Wests Recruitment/Retention Failures

What a thread!
Failures??
It's a given that not every player will not be a star every game.
We had great anticipation even at the start of the joint venture that we'd spend our cap and become overnight sensations!
Good luck with that.
All we can do is expect professionalism starting at the front office, down the pathways and onto the playing fields with all teams doing their best.
I really consider that this enduring ride is taking new turns as we enter this new season.
Time will tell.

Maybe it was for golden point I can’t remember, yes he did fill in at fullback and wing at times but like I said earlier when he was with us you can see he didn’t shine because he’s not a standout, the players around him at Roosters, Storm and Panthers is what made him look good, but if we don’t make the 8 this year I can’t see Madge coaching us for 23 but unless after like 10 rounds we’re 2-10 or something like that I don’t think he’ll be sacked mid season
Trust me bro it was to tie the game

Paul bloody Momirovski has to be one of the biggest retention failures of Madge's tenure. Came to us from the 2018 Roosters premiership winning team, played a reliable brand of footy, was our goal kicker and really tightened up our defense out wide. Was swapped to the Storm for Harry Grant and won a premiership with them, in 2021 we traded him to the Panthers for Dane Laurie and he won another premiership with them before signing with the Roosters for this year.
Why is it that premiership contenders rate this bloke, and rate him heavily and we didn't know what to do with him? The centres have been an absolute joke since he left and still are, and to top it off we are so shallow, we even had to resign JTJ after we had already let him go as a dud. Way to go lads, so typically West Tigers that's why we have threads like this one.
Agreed. Momirovski is a very competent NRL player. He's a team player which most team's love to have because he knows his place and is on a modest salary. We should have let JL go to the Panthers but Cleary would most likely have none of it.

WT needed Laurie more than we needed Momorovski. He played a few decent games for us and for two other clubs instead of us and moved on long ago. WT supporters need to do the same.

Pascoe and Co have a lot to answer for.

JAC and TPJ should be in our colours this season.

Imaging the other players that they would be attracting
They probably would have attracted Matt Dufty and Paul Vaughan, same as they did for Canterbury for this season. Not superstars but I wouldn't mind either at WT for this season although Vaughan's best is certainly behind him.

Agreed, but why didn't they get him back. He wouldn't be expensive, he's professional, would tie down one backline spot, reliable, good defender and solid back up kicker. Plus we wouldn't find ourselves in the embarrassing predicament of being that desperate that we had to resign a player we had already let go for not being good enough to play 1st grade, as only the Tigers could.

Too early to say anything about Papa or Api... Remember we all supported the signing of Matulino, Packer, Reynolds and Mbye.

Matterson was probably one of the best signings we made recently.

Matulino was not a bad signing and does not deserve to be listed with the others
I know we got salary cap compensation because of early retirement but still doesn't change the fact that his on field output was minimal. But you're right, not in the category of Packer still

I never supported signing of Matulino, Packer, Reynolds and Mbye.
What I supported at that time was signing of JHW, Paasi, Taumalolo.

I always supported signing of Matterson and Momirovski.

Someone always defends him. Pretty sure his knees were stuffed when we signed him. A scenario we are masterful at repeating.

The club knew his knees were not great but signed him anyway. He was on many less dollars than Ivans other signings and when he could not play anymore he did not "milk" the club for money.
Most of our other signings over the years have squeezed us for every cent,to his credit Ben did not do that

The club signing someone with known knee issues is just another example of failures this thread aims to expose. Failure after failure after failure.
