Wests Magpies NSW cup side 2012

I appreciate your plight… And IF the Maggies were the sole feeder team... It would lift thier profile somewhat...
But realisticly... How Much??
I don't hear Roosters fans banging on about Newtown.... I doubt the majority even know the Jets exist??
In simple terms there is only 1 outcome that will benefit Wests Tigers, And what your proposing isn't it!!
Keeping the Magpie brand alive isn't the Responsibility of Wests Tigers.... Keeping the Wests Tigers brand alive is!!

That you were…
I tend to agree that it may be improper to remove it... But as long as it is there, The division will continue...

I was being generous with the 1500 because i haven't been to a state cup game in years, but have watched them recently on Fox. I agree with much of what you say Batboy, but wish to add that the Magpie on the sleeve was an agreement for the merger to take place and I think it would be improper to remove it now.

However as I said earlier, I also agree that the current Tiger logo does not reflect Balmain, and I would have liked to see the Balmain Tiger somewhere on the jersey. Given that those negotiations were 11 years ago, I am over that now and don't expect anyone to change it anytime soon.

Why would they - more than likely they would have followed Easts not Newtown in the past - also Easts and Newtown are not a "joint venture". I'm not sure of your age batboy but you also mentioned in a previous post how nither Balmain nor Wests had anywhere near the success in the past 50 years that WT have had recently ( having 7 or 8 internationals doesn't guarantee success ) - you obviously don't have much of a clue about the history of the 2 clubs

I have plenty of knowledge of the history mate…
Success is measured on many levels.
We have a premiership, The highest television ratings, up there with the biggest match attendance,
In a better financial position than 3/4 of the Rival Clubs, a great squad (YES... with 8 Internationals) and a list as long as you like of future superstars coming through the ranks.
Exactly when was either club from the JV able to boast such credentials???

Everyone forgets that West's were goners when Balmain merged to save them. I am Balmain through and through but the Future has to be West Tigers.

If Wests want to find another NRL club to help keep their Magpie brand alive then good luck to them.

Neither would have survived Scorcher
People have to leave loyalties behind and look at 1 Future 1 Team and that team is the Wests Tigers

I'm not doubting WT success and i also believe the JV should be the one entity across all grades without Balmain or Wests. What i am saying is you just can't ignore over 180 yrs of combined history that led to the formation of WT and say who gives a rats we are WT now.

I can't see much use in Wests or Balmain supporters slugging it out. Certainly, it is important to acknowledge that both were important clubs in the growth of rugby league in this country. It is also important to acknowledge the many fine players who played for both clubs. I believe it is owed to those who gave their blood sweat and tears on and off the field for both clubs. It should also be acknowledged that some forward thinking people led to the formation of the Wests Tigers, credit to them imo for allowing both Balmain and Wests to keep their history alive but just as importantly allowing new rugby league live to begin for many of us who would have been disaffected by the loss of our team from top level competition.
I agree with you diedpretty about the need to recognise the contribution of all those who contributed in the past to Wests and Balmain and you are correct Happy we all have one future to follow with the mighty Wests Tigers, bring on 2012.

I'm not saying I don't give a rats about the past…
But i am far more concerned with the future propsperity of my football team...

I cant see why theses post are always started up by some ex magpie fans we no longer have our name which is balmain or our logo so why would you expect to have the magpie. We kept the tiger you got your traditonal name Wests so stop whining over it.Balmain made the criteria but the nrl were going to cut more teams supposebly so balmain thought it best to merge and it was the right decision and one a few other teams will be forced to do

But Magpies are WT aren't they? All are in this together. I want the Magpie Blazened on the sleeve of the WT jersey. Truth be known I would like the old Balmain tiger on the other sleeve too. I would love our strips to mirror the old jersey of both clubs (not just the heritage rounds), but understand the joint venture trying to support a new combined identity.

