Disappointing performance against the Mariners today. It really seems like the wheels are falling off at this stage. I'd be surprised if we do any real damage in the finals. The Roar is a must win game for us next weekend.

Well beating the clear cut top side would be a good way to get your season back on track

Pity it won't happen

Not very confident at all. At this stage I think we're more likely to go out in the first round of finals than win the championship. Our league form is woeful, starting from January 1, we've played 13 games and we've taken just 15 points, which includes 3 wins over Perth (4 wins, 3 draws and 6 losses to be exact).

Disappointing performance in yesterday's 2-1 loss to Kawasaki Frontale. We got the led and that let it slip. The boys just don't have the same consistency and spirit as last season.

The A-League is going to have to increase the salary cap to keep great Australian talent here and attract decent overseas talent. Until then we'll be also-rans in the ACL.

I'm pretty sure all 3 teams are still in contention to qualify out of their groups. They've all been rotating their squads fairly well and all are still in contention in the A-League too. I think they're doing quite well.

I guess getting a draw with the competition leaders is a good result, but it was another frustrating game. We created the chances but we just couldn't put the Roar away. The atmosphere at the game, and the celebration of Shinji's time at the club was sublime though.

It's come down to the last round of the season and 6 teams can finish anywhere from 2nd to 7th.

The Wanderers have Melbourne Heart which is probably one of the easier matches on paper but there hasn't been any won in that manner.

A dead set nail-biter to get second place last night. I was watching it at Wests Leagues just before the league game and boy was I nervous. I thought Shinji's penalty miss and the subsequent goal against us was the end of out top 2 dreams.

A great finish by the boys. Ante Covic kept us in this one. Easy choice for man of the match. We now get a home final and at the very least gives ourselves a half spot for Asian Champions League qualifying for next season.

A great 2-0 win tonight over Ulsan Hyundai has cemented our spot in the next leg of the Asian Champions League. Awesome result.

The boys have a weeks rest until the last match of the group phase of the ACL and will then play the final a few days later.

This is the best I've felt about our prospects in a few months. That was undoubtedly our best performance since the start of the season (maybe ever). We are top of the group and we are at home on match day 6, where a win will see us through, and Renhe are already out of contention, and a lot needs to go wrong for us to miss out altogether. A round of 16 tie with CC is looking very possible at this point, which is great for the A-League.

Yeah and that staring team was without the likes of Ono, Mooy, Tyson, Hersi, Juric and Polenz. Golec and Mullen look really assured at the back. I'm pretty sure only Mullen is signed for next season, hopefully they look at Golec too. I feel D'Apuzzo doesn't add enough. Heffernan has looked stronger but isn't favoured.

A draw guarantees us through to the next round though with nothing to play for Renhe, I expect a weaker team with the main squad staying at home to worry about the domestic comp.

A round of 16 match against the Mariners would be very interesting. Hopefully a top crowd shows up. A spot guaranteed in the top 8 would be great for the A-League.

I almost had a heart attack when I saw Golec, Beauchamp, Spiranovic and Topor-Stanley all starting together along with Mullen and Cole (saw it dubbed operation park the bus on Facebook) and had no idea how Popa was going to use everyone, but it worked. I've never been a big fan of D'Apuzzo, and I don't get why Cole or Deano don' get more of a run at left back, although I thought Cole was very good up in a winger role last night.

With Shinji gone and strong rumors linking Mooy and Hersi away, I'd definitely look at adding Golec to the squad full time, along with Mullen, as well as an attacking midfield marquee to replace Shinji, but I guess the big question is who. I think Tim Cahill may be worth talking to.

Mullen is already signed. We signed Golgol too but he did his ACL so he'll be out for a while. I think they're expecting Spiranovic to move back to Europe or Asia, so they'll look to sign Golec then maybe?
Mooy is supposedly at Melbourne Heart/City and supposedly Hersi at Perth Glory. Polenz looks like he'll be moved on as well.
Cahill has been linked here a lot but I doubt it. He's still contracted to New York from memory and is one of the highest paid players over there.
The Melbourne Heart Dutch bloke who scored that bullet against us is rumored to maybe be a new marquee, Engelar (spelling?? haha).
Though I think the club will look to have another Asian overseas player as it allows us to use an extra marquee during the Asian Champions League which we look to have pretty much qualified too next year, or at the very least given ourselves a playoff chance.

We have an Asian Champions League match again tonight and the final on Saturday night against the Mariners. Two top games.

A 5-0 win means we finish top of the group. That's an awesome result after a shakey first game.

Are we the first A-League team to ever qualify top of the group? It was another strong performance against a pretty dreadful side, who had no real intention of winning the game, but putting 5 past them was great all the same. Potentially sets us up with a round of 16 showdown with Central Coast, depending on what happens tonight in Hiroshima. Melbourne went out on goal difference.

We may possibly be. Adelaide's run a few years ago is clearly the best ACL campaign. The interesting part will be what happens with player contracts and whether they're still allowed to play the further rounds.
