So much for Marsters playing more games and I don't think tries has anything to do with the award really.

Just MHO but I would suggest minutes played would be a more reliable metric. That aside, he won the award so good luck to him. The fact we're discussing it means there were several in the running and that can only be a good thing for the future.

Thanks - point taken V of R. Another way of looking at it - as well as minutes played would be the amount of those minutes being involved in the game. Not many players are in the game as much as a DH.

The fact that some thought Liddle didnt play much this year shows that he really didnt stand out. Macca has the front running for 9 next year.

Liddle did stand out and MM played 1090 minutes compared to Liddle's 530

Liddle should be the starting hooker next year unless we sign Cameron Smith.

Just for fun, here is a comparison between Smith:
Liddles scores 0.23 tries per game
Smith scores 0.10 tries per game

Liddle makes 0.31 line breaks per game
Smith makes 0.05 line breaks per game

Liddle misses 2.15 tackles per game
Smith misses 2.25 tackles per game

Liddle makes 0.92 hit-ups per game
Smith makes 0.75 hit-ups per game

Liddle makes 0.92 tackles break per game
Smith makes 0.90 tackle breaks per game

That's probably a good example of why stats can be misleading. One is widely regarded as the GOAT and the other is a promising, unproven youngster trying to make his way onto first grade.

Just for the record, I hate Smith.

He did say it was for fun! I don't believe for one moment the poster is suggesting Liddle is in anyway in Smith's league.

Liddle honoured with Rookie of the Year Award

Jacob Liddle Rookie of the Year

Wests Tigers young gun hooker Jacob Liddle says he feels incredibly honoured and excited to be named the Club's Rookie of the Year after his first full season in the NRL.

Coming in to the season in fierce competition with Matt Ballin and Matt McIlwrick for time in the middle, Liddle relished the opportunities afforded to him throughout the year — featuring as the Club's starting hooker before picking up a season-ending shoulder injury.

With one surgery done and the other shoulder scheduled in for early next week (allowing him to return ready for season 2018), Liddle reflected on how season 2017 had been for him.

"It's been a massive year for me," he said.

"I wasn't expecting it coming in to this season — I was just wanting to get a big pre-season under my belt but the coaching staff gave me the opportunity and I've tried to embrace it.

"I'm really thankful for the opportunity they've given me.

"I couldn't have asked for anything more — I didn't expect to have the chance I have.

"The way Ivan is going with the Club is really exciting," he added.

"All the new signings and new faces coming in should be really good."
