Watchful Tigers keen to snare Blair

Warrington Wolves
>
Adam Blair, who is off contract at the end of this season, has signed a 3 year contract to begin in 2012 with English Super League club Warrington Wolves. The current Challenge Cup holders fended off competition from Wigan and Leeds to get Blair's signature after missing out on St Helens' Tony Puletua.

To trust or not to trust??

CRONULLA coach Shane Flanagan last night admitted his club's attempt to retain Kade Snowden had become dramatically more important after it emerged fellow prop Luke Douglas had accepted an offer from the Gold Coast for next season.
While the Titans were celebrating another significant signing in the player market – they secured Canterbury centre Jamal Idris last week on a five-year deal -- the Sharks were reeling and already planning their next move.

Interestingly, it could involve the tit-for-tat pursuit of Titans forward Anthony Laffranchi, who is also off contract at the end of the season.

**Alternatively, the Sharks could look to Wests Tigers forward Bryce Gibbs, who is believed available as his club attempts to make room for Melbourne and New Zealand forward Adam Blair**.

The Sharks' priority, however, is NSW State of Origin prop Snowden.

Douglas's loss makes his retention important.

"He is a good player," Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan said of Douglas, who is from Yamba on NSW's far-north coast. "We made him an offer. He's made his decision to go back home We're disappointed. It just means the other bloke (Snowden) has become more important."

.
The Sharks could also renew their attempts to sign England captain James Graham, although he is believed to be on his way to Canterbury. It is understood St Helens has already begun scouring the NRL for props and Manly's Brent Kite has emerged as a potential target.

Incoming South Sydney coach Michael Maguire has made an immediate impact by approving the retention of five-eighth John Sutton until the end of 2014\. However, he faces a fight to keep halfback Chris Sandow beyond this season. Sandow is the subject of an offer from Parramatta.

Rabbitohs winger Nathan Merritt also inked a new deal but the most significant announcement came at Newcastle, where captain Kurt Gidley agreed to a deal which will see him finish his career at the club.

Well we only just extended Gibbs by 3 years, so that's BS.

Family in focus as Blair weighs playing options

FAMILY has played a big part in Adam Blair's life. The star Melbourne Storm forward, who is preparing to play for New Zealand against Australia tomorrow night, lost his father Willie to cancer in 1999\. From that time and even before as Willie lived out his final 12 months, the then young teenager - the eldest of eight children - became the man of the house, helping his parents with duties on the farm he grew up on, from driving his father around the property to changing the nappies of his younger siblings.
''We knew he only had a year to live so we tried to make the most of it with him, tried to do everything that we needed to do around the farm to help out,'' Blair said. ''I pretty much missed a while at school by just helping out and making sure that dad was doing what he wanted to do. It didn't really affect me but I just think it made me a stronger person I guess. It made me think about family more and stuff like that, it was just a big part of me life.''
That bond was again seen when, after securing a contract with the Storm and arriving in Melbourne, he brought his mother and siblings from New Zealand. Now, the 25-year-old's next major decision will involve his own young family. Blair is out of contract with the Storm at the end of the season and is widely expected to take up a big-money offer from a Sydney club, with the Wests Tigers the favourites.

A bit left of centre, but If Blair signs I wonder whether they will change the NRL All Stars team selection criteria. We will feature (depending if fit) Marshall (NZ c), Blair (NZ vc) and selected Tiger player (most likely Ellis before being ruled out prior to the game). Lui would have to be considered as well for the Indigenous team.

I'm pretty sure the vice captains were not part of the automatic selection last year. That only occured the first year.

But i'm not 100% sure

That could play a huge part the fact he would have to uproot his own family and other family members to Sydney . Maybe we are getting used to up the ante for him to get a better offer from Melbourne

I hazard a guess that would be the case HT.

If he was that keen he would have signed already. Probably asking for $600K since Sandow signed on for $400K a year with Parra.

I've always thought this,

If a player get offered a large contract and wants to move he usually does so quite quickly.

On the other hand if it's about raising the current teams price, the negotiations continue untill the incumbent team comes up with something that comes close to the inflated price. Yes, if the rumored price are correct, than it's inflated and seems out of charactor for us, so i'm not sure i believe it.

Is it just me, or does it feel like the club is truly building to something big. I think Blair is a quality signing if we get him. I am excited to see what the future brings in the next couple of years and I think a premiership is definitely not out of the question.

With Champion leaving Melbourne, they might have a bit more to offer him. Still hope we get him.
