We need another Gareth Ellis

We need a far better player than Ellis.

What ?
He was a top notch player

Do you guys think players of higher skill will come play for the tigers ever ?

i cant see someone like Thurston playing for us even after his retirement

Some guys wont even give us a look, there isnt much good happening at our club to lure classy players.

Even if someone wanted to come here we couldnt afford them as we are far much content signing reserve graders and fringe players

On the topic of players who might consider coming to the Tigers and who could be good for us….
It seems we are going from 4-5 potential Hookers down to possibly none that are ready for NRL (Halatau will retire, Farah maybe going, Cherrington as well, Ballin won't cut it and Liddle not ready) - so I understand Kurt Baptiste from the Raiders is off contract this season. Now around 25yrs old, he is tough and a real competitor, has speed and skills, originally played at half and 5/8 for Aust Schoolboys and has done so for the Raiders. I like his spirit and desire - he is the type of player we need to develop a winning culture.

He's going well there (especially last night) but it's hard to get a real gauge on him because of how Stuart is using him. He's often sharing the field with Hodgson and there is some cycling of dummy half responsibilities. Not sure how he'd go with longer minutes and sole hooking responsibility.

i swear i thought he looked like he was in his 30s

Back on topic,
I was actually going to start another thread about this.
The man we need is Aiden Guerra.
I couldn't properly watch all of the roosters game against us but watching the highlights I noticed he replaced Boyd Cordner in the side.
His positioning, hole running and support play was directly responsible for about 3 of their tries against us the other day.
In 2013/14 with SBW in the side Guerra played as lock, with Williams playing on the right out wide.
Last year and this year his made a first of the right side second row replacing the role SBW once had.
That was the first time I've seen him play on the left.
But boy! Backing up from origin playing 80 minutes and create havok on the edge.
I noticed when they interviewed him on Channel nine at half time they asked him if they if he feels threatened by the tigers, mind you we scored plenty close to the end of that half to make a game of it.
He just said 'nah, were right, just keep plugging away kick for field positioning and grind it out we've got this'
I was impressed. Smart and confident.
I could go on with more detail how he could play and benefit our side.
But in summary an origin backrower that plays both edges well and in tight too, in his prime, is humble and confident.
Split up Robbies money between him and ET and please make it happen!

I still have admiration for second rower the True Footy Bad Boy John Elias - probably amongst the biggest crooks ever to put on a pair of rugby boots. But he could do the job.

You're kidding. Elias was garbage and always will be.

That was outside the field, on field he impressed me more than most forwards - he was an enforcer (unfortunately off the field as well). He even played with stomach cancer as not to interfere with his rep honours - he had true guts even if there was a cancer in them. My poor memory of him rates him better defensively than Woodsy.

Rep honours?

From his wiki page: Elias was the inaugural captain of the Lebanese rugby league team when they made their debut in the 1997 World Sevens tournament, going on to reach the quarter-finals.[9] He later travelled to France to play for Avignon and Toulouse.[10] Elias was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 1999 at age 38, but postponed chemotherapy to play an international match for Lebanon against France. Later he underwent surgery to remove a tennis-ball sized lymphoma which had burst inside his stomach, forcing him into retirement.

That was his first decent game of the season. Prior to that he stood out as one of the reasons they were running second last. Missed tackles, dropped balls. He is hardly a workaholic.

Good player. He will have a blinder every now and then. Not as consistent as Wade Graham. Ethan Lowe is off contract.

Any thoughts about Ryan James from the Titan, high work rate and huge to boot.

out of our price range, maybe a year or two he would have been perfect

but, if we do manage to snare him i'd be stoked. we should probably look more at good bench players looking for a hole punching starting role

new facilities should make us more appealing in the long term

Yeah he'd be great but we're not going to be getting him. He's not off contract until 2018 anyway when, If he keeps his current form up, a big club will come knocking with bags full of money.
