Wests Tigers have today confirmed that Robbie Farah has informed the Club of his decision to relinquish the Captaincy ahead of the 2016 season.

Farah has led Wests Tigers admirably during his time as Club Captain, taking on the role during the 2009 season.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe thanked Farah for all that he had done while captaining the Club.

“Robbie has been an exceptional Captain for Wests Tigers over the years and we thank him for the role he has played in leading this Club,“ said Pascoe.

“We understand the decision to relinquish the Captaincy was an incredibly difficult one for Robbie to make, but one that he has made with the best interests of this Club at heart.

“It’s now time for the next generation of leaders to stand up and steer this Club into the future,” he said.

Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor echoed Pascoe’s sentiments.

“During his time as Captain, Robbie has never taken a backward step and has always shown great passion in leading the team,” said Taylor.

“This decision would not have been an easy one for Robbie to make, but in doing so he’s allowing a new group of leaders to stand up.”

Farah said that leading the Wests Tigers had meant a lot to him.

“It is with some regret that I have relinquished my Captaincy of Wests Tigers,” said Farah. “I believe that it is not only in the best interests of the Club, but also in mine.

“It is a privileged position that I have always held in high regard but I now feel that a younger candidate should be handed the opportunity,” he said.

Wests Tigers started pre-season training on Monday.

Please give it to Chris Lawrence

I guess they'll go with co-©s...maybe more...to soften the blow and reduce any possible animosity between the former and new (C)

Likely Rowdy/Woods

I'd like to see Rowdy get the job stand alone….the best 'speaker' we have....question marks over his future beyond next season...

Woods most likely though ...Not my choice...

I've never really warmed to the co - captain thing but this is probably the way to go all things considered.

Rowdy has my vote. Surely if he continues his form in the back row next year we'll re-sign him. There's our captain for a few years to come.

I would choose Rowdy. Well spoken and a gentleman. He's also on the field a lot more than Woods.

Whether he is chosen might depend on whether they intend to keep him after this season. I hope they do (at a reduced payment).

Problem with Lawrence is that he tends to spend a fair amount of time out with injury. I find Woods still fairly young and too inexperienced IMO.

There really is no standout…..maybe Halatau if he is a permanent fixture of the side ???? Played really good footy for us this year as well.

Again.......The way the Tigers have handled this Farah situation though has been appalling. Again love him or not to treat one of our best 3 players of all time like this certainly does not breed any loyalty or respect.

Club really needs to have a good look at itself......as the fans may treat them in the same manner.

Rowdy would be a good choice. The other bloke who I think could do a decent job is Moses. He's too young at the moment but I like the way he carries himself on the field and he does plenty of talking. He could be a serious option in a couple of years if he continues to develop and improve IMO.

The fact Lawrence has been told he can look elsewhere says that they don't see him with a long term future at the club, which is a shame because he's everything you'd want in a captain. Halatau would be another good option, but he'll mostly finish up at the end of next season so its only a stop gap solution.

He's a little Thurston like in that regard. High talk, high emotion. Will take time to control that, but he is certainly a leader.

There is no merit in having Lawrence Captain for one year then he's gone at the end of 2016, if he's staying then he would be a good choice and think he carries himself professionally.

You guys might laugh but Tedesco would be my next choice….. as a Fullback he has an influence and can see what's going on from behind the defensive line, a very mature young kid.

Another steamy pile of BS from the club. This is the final stage of the powerplay from JT. They have forced Robbie to give up captaincy, fully knowing he won't be able to stop acting like a captain.

Robbie has captain NSW ffs, how can he just suddenly stop being the captain and let hugely inexperienced (as far as captaining a side goes) players make the calls?

This is setup for disaster so that the club can sack him mid-season. Robbie, please, just leave the club and be done with us. You deserve much better than this crap.

Was it by Knife or gunpoint that they forced him..

That's right he's the coach. How dare he call the shots.

No doubt he has a right to call the shots as a Coach .

Farah was given no option to give it up in a way as you need a good Relationship with the Coach…..so in that respect his done the right thing.
He wasn't held at Gunpoint Geo  but is aware the direction the Club is wanting to go and is fully aware that his not part of the plans.

Some people might laugh but I would also mount a case for Matt Ballin if he was our number 9\. Someone from a different culture (winning) who is a real respectable figure. I think it would be a breath of fresh air.

Halatau or Lawrence would be my other choices. Not a fan of giving it to Woods just yet, dont think he is ready. Plus we need someone who is going to be around the place all year. Woods will be pre occupied with Origin.
