I liked the "buy in or leave" message. I have faith that we're in safe hands with him whether the 4 sign or not. He has enough runs on the board to attract quality replacements.

I can't say I'm optimistic. The players remain and the contract mess is just heating up.
Good luck Ivan.

I have a feeling that the contract mess and other messes have just taken the first step towards being sorted. Whichever way they go.
Before anyone jumps on me, I didn't say they **WERE SORTED,**.

Ivan Cleary's tenure at the Wests Tigers has officially started after the new coach addressed the playing group at the team's recovery session on Monday morning.

In his first task as the coach of the Tigers, Cleary met with the team at Cabarita swimming pool on Monday morning to mark the beginning of a new chapter at the club.

Cleary, who will be announced as coach at a press conference at Wests Ashfield Leagues Club at 4pm on Monday afternoon, will take control of the club until the end of 2020.

He joins the club after a nightmare month in which Jason Taylor was axed as coach, with the team floundering on a four-game losing streak.

Cleary couldn't have asked for a tougher baptism of fire, making the road trip to Townsville on Saturday for their round six clash against Johnathan Thurston's North Queensland Cowboys.

probably was tempted to drown many off them …

Good luck Ivan. I understand he wont work miracles this year and wont judge him on this years performance. I hope he gets going on our roster and determining who is going and who is staying. Hopefully you will be the coach to turn this around an get us out of this whole created by your predecessor.

Can't wait to see which players bail out and which players get on the bus !

About time we had a decent coach !

Pascoe did make this statement this afternoon;
“We have a group of players who are ready to take the next step in their playing careers." I wonder if he meant the step out of the club?

Hey All, old time poster who has jumped back on after a few years in limbo….it's a great positive start for a new future. Fingers crossed he can kick some behinds into having pride in their current performances, not what they are assumed to be owed in the future....

Wrong sport Luke, we don't kick behinds.
Lol

Welcome back mate I hope our new coach can improve this mob.

cqtiger we don't appear to be kicking anything at the moment!!! :astonished:

I'm really really really happy Cleary is now coach. I've got a lot of faith in him and think it is the best thing to happen to the club in years.
He has a history of improving clubs in need of it and I don't think the players could ask for a better replacement.
If they're not on board they can leave.

I like his description of "blockages in the programme". Didn't Alan Jones say recently that the Wallabies needed a tune? I much prefer Ivan's description.

I loved that. Get with the program or get out.

I was super impressed with the presser from Cleary. No nonsense. Its clear he wont be making excuses.

Im all but certain none of the players have been satisfied with the performance of the club on or off the field for some time.
This appointment is the most positive step the club has made for a long time. Whether the current crop embrace it we will find out soon enough - and if not we move on without them.

Good luck Ivan you're going to need it. I'm sure you'll figure out pretty quick whose who in the zoo and the games they play.

Love it. Feeling better already.

That will change on Saturday night once the Cowboys finish their training run against us.

Nah I'm expecting a towelling. In fact Ive written this year off at this stage but happy if Cleary uses it to re-shape the way he wants it. I only want one more win, against Souffs round 10.

With half the first grade team off contract and a new coach surely we see some renewed effort. And make no mistake we are losing mostly on effort.

Very happy to see Ivan Cleary announces. Seems like a no nonsense kind of guy. Who won't be bullied. He is optimistic but also realistic that there are issues that need addressing.

Just watched the press conference, what was the process they keep referring to ? seemed a lot of emphasis on that word LOL. They either went through a few applicants or they used these two weeks to bargain with Ivan to get him….. Whatever it was I am glad with outcome

great article. Especially the player problems.

If those bstards don't stop saying "poisoned chalice" I am going to neck someone. 3 coaches in 5 years is quite common, I've gone through the figures, Eels for example have had far more coaches in the last 8 or so years.
