient in defence ( most players miss tackles weekly Al Schirnack was a costly one too) then go on to suggest him play in the centres, the most difficult position on the park to defend in????
Hard to fathom
