Wests Tigers confirm Gibbs and Fifita departure

Embarrassing and amateurish they have officially gone yet we have nothing

The correct way would be to announce Blair first, then the departures.
Mickey mouse stuff from Humpty….not just this deal but the whole god damned mess.
We have half a squad leaving and apparently one player replacing them....mans a genius!

if you were our CEO ink, and you had the players you wanted, we'd be cheating the salary cap.

what were your thoughts when we upgraded Lawrence, Ayshford, Woods etc ?

The same when we extended Gibbs & took the option on Fifita….5 players. meh
We signed only Utai last year, no one this year and the squad is been ripped apart

I'm inclined to agree Ink. I don't have the business credentials that Humphreys does and I'm not on the inside so I don't know what the method behind the madness is either (there may well be perfect justification for it for all we know,) but from the outside looking in it does look like a right royal mess.

I hope it's all cleaned up ASAP so we can move on, all this uncertainty amongst the upper echelons of the club gives the playing group an excuse to perform poorly.

maybe if we are cunning, we can send cronulla David Fifita (they are identical)…....and next year we will still have Andrew (who seems to be David). Are you confused.....because I am.

No but seriously, David Fifita has been playing a lot more prop for Wests in NSW cup whereas in the past has been a second rower. Is there any chance that Sheensy is maybe trying to mould him into a clone of his brother?

Given that David is not on a top tier contract, it is highly likely he will join Andrew at the Sharks next season.

Haha I was suggesting that the tigers try the old switcheroo, by swapping Andrew and David. Therefore sharkies get Dave….and we keep Andrew. Identical twins (its got to work)

want to clear something up

people seem **very confused** over the nature of Fifita's departure

it is different to Bryce - Gibbs was released him from his contract. The Tigers had **total control** over that.

We actually took up Fifita's option! We wanted to keep him! However, he did not want to stay. **He left.**
Cronulla offered much better money and he took it. And I don't think we were offering chump change either.
He would still have been paid quite well at the Tiges from what everyone has reported.

This was Fifita's decision and not the club's. It is far from a horrible decision on our behalf, and the fact that we actually took up his option shows we wanted to keep the guy. **He didn't want to stay.**

We only dumped Gibbs to make way for Blair. Not Fifita.
But thankyou, Andrew, for easing our cap concerns just that little more.

total crap! what is your source please!

That would only be a valid arguement if people were saying they wanted Blair as well. For me and I think the majority of posters here, particularly in light of the reported amount going to Blair I would much prefer to have kept the players we had and forgotten about Blair. We were one point and a bad refereeing decision away from a grand final we most likely would have won. With an improving young squad why all this?

The more I think about the loss of these two the better I feel about it.

Gibbs has been great in defense but with the ball Chris Patterson was more affective.

In regards to Fifita, he has potential but then so do Woods and a few others, I see Blair as his direct replacement and I'm very happy with his (hopeful) recruitment.

"Club chief executive Stephen Humphreys told us: "We've always had a big opinion of Aaron and while he is probably getting more game time this year than we predicted, he's starting to realise the potential he's had. With Andrew we've taken up his option and will also hope to sit down to discuss a longer deal."

Despite taking up the option for 2012 on Fifita, Wests Tigers decided not to stand in his way of accepting a lucrative offer. Fifita has played 35 games for Wests Tigers.

“It was an extremely difficult decision for the Club to make given Andrew’s development here but it’s a great opportunity for him personally and we could not lose sight of that,” Humphreys said.

payten def retiring at seasons end?

Yep, it's been announced officially and the big fella's knees are not good.

Willow So the new treatment hasn't worked and he is gone for this year as well ???

The Tigers should get a handful of games out of him this season, but at the end of season is where it will end for Todd.