We can continue to celebrate both foundation clubs without having B grade teams running around in a lower grade competition that only a few attend to watch. I would rather our players taking the step up from State Cup to NRL having come from strong competitive teams rather than the results both independent clubs achieved last year.

Just having an easybeats team that runs around in the jersey each weekend in front of a crowd of 1500 people does not do justice to the long proud history of the club and what it stands for - does it?

Great post!

We need to move ahead TOGETHER, and remember our pasts TOGETHER.

I'm all for a dynamic and succesful WT's but I like the idea of the Balmain and Wests logo's featuring somewhere on the jersey.

As a magpie diehard i dont think the magpies going it alone in 2012 with nsw cup will be successful on and off the field as its so divisive to the wt club. I dont blame the club for wanting to keep the brand alive at senior level but to be this way is not ideal for both parties. Black and white diehards just want to be seen with in the joint venture more obvious then it seems within the majority of the nrl community. Let me summarise:
*i am a passionate wests tigers fan and member
*i enjoy having a succesful first grade team to follow
*i have wt rego plates, jerseys and bucketloads of wt merchandise and memorabila
*i go to every home game
*i follow wt because i was a born and bred magpie fan..
Diehards dont want to dissolve wt or fracture the club what we want is:
*keep the traditional wests brand alive
*magpie on sleeve to be prominent (like the idea of both balmain and wesa logos on each sleeve)
*ensure wt merchandise is not all black and gold
*find a solution for the nsw cup team by keeping the balmain and magpies alive in some way (shared jerseys perhaps)

The debate continues…

What I would like to see is 30 years into the future when all the diehards from both sides have died off and the sole debate is whats best for Wests Tigers.

Love your passion guys but some of you need to let go and embrace the now and future, some principles are worth fighting for….........and some of us did when we voted on the merger and the now which is the Wests Tigers.

NOT BALMAIN AND NOT WESTS.............those days are over for good...................

Merge the whole lot with the exception of SG Ball and Harold Matthews.

Rebrand Wests Campbelltown and Wests Ashfield to "Wests Tigers Campbelltown" and "Wests Tigers Ashfield". Close down the Balmain leagues clubs.

All revenue generated by Wests Tigers with the two leagues clubs as support.

Or change the move the whole operation to Campbelltown, Only have Black and White Jerseys, Get Mark the Magpie back, and Change the name to Western Suburbs Magpies!!
I mean, They supply all the Players and all the money anyway…..
:roll

Why move the whole operation to Campbelltown? Big corporates are based in Sydney so retaining the presence in Concord is very important for sponsorship.

Sorry Gary, I thought you were takig the p*ss with the previous post.
I hadn't thought as far into it as rebadging the leagues clubs,
But it's not a bad idea… It really would be awesome to have a "Wests Tigers" Leagues Club!!
I very much doubt it would happen.....

I find it no coincidence the two leagues clubs are very supportive of Wests Tigers in board room voting. Wests Tigers now have such a strong brand, the two leagues clubs know which brand will last the longest and provide the most financial benefit.

Never say never.

I agree with you… Mate, It's unfortunate for the old Black and Whites.....
But it is 110% correct. Too many seem to think that Wests Tigers is trying to take over the clubs in a plot to extinguish the Magpies.
How I see it, It's totally the other way round!! Have a look at the Wests Tigers brand, The Future and the professionalism in the way the club is run. From a sponsorship point of view...
WHO WOULDN'T WANNA GET ON BOARD!!
Until now, I have NEVER thought of the rebadging at club level... But I think it's genious!!
And if Balmain cannot survive, then at some point a decision HAS to be made....
NO MORE DEADWOOD!!
Wests Tigers FOREVER.....

Geez, I don't know where everyone's getting their info from, but you had me believing it all! I attended the Balmain awards night on Friday and have this to report -

1\. BRET will be competing in the State Cup next season.
2\. Paul Fletcher will be the coach.
3\. Leo will be the assistant coach.

Cheers.
