We Need A Centre

I don't reckon Fonua would be coming back for less than a starting spot…

And I recall that Fonua has been used as a winger in attack then switches to centre in defence. But I'm not sure why... if it is a reflection of his abilities or the abilities of those playing alongside him?

Either way that could be an option for Ivan, providing his partner on that side is also capable of doing the switch.

When I first saw the title of this thread for some reason I thought it was about a Centre of Excellence. Now that is something WT really needs.

That is in the works ive seen the plans it will be at concord oval looks good probably 2 or so years off

Yeah okay. Good luck with that…

Management should say to uncle Harry…build us a centre of excellence and you can put 50 apartments above it

Ive noted next year that we lack a well established experianced centre, even though Marsters has been doing a great job he is a fill in and should be our 13 next year IMO. Suli is still raw and should have one spot so that leaves Milnne who is a fringe 1st grader at this stage & Fresh Prince who reads defence & defends like Helen Keller at times, but i think we need to make a play for Josh Morris, he is on the table & would be a great fit as he is great defender and we need that out wide, plus he has big game experiance and would really show Suli and co the way forward.

Glad your not the recruitment officer or the coach.

Marsters at lock?
Morris (Well past his use by date) in the centre?

Suppose you play Taylor in ISP, Eisenhuth in ISP ….?

Marsters is a backrower champ and has been playing centre to fill the void this yr. Id have Taylor, McQueen in 2nd Row, Marsters at lock and Eisenhuth off the bench. As for Morris he defends better than anyone we have and he is 29.

He may well move back into the forwards, but it'll be as an edge backrower, not as a middle (i.e. lock).

Josh Morris has two shot knees and not what we need mate. I'll take Milne over him.

People have forgotten how good Fonua was at centre for the Storm. He would be very strong in the centres with Suli and a great example for him,

If Fonua can play centre, I'd be happy for MWZ to stay on the wing. If he keeps playing like he did last night against the Warriors he'll be hard to drop.

He'll be on the left wing, we'll have 2 mini tanks with he and Nofo carting it up.

Yeah Marsters doesn't have the defensive game for a 13\. Edge backrower and backup centre.

My 2 bob.
Starting back 5
1\. LoLo
2\. Nofo
3\. Fonua
4\. Suli
5\. Milne.

Thats how would have my back 5 as well ..

followed with:

6\. Reynolds
7\. Brooks
8\. Matulino
9\. Taylor © what's a hooker these days .. a forward who can pass the ball, tackle, and run the ball
10\. Packer
11\. McQueen
12\. Aloiai
13\. Eisenhuth

14\. Marsters
15\. Twal
16\. Grant
17\. Rochow

18\. Marshall
19\. Sue
20\. Lawrence; Gamble; Thompson; Naiqama; Watene-Zelezniak, MciLwrick; Liddle

Only possible change to starting side, MWZ on the wing for Milne.

That's my starting 17 and top 26 players for next season.

It's a good point.
The question being, have we reversed the culture enough so that their are no players with current entitlements? All the guys in the top 30 would be fighting hard not be to shifted to the lower grades. But have we done enough to the attitudes of these players to be part of and truly embrace having 2 strong teams?
That is the success of the strong teams right there, having the buy in from each and every player whether they a putting their boots on for Firsts or Seconds.

Sorry wrong he is a Papalli, McGuire, Taulamolo mould we have McQueen, Taylor, Lawrence to be on the edge. Big strong backrowers like him play 13 its a fact

Papalii plays on an edge genius…and Marsters is not a lock.

Part of the reason Marsters was moved into the centres in ISP from Round 2 was his defence in the backrow was an issue..even at NYC level he defended 2 in a lot of the time….

His attack tackle breaking ability as well as putting his winger in space is an asset at centre...he needs to work hard on his lateral defence but I think the whole team needs that ...

They could have asked him to build that, a leagues club and a lot more apartments. Either Harry knew the risks of dealing with a basket weaving council, or he was not prepared to grease the palms of certain people to get the opportunity

Yep. Big strong players like McGuire and Taumalolo play lock. Marsters is nothing like these players. He wouldn't be playing in the centres if he was a modern-day-lock/3rd-prop.

I'd like to see the Hooth remain at lock.

Each to their own, but I think he would get absolutely trampled by someone like Taumalolo. Maybe you're right and he'll be playing lock next year. I'd be willing to bet not. We'll see.
