We Made the Finals

11 wins and 13 losses will not be calling it a success... 12/12 really isn't either, but if it's enough to jag a semis spot then considering the last few years I'd call that a success, somewhat

BINGO. a losing year is not a success. a 50/50 year is not a success. If we as a club want to be successful we should all aim higher.

given our circumstances, those being a new coach with a poor roster (on paper) that isn't his own, millions of dollars either on the sidelines or in reserve grade and all the things that have gone against us on and off the field, to still be somehow in the running for the playoffs with one round to go, I would label this year a success despite our win/loss record.

The year is a short term failure but long term success even with a loss Sunday. To compete whilst effectively trying to move Packer, ET, McQueen, Reynolds.Injuries to Matulino, Mbye, Fonua, Aloai, Farah. A new coach inheriting an average roster and the growth of Aloai, Matterson, Mikalele, Momirovski, Brooks, Marshall, Thompson, Nofa is a good outcome.

Backing up a second year of respectability will improve our fortunes in the player market as will the obvious good coaching of Madge.

Players will want to play for Madge but they also want to join good teams at a lower price than battling teams. Next time someone looks at the Tigers the thought has to be if I join the club we are a chance of getting to a GF.

Win lose or draw against the Sharks and I'm calling this season a success.
We are basically playing finals football this weekend (as are Cronulla).

**Even a draw would get us there on for an against (Sharks 7, Tigers 8, Broncos 9).
Maybe The Tigers and Sharks should agree to draw, just to knock the Broncos out.**

Seriously though, assuming the Tigers don't get smacked, I cant see how missing the finals means this season was a failure. Yes statistically we finish 9th, but Madge and the boys have put themselves into a position to play knockout football. I'll be treating it like a knockout final.

Not bad considering our squad list and the amount of cap on the sidelines or in reserves.

Now there’s a thought! Wouldn’t that be a blast watching the look on the Broncos players faces if that happened. They think they’re home and hosed already, but that result would be priceless 😂

You can't keep hanging on to games we should have won. Every team has those. Look at the Sharks. Would be sitting in the top 4 if they had a decent goal kicker.

It's not just that, it's the mistaken assumption that you can just change one parameter in one game and the rest of the season works out exactly the same, but with that 1 improvement locked in.

Like if we hold on in the Penrith and Melbourne games, everything else turns out the same and we aren't playing for our livelihood this weekend. Well, surely those results influence the next games, then the others. Maybe we don't come firing out of the blocks in the second Penrith match and concede that one instead.

And people lament close losses, but at least you are in the close ones. Better to have a season of close ones than floggings. Personally I am most upset about the Eels flogging, where we went from the high of pipping Broncos to getting our arse handed to us by a cocky arrogant Eels side, the worst possible outcome of all teams to lose to. That totally derailed our middle-season.

Obviously you don't remember the gentlemen's agreement between Balmain and Souths not to play the final as a support game to the Rugby final in1908.

You'd have to wonder what Packer is thinking when the boys run out Sunday.

Gee my toe hurts...?

Finishing 9th is not a success. It's not a failed season as we should have been bottom 2 on paper but not making the finals can never be considered a success. That's a loser mentality.

Considering the amount of hogwash that was said on the forum during the early part of the season about how bad we were, this year is a success. Win or lose on Sunday. A lot of people were convinced we were the worst side in the comp. Well we aren't. Far from it.

Not just earlier in the season, most of the year!!!

It has been a reasonable year, considering from where we started.

I wonder where we would have finished if Cleary had stayed?

Next Sunday will be like a final for us. If we win we have earned our place like any other team. If we don’t win it’s not success but it’s not failure either. It’s the same result as last year but still better because we have responded to Madge’s coaching and are playing for a finals spot. Shame it’s at the back end of the season but good to take into next year.

If we make the finals it will give us huge confidence for next season.
Already there is plenty of good energy, but this win would send a message that something is properly brewing here and we would probably be able to attract the kind of players that could take us to that next level.

If we look at this season from outside looking in...we have been a very successful team and season..many will say we have to make the finals to be a success ...I disagree because I can see that we have had key players sidelined with injuries,we have chopped and changed players in positions not familiar to them, coach has had to find solutions to positions with very little depth..
The top sides have good depth to cover players sidelined, they also have their spine nearly all year round without to much disruption..Storm,Roosters etc, thats why they are in the position they are.
Look for a moment what we have had to do to stay competitive...
Mbye.. fullback to centre..
Thompson ..wing to fullback..
Momo ..wing to centre..
Matto...backrow to lock..

just a few changes to say the least, now we have Benji to hooker then 5/8 Grub to hooker not to his preferred position...but everything is working for Madge to try and get us in the finals...

THIS YEAR HAS BEEN A VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR US...and they will play finals football because of good coaching and a committed attitude...

@TrueTiger
I get why you think that. But it’s just too early to call it “successful”. Overachieving for sure.

Consider Cronulla and their season’s woes (their injuries, their poor goal-kicking etc): they have plenty of excuses at the ready, but in no way should they ever call this a successful season should they finish 9th or 10th. Likewise for Newcastle.

If we win this week then this year can definitely be called successful, no matter what happens first week of finals. But let’s keep a bit of perspective and not jump the gun.

5 sleeps.

Just win this weekend boys.

This season gets a big fat F as far as I am concerned. Failed to make the finals yet again.
