VALE Garry Leo

I jumped on the Balmain Tigers bandwagon in the very early sixties as a young boy and my memories mainly revolved around Barnes and our arc enemy St George. Than came along guys like Spook Spencer,Keith Outten, George Rubner, Bob Smithies and Gary Leo. Finally the holy grail in 1969.

Leo was one of the first front rowers who had a step. Prior to that 99% tucked the ball under the arm and plodded forward, but Gary had footwork at the line. Super nice guy who probably said a few things in recent years that did not need airing. Anyway RIP mate you were a champion on and off the field

I also have very fond memories of Gary Leo. Was a super hard working front rower - small - but you always got a 7.5/10 from him. He and Barry McTaggart were a very underrated front row. Great times sitting on the Leichhardt hill watching those guys go around.
