Watchful Tigers keen to snare Blair

Gibbs is playing the best football of his career, but he is not as good as Blair. I'm sorry but that is the truth.

Woods and Fafita are younger and we must keep looking to the future.

With Dwyer stepping up in the last 18 months our backrow of Heighnington, Ellis and Dwyer is settled, no place for Fulton.

Look, I like both guys but I like winning more and that means making tough decisions.

What I am happy about is that it finally appears some tough decisions are being made by the club.

I reluctantly but totally agree with helmesy i do not want to cut fults gibbs and payten as they all offer a lot to the team but i would be even more upset to lose our good young players such as woods and fafita and if we get Blair as well it is worth it.This is the salary cap at work and as much as i dislike it and what it does it is necessary. We are paying the cost of having so much talent in the forwards

I realise that I'm being sentimental, but I would much rather keep Liam and Bryce and miss out on Adam Blair. I hope Bryce is signed until 2014 and that Liam stays as well. 'Veteran big men'?? How old do have to be to be a veteran?

heres a couple of links to show his end of 2014 signing.

Here thats were gibbs confirmed he signed http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/nrl-premiership/wests-tigers-prop-bryce-gibbs-looks-set-to-finish-career-with-club-after-signing-two-year-extension/story-fn2mcuj6-1226006550540

No doubt Gibbs is signed up for a while. Thats why the article states that they are free to talk to other clubs i.e. the club is prepared to let them go early.

The article seems to be too well-researched to be a fake e.g. the reference to Groat. Its also consistent with the rumours on here that the Sharks would make a play for Woods.

Smart bit of business by the club if true albeit ruthless.

No one doubts that Gibbs has a contract with the Tigers till 2014\. What the Tigers are (according to the rumours) saying is that if another club offers Gibbs a better contract than the one he is currently on the Tigers will release him from his current contract in order to free up space in their salary cap.

This will allow the club to retain and extend the contracts of its young gun forwards (Fifita, Woods, etc) and sign Adam Blair who is off contract at the Storm.

You beat me to it Southern!

As already stated in another thread if you asked me who I would be looking at releasing instead of Fulton or Gibbs would be Heighington if we sign Blair . Fulton gives us heaps of utility options off the bench . IE Hooker ,half back , five eight , lock or second rower . Gibbs is too important to lose for his defensive skills . Plus Heighington is probably worth more on the market than both Gibbs or Fulton . Don't get me wrong Heighington is a better player than both Fulton or Gibbs but football teams are about having a good balance and we don't need to be overloaded with second rowers and locks that play exactly the same way . And I also think you could even look at releasing Ellis depending on how he recovers from groin and ankle issues . Ellis would be worth more than the three of them . Again I don't think Fulton or Gibbs are better players than Ellis but the balance of the team is more important .

Well said and it would be sad to see any of the current squad leave.
It's about our future and I wouldn't like to see and good juniors leave either.
As "helmesy" said tough decisions have to be made.

I think a very smart move, decisions that need to be made in the best interests of the club unfortunately some players need to move on. Today in this game if you want to be successful you need to make the hard calls otherwise you end up losing talent that you should keep or signing players that will strengthen your squad.

IMO if the three move on it wont hurt us in fact it will make our forwards even stronger, no doubt that they are loyal tiger boys but that doesnt win you football games

Back On topic Guys.

Tele says that Roosters are making a play for Blair in light of the fack that they will see significant movement in their roster

Roosters

The feather duster is hovering over Anthony Minichiello, Mark Riddell and Phil Graham, along with Myles and Watts. T**heir departure would clear the decks for an 11th-hour bid for Blair, who is still to formally sign for Wests despite mail suggesting it's a done deal.**
Veteran prop Jason Ryles has a one-year option that's triggered by playing a certain amount of games, but don't expect coach Brian Smith to become embroiled in another Kirk Reynoldson stand-off. He and Ryles are extremely close.

If we missed out on Blair we could make a play at Myles

No Thanks HT

I'm not a fan of Myles at all, I think his next contract will be one where he will wind down.

Plus we need to avoid any more QLDrs, Lote and Lui are enough of a bad influence for me.

Harsh Brother very harsh But back on topic Prefer Blair over any other option but if that option is not available or gone we need a major signing from outside the club for next season . Still waiting on my mad Rooster mate for info on the Blair issue . He had not heard anything but will get back to me asap

He's only 25, what makes you think his form will wind down?

Myles is not worth the trouble.

Blair should be our new signing for 2012 and keep Fifita, Woods, Dwyer, Groat, BMM at all costs.

100%

Ps I thought Myles was older around 28….

Yeah lets release Gibbs & Fulton & we dont sign Blair it would be great, I am starting to think Blair is leading us a long a bit to get more dollars somewhere else. Gibbs & Fulton are hardly old @ 26 so that cant be the problem as they have plenty of gas left in them as footballers. Yes i know some of you will say let them go but this club runs on loyalty not just some of the money grabbers who go to some clubs.
