Wests Tigers announce trial match squads

also surprised not to see luani with farah.. im guessing halatau is the back up hooker for us this year?

if brooks and fulton are injured.. wish them a speedy recovery.

bmm/ava/buchanan all deserve to be ahead of gavet but maybe potter wants to see gavet with the top squad. we have a massive depth in the forwards this year.. they will all have to push their weight this year.

hope there is not much to read re coaching preferences in the two teams named.

i dont think so…. saw luani training at hooker quite a lot, and none of dene in the videos. (i know it's only a snippet but still)

and i'd much prefer luani than halatau at hooker personally, he was quite good last year. although compared to masada that's not too hard

No real surprises other than Fine.
Penrith will be a good test for our boys, I rate them this season. Recruited very well and took some scalps last season even though they somehow lost to us at our weakest point.

possibly a bit off topic here, but im vacillating on penrith: im not a big jamie soward fan, and not overly sure about wallace either. also, jamal idris seems to have simply rested on his laurels while being with the tits….

initially in the ladder thread i picked them quite high, but then moved them to out of the 8; pretty much because of the 3 aforementioned.

there are two threads on this….

"confused, would we?" homer simpson

Perhaps BMM, Ava & Jack are being sent up to NT to play lots of minutes.

I would say this has a lot to do with it. Generally they would want most of their forwards to play lots of minutes and perhaps start. Their would be no point having 6 props in Sydney playing 15 minutes each when you could split them up and get 40 minutes each. I would say the top 6 have been picked and then they have split the bench in half to Sydney and Alice. Plus they needed to have some first graders go to Alice for promotional reasons

The Cronulla trial will tell a lot more.

Some NYC boys may get a run, or some of the other fringe guys and Wests RM guys.

It is a bit up in the air as we don't know how Potter likes to approach trials

The club said that only players picked for Camden would be considered for NZ9s

Pure speculation here, but from what I can tell (and I don't recognize half the names), they've picked a big squad for Alice Springs. Seems to me like there might be an element of fitness testing there, seeing which of the big blokes want to put in under hot, adverse conditions. Looking for attitude, and I'd say a big game from BMM there will have him right in the frame.

As for talk of poor attitude to training by BMM, I read that he only returned to training 2-3 weeks ago after he was injured at the World Cup. He ended last season showing some of the potential that he has, especially when given a starting spot. I'd say he is in the Alice Springs squad because he's a big bloke who needs some minutes under his belt to reach a decent level of fitness.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was left out of the 17 for the first NRL game but I really hope to see him rampaging into opposition packs as soon as he is fit enough.

Geez it shits me rumours of blokes poor training attitudes based on nothing but fantasy

Sue was injured in the WC…knock to the knee but they reckoned it was minor...wether thats still an issue who knows?

Calm down all , they are only trials and it won't matter which squad they are playing in as long as they perform they will press their claims for selection in Round 1

Not too concerned about BMM, Buchanan and Ava going to Alice Springs. I'm confident these blokes will see plenty of FG this year.

The squad to take on Penrith looks alright. A bit strange not seeing Benji's name there, but this is the start of the new era and I'm excited by some of the youngsters we have coming through.

I saw Brooks was doing contact training @ Kiama this week…I have a feeling he was not named so there wont be any media hype around him playing...watch for him to get some time..after all Potter announced Fulton is playing but wasn't listed..hmmm

Yeah I know we are all excited , but if a player isn't named there is no need to panic or not named in the squad you think they should its OK
