Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence

In the grand scheme of things a slight delay to do the right thing by our first people is worth it.

It further confirms a club and council that wants to be an organisation that does the right things by its employees, fans and communities.

Its not a total "tools down".

Really looking forward to seeing the next phase pics soon.

No one trains on their home ground, it costs too much and the facilities are not up to scratch.

Doesn't it also tear up the home pitch if you have blokes going back and forward all week during training?

It would be like practice batting all week on the Test pitch, then complaining that there too many rough marks on Day 1.

Exactly, and thats what I meant by costs too much because many of these grounds now actually re-turf every year (some multiple times) and the the amount of maintenance required to keep the grounds to the incredible level that they are at week in week out.

On the weekend on Fox they showed the 89 GF. I couldnt watch but seeing it from afar (at the pub) it was noticable how bad the SFS looked with a massive bare patch in the middle. It doesnt happen these days, they play on bowling greens basically.

They have the "digging issue" in Europe all the time, because they have centuries of cities being built upon towns being built upon villages being built upon camp fires.

You get farmers finding lost settlements in paddocks; some bloke in England discovered the remains of King Richard III in a car park in Leicester. The Antonine Wall in Scotland, lesser known cousin of Hadrian's Wall, is basically bits of rock and the odd mound running through Scotland's Central Belt.

You can't dig anywhere in Edinburgh without uncovering some artifact or human remains.

Is this new "rock" Finding going to delay the building... By the sounds of it I have a feeling its going to be a big delay now due to them going to have the research the site etc... Fingers crossed this doesn't effect the build.

Mayor of Canada Bay Council spoke on stage this morning;

- Find has resulted in a 40 day stop work while further advice is sort
- Works won't be stopped/Delayed on the COE as the findings are at the other end of the site

Get the guys who were working on the "sacred" site to move down the COE end of the ground many hands make COE appear sooner

I find your use of "sacred" site to be disgusting.

Why?

To me he wasn't giving it the respect it deserves

A mate of mine is a project manager with the company building the COE.

He said it will be delayed 4-6 months because of the finding.

Definitely will not be ready for next off season

Just passing on what was said.

The mayor was pretty confident it wasn't going to delay the COE. Also said that works had not stop on the COE side of the project.

Only caveat he gave for a delay was weather.

Didn’t the delay only affect half the project ie. the community side ?

Well your mate is confused.

There are two completely separate buildings. The Coe is unaffected. The community Centre is. Two different parts of the same complex. Only one is delayed, and it isn't us.

If its one DA, you cant get an occupation certificate until the whole development is complete. It will delay the COE.

So you're saying it won't delay construction of the COE, but it could delay our ability to enter and start using it? Surely the DA could be amended if so. Why have an empty facility?

Times have changed. When I played footy for school in the mid-60s we often played on Wednesday afternoons on Belmore Oval, home ground of the Dogs. There wasn't a blade of grass between the quarter lines and a cricket pitch in the middle. I thought that was bad but they reckon North Sydney Oval was worse.

To amend a DA requires a section 96, which in itself can take weeks/months
