Wests Tigers fined $187,140 for 2010 cap breach

Stephen Humphreys management has hit another hurdle.

Not only has he lost Steve Folkes to the Dragons, he has mis-managed the salary cap by breaching it worse than any other club in the NRL in 2010.

Not only has he overseen a disasterous distribution of our 2011 jerseys, he now has to fork out a massive fine.

Good work Humpty.

No wonder why we have to offload two of our favourite sons.

The breach is bought about because the NRL in their wisdom refused to count the time at Balmain & Wests spent by Farah and Gibbs because they are not Wests Tigers is the basic gist I believe.

It is a breach, big deal. It is only money. Something we have alot more of now we have a decent sponsorship suite.

But yes Sack The Fonz, Down with Orange, Magpies for the State Cup side and any other axe you feel the need to grind

Not sure what you mean.

Gibbs, Fulton and Farah played junior reps for Wests and Balmain - the junior rep sides of the Wests Tigers. Who else are they suppose to play for ?

There was a problem with the progression in the NRL's eyes from memory.

There were a few articles about it on this forum last year. Will forrige later to see if I can find it as they explained it all.

The club knew this was coming anyway

Smeg,
The club was told by the NRL "dont do it" !! And the club did it.

Yeah great lets throw away $187k !!! We have heaps of cash !! Lets have a money party and give money away to everyone !!! Yipee !!!

I love the majority of your posts but you have a nasty outlook Bug.

Yes there is accountability at the top but you'll find there are personnel including accountants and legal staff assigned the task of ensuring this is looked after.

It will all be sorted.

I just read an article about them not counting playing jersey flegg in 2002 - in the 8 year exempion.

Totally ridiculous decision by the NRL. No wonder they are the laughing stock of world sport. Amateur hacks!

So funny bug its like you get your kicks out of any so called mistakes the club may make…. forget all the good stuff cause it doesnt suit your hatred for anything wests tigers.Oh boo hoo magpies RIP

i just cant believe some other teams wernt over the cap.

I remember last year reading an article in the telecrap from memory regarding salary cap concessions for gibbs and farah because they were local juniors. it would have removed 50k for each player to not be included in the cap (so 100k of wages not associated with the cap all up) but there was a concern because they were not wests tigers juniors as wests tigers wernt around when they were juniors and the nrl rejected it, but I think the article was stating that the tigers were still going ahead with the cap exclusions of these two players….... so if this is the main problem either humphreys or the NRL have have miscommunicated and f#*#ed up somewhere.

BTW, Utai he is on a seconed tier contract with big games bonues each week isnt he?? surely that has to be a bit of a problem to, he has played every game in 1st grade this year

Just imagine how many Players they could have bought for the Magpies state cup side with 187,000.00 BBug!!
What an injustice….

Bug what is your problem? So the club has made a mistake and have had their wrist slapped. Do you in you're perfect world never make a mistake or go through life smelling of roses?

The only time you come on this site is to twist the knife, you never come out and celebrate or overall seem to enjoy being a WESTS TIGERS support at all.

What is your problem?

Who cares…move along, nothing to see here.

Tigers basically showed the NRL the big finger, and did the logical thing. Good on them.

$170K odd is pocket change for us anyway.

Agreed Staks. From what I understand, if players were good enough to go from Flegg straight to 1st Grade they didn't qualify, but if they spent time in state, then they did.

Worst ruling ever. I think it was to help the clubs to remain on equal footing because some didn't have a flegg side, such as the storm. But it's still a stupid decision.

The NRL told them not to do it. Ofcourse the NRL are a disgrace, but we need to play by the rules.

Tiger4ever, I love Wests Tigers mate.

Just dont like bad management.

I am angry at :-
- losing $187K,
- potentially losing Gibbs and Fulton, two club legends because of Mismanagement !!
- not holding onto Folkes (the $187k would have gone a long way into keeping him)
- not being able to buy a black and white Wests Tigers heritage Jersey yet, but being told to buy a black and Orange one by the club instead.

Humphreys has some explaining to do.

The National Rugby League has today outlined Salary Cap breaches against the Wests Tigers, the Gold Coast Titans, the St George Illawarra Dragons, the Parramatta Eels and the Canberra Raiders following the completion of all audits into the 2010 season.

The largest breach notice is in relation to the Wests Tigers, who claimed a ‘long serving player allowance’ contrary to advice from the Salary Cap audit team.

Wests Tigers later responded to the breach:

“Wests Tigers has always supported the NRL Salary Cap principles and rules. We believe that the objective of equality amongst Clubs is fundamental to the strength and competitiveness of the NRL Telstra Premiership.

We also respect the need for Salary Cap compliance to be closely monitored and managed by the NRL.

In relation to our 2010 position, however, we strongly disagree with the findings of the Salary Cap audit. The application of the Veteran Player Allowance has been the subject of many discussions with the NRL over an extended period of time. We have maintained a consistent view on our entitlement to the Allowance throughout these discussions. We shall reinforce this view in representations to the NRL Chief Executive in accordance with the prescribed process.

It would be inappropriate for us to make any public comment about the matter at this time.”

Your just annoyed because he can see the value in having as little to do with the 'Magpie' brand as possible
