Of the current players available to play, I'd give captaincy to Reynolds, but his hanging the leg out on Graham puts him in the naughty corner. If it wasn't for that incident, he communicates with the refs quite a bit.
So, I'd then pick Aloiai. I reckon he's got it in him to be a leader for the future. I'd say Grant, but we don't know what his future is after this year.

Seriously? Reynolds? He'd be the last one I'd choose. When are people going to see past his "energizer bunny" antics and realise he is a very, very ordinary player?

Being captain ain’t always about how good you play on the field. There’s a lot of things that are more important for a captain

Reynolds is a leader and a motivator. He may not be the best player, but his other attributes have the ability to lift a team. Mbye basically runs out of the tunnel first and that's about it.

Yeah there’s plenty of reason he could be a good captain. I’ve always liked the captain being in the spine, I see Doueihi as a future captain and I think madge does too

What position does he play as captain. Can’t see him as long term fullback.

I like him at fullback and he will only get better. He honestly has the safest hands in the NRL some of his pickups are crazy. He’s got decent ball skills too, just wish he was a little faster but close to the line he’s hard to stop

Some people have been bagging him out since he joined. He’s been one of our best all year.

He’s not done much wrong at all.... first good fullback we’ve had in ages and he’s only 21!

As much as I agree with the majority here on Mbye's poor on field performances - he does have many of the qualities a club requires as "the face" and representative. He is well spoken, intelligent, and has an honest and straight forward style with the media, he is likeable and seems genuine when speaking, he is clean and a good role model etc., reasonably experienced and SOO player etc. I can see why he was chosen originally.
I think if Benji had a few years more he would be the clear cut choice, or Lawrence is an option but in the same boat. Down the track you might look at AD or Grant if he stayed, but for now there are few others who have the character or experience required.

I think, in our case, we need two joint captains. One to direct and inspire on the field and one to handle the media side of things. In our case Mbye is only good at only one of the two and it is clearly not inspiration. Benji for on field captain.

We need
- A Captain
- A no7
- A no1
- A kicker

Anybody with speed, where have all the quick men gone in this game?

We have no attacking threats, none of our outside backs can stand up their opponent and burn them with footwork and speed.
We've got no threat out the back either so that puts more pressure on our outside backs because the defence doesn't have to worry about it

We have plenty of threat out the back... Nofa, Leilua and Talau all been good for us. Adding a real quick winger on the left and moving Talau to centre would be amazing though. Dunno what you do with Mbye

I have named these two players on the forum before and been written off by many as usual. In this era of bash and barge rugby league there is a lack of players with pure speed, awesome footwork and good ball skills. Ilikena Vudogo & Terry Wapi although have not had a taste of NRL have these attributes and what we like to call X - Factor. I know you are going to say there nobody's and never heard of them the same way I suggested a few years back Jamayne Isaako and Brent Naden. Anyway do some research and check out highlights on Ilikena Vudogo & Terry Wapi and make your opinion on whether you think these two are worthy or not.

If he was a regular it is easily Marshall but otherwise give it to Brooks. It'll force him to take control.

Brooks is not captain material.

I hear you on that completely but figure it could be the vote of confidence he needs.

I agree with Geo, I’d give it to Doueihi.

Yes me too, that guy has something! I like the way he conducts himself, both on and off the field, he reads games well and he’s not afraid to speak up.

I honestly don't care who the captain is. It was Aaron Woods for many years and look how that turned out.

About the same as Mbye for me, next to useless as a Captain.

Mybe reminds me of the guy who turns up to an interview and absolutely nails. Says all the right things and answers all the questions well. Gets everyone excited at the prospect of having them onboard.

Trouble is they are good at picking the important phrases and sound bites but have absolutely no idea what they mean or how to actually do what they say.

As a leader a total failure.

In other words a clone of Jason Taylor

He is YES man, does all the right things off the field however not a great leader on the field. With the $950k he is on i don't think they had any choice but to give him the captaincy. Nothing will change this season and we won't make the 8 after last nights dismal effort, we are a club that has been poorly managed with player contracts these past few years.
On a positive note i think Madge will fix the roster for next year as it's his last contracted year and seeing some recent signing he intends sticking around.

AD shouldn't be getting bagged at all. He's the most consistent player we have in the backline. Plenty of other losers that need to have a good hard look at themselves before AD.

Sometimes and other times no, reason being you sometimes have to justify to the playing group that the highest paid player is captain which he is at $950k.
Problem is there harder to drop 7 rounds back and the last 2 weeks i thought he started turning a corner but between him and brooks there were woeful last night.
As stated nothing will change and as long as a (C) on his back won't get dropped.

Not the players job to worry about who’s getting paid what. Madge hasn’t played Reynolds or packer for a good while and they’re also on big money.

Players do worry and compare pay packets its the same for most work places when it comes to Sales staff / Admin / Others.
Reynolds has been playing the last few weeks and replaced Benji prior to that he was not making the team against a stalwart.
Packer has been out last season and this with foot injury but as soon as recovered was named off the bench then suspended.
Coaches also pick players for certain matches i think based upon whom they want to off load hopefully to another club if on a long term contract....

Thought i'd bump this. Anybody who saw the Raiders v Storm game last night saw the influence a decent captain can have. Nice play by Smith just before halftime with the line dropout. As a supporter, extremely frustrating, but got the desired result.
