Wests Tigers could move to Ryde due to WestConnex project

Australian Rugby Union today announced it will develop a world-class training facility and community sporting hub in Sydney, following a $20 million funding commitment from the Federal Coalition and the NSW State Government.

The facility – to be known as ‘Australian Rugby Development Centre’ – will be located at TG Millner Field, Marsfield, in Sydney’s North West.

TG Millner Field will be transformed into a high performance sport centre and training facility for Australia’s national Rugby teams including the Qantas Wallabies and will act as the Olympic base for Australia’s Men’s and Women’s Sevens teams .

Potentially what the ground share refers to.

TG MIlner in its current state would not be suitable.

As for Meadowbank…Ive no idea where they mean other than the large sports fields on the river on Constitution Rd....there is no admin or gym facilities there tho

It just amazes me that from Liverpool west there is nothing suitable. Maybe the locals don't want it … Or is it governments aren't interested. The fastest growing area in Sydney doesn't seem to be that fast growing does it ?

Whatever happen to Noyce's plan to move into UWS … or Campbelltown council building admin/gym next to the tennis club for the WT if they moved in !

oh ye Humpty happened.. :unamused:

PS Merry Xmas to all

Haha !!!!
Good to hear from you Staks ….. Merry Christmas to you too

I suggested to Grant Mayer that they utilise the old Panjo building near Campbelltown Stadium. As it is sitting there unoccupied, plenty of room for a gym and I've heard it has a pool and only a stones throw to the sports ground.

That is a great idea,

For those of you who don't know what that is,
http://newslocal.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/iphone/homepage.aspx#_articleef3273bd-f57a-4ff2-a631-6d1f6eb0f176

It basically was a one stop shop for kids, that was never really finished, is untenanted.

It's been purchased by new investors, has office space, aquatic centre, and much more room for a specialized gym less then 1 k from the ground.

That would be the ideal situation imo. Can't see the ARU wanting to share it though. If it's a government funded project they might not have a say in the matter though.

Wests Tigers are considering hopping into bed with a rival code as they search for a new training base to replace Concord Oval. The WestConnex project has all but spelt the end of the joint-venture club's time at its current facility and officials are exploring potential new locations they can call home. One possibility is shifting to TG Millner Field, where they would be cohabitants with the Eastwood rugby club. Other options include the ELS Hall Park premises in Ryde, a site in Meadowbank or a location within the Homebush Bay precinct. The Tigers have already increased their presence in the area by shifting home games from Allianz Stadium to ANZ Stadium. Tigers CEO Grant Mayer believes the WestConnex project means the club has ''two years max'' before the club is likely to be shifted from Concord. ''It's going to be massive, it's going underneath Parramatta Road, so it will be a big bonus for this area because there will be a whole bunch of urban regeneration,'' Mayer said. ''But to build it they will need to build space to park trucks, so I reckon we could be on the drawing board to be moved out of here. There's no way you could have trucks parked here and have a football team.'' If an appropriate site can be found, Mayer said it was possible to find a new home in just 12 months. ''[Concord Oval] is aged and when you have inferior training facilities you have to pay more for players to come to the club,'' Mayer said. ''This is an exciting opportunity for us.''

The original title was ''Wests Tigers may link with Woodies'' but i thought it would be to missleading.
