Of the current players available to play, I'd give captaincy to Reynolds, but his hanging the leg out on Graham puts him in the naughty corner. If it wasn't for that incident, he communicates with the refs quite a bit.
So, I'd then pick Aloiai. I reckon he's got it in him to be a leader for the future. I'd say Grant, but we don't know what his future is after this year.

Seriously? Reynolds? He'd be the last one I'd choose. When are people going to see past his "energizer bunny" antics and realise he is a very, very ordinary player?

Being captain ain’t always about how good you play on the field. There’s a lot of things that are more important for a captain

Hear hear. If Mbye and Reynolds were any good the dogs wouldn’t have shopped them. They are both very average players.

Reynolds is a leader and a motivator. He may not be the best player, but his other attributes have the ability to lift a team. Mbye basically runs out of the tunnel first and that's about it.

Yeah there’s plenty of reason he could be a good captain. I’ve always liked the captain being in the spine, I see Doueihi as a future captain and I think madge does too

I really rate AD (seems energetic and resilient) and think hes way further ahead at fullback than Mitchell (seems like a sook, a thug and will go missing when the chips are down) atm. Give him a year to cement that fullback spot, then prepare him for captaincy.

Changing who has the C next to their name literally won’t change anything. Everyone will still talk just as much as they do now. More important things to worry about

Disagree mate. An effective captain can have a massive impact. The greatest captain of all time is living proof down at the Storm. He is a leader, not like our church mouse.

(C)s pick themselves usually... Coaches shouldn't have to decide

I've no problem with MM as (C) that's not where our problems lie

two reasons it won't be changed:
- lack of options: brooks, not cutting it as a player or a leader, benji/lawrence in and out of side. We literally have no leaders.
- he was maguire's first major decision when he became coach- it would be a big ego hit for him to accept his first major decision was a flop a year in.

If Cameron Smith wasn’t captain he would be just as good and talk just as much and do everything he already does.

Putting the C next to someone’s name doesn’t change how they are or what they do. You give it to someone who’s already a leader and a talker which the team benefits from regardless of who’s captain

Mate, he might seem motivational to you, but the best attribute of being a leader, in my opinion, is to lead by example through superior skill levels, courage, reliability, and consistently high standards. You should be THE BEST or among the elite members of your team. Reynolds is not that person.

You’ll find a lot of captains aren’t the ‘best’ player at their club and can still be great captains. It’s all about work attitude/ethic not how good you look playing.

Tamou isn’t the best at Penrith, cordner isn’t the best at roosters or for NSW, Croker isn’t the best at Canberra but they’re hard workers. Mannah captained eels for years when he was average but he was a leader.

Also all depends on what the coach thinks a captain should be

I know where your coming from but again I disagree. If Smith isn’t capt the refs tell him to piss off, his influence is solely restricted to playing and talking to team mates not pressuring refs for favourable outcomes

What position does he play as captain. Can’t see him as long term fullback.

We need
- A Captain
- A no7
- A no1
- A kicker

Anybody with speed, where have all the quick men gone in this game?

We have no attacking threats, none of our outside backs can stand up their opponent and burn them with footwork and speed.
We've got no threat out the back either so that puts more pressure on our outside backs because the defence doesn't have to worry about it

Replace Reynolds with Madden and we can even put 7 on his back if it means that much to you😊

As much as I agree with the majority here on Mbye's poor on field performances - he does have many of the qualities a club requires as "the face" and representative. He is well spoken, intelligent, and has an honest and straight forward style with the media, he is likeable and seems genuine when speaking, he is clean and a good role model etc., reasonably experienced and SOO player etc. I can see why he was chosen originally.
I think if Benji had a few years more he would be the clear cut choice, or Lawrence is an option but in the same boat. Down the track you might look at AD or Grant if he stayed, but for now there are few others who have the character or experience required.

I like him at fullback and he will only get better. He honestly has the safest hands in the NRL some of his pickups are crazy. He’s got decent ball skills too, just wish he was a little faster but close to the line he’s hard to stop

We have plenty of threat out the back... Nofa, Leilua and Talau all been good for us. Adding a real quick winger on the left and moving Talau to centre would be amazing though. Dunno what you do with Mbye
