Wests Tigers fume over GWS Giants jersey

Theyre will be aiming for our kids over the next few years

Parents who are scared to have their skinny 7 year olds running against the Poly kids.

Maybe Jnr RL needs to incorporated a Weight factor in Mini and Mod League

And will someone please take down the Images, You didn't have the Joel Monahan pick on the front page when that was in the news.

I find these pics jut as offensive on MY WTForum.

They will take a chunk out of the soccer junior base far more than League.

I say this because the kids not allowed to play League are being put into soccer or, in the worst cases, tennis

I am involved heavily in a primary school and, like most others, the AFL have been in my school to promote their product. A few random points…

1\. The teachers need to push and push to get kids involved in the clinics when there is a cost. Clinics which run for 8 weeks in the term cost about $25 per child. They get a half hour lesson a week and a goody bag with tickets and a footy and some posters. When I've asked my students about the goody bag, they all say they keep the footy to kick and chuck out the rest.

2\. I know for a fact that the clinics have resulted in none of the 250 children who took part in the clinic signing up to play AFL on the weekend.

3\. My school is located in Bulldogs territory and when the Dogs send their players for a clinic, they are literally swamped with kids.

4\. The AFL cook the books in terms of junior numbers - they include kids who do these clinics in their junior numbers. It's a crock.

5\. The real test of AFL's popularity in Sydney is their diabolical Sydney ratings. The Swans play "blockbusters" in Sydney that are live on TV... and get outrated by the Iron Chef on SBS.

6\. The league has proven it's popularity on TV. The next deal will be worth a motza. The AFL will not be the only code with money. Let's hope an IC can see it invested wisely.

7\. The AFL do not realise how big their task is. Their weakness is their over-confidence. They seriously think all they need to do is get people to watch their game once and we'll all be converted and their job will be done. Just like the US entering Vietnam, they have no idea how hard this will be.

8\. I agree with those who say that the GWSG will canabalise supporters from the Swans. Our biggest supported clubs are from the West - The Eels, the Dogs and, of course, the mighty Tigers.

GWS in Tigers colours (with quotes from Tigers officials) is Tigers news

Doggiegate was not tigers news

Here's hoping, the product is great, just needs to be marketed well

I agree with spartan, all were doing is what they want, by posting large images of their jersey on the main page….its really pretty dumb.

If you feel the need there should be large images of our jerseys with theirs smaller for comparison, if it really is necessary at all

Just putting it out there, but the NBA and the NFL easily co-exist next to each other. People support both teams.

I watch Swans blockbusters and I wanted them to go well into the finals. I watched both Grand Finals, and have watched friday Night AFL consistently for around 3 years. Yet I am a season ticket holder at this club.

Why must you go for one over the other? A sports fan will be able to appreciate both and enjoy both products instead of having to HATE one and LOVE the other. It happens in other countries, why can't it happen in here?

The USA is a much bigger market than Australia…

The difference here mate is that the AFL is making a concerted effort to wipe rugby league from the marketplace.

I dont just hate them, I despise them with every fibre of my being.

How is it "loser talk". I can't see why there has to be a loser. Fine, the USA is a bigger market, but they also have more domestic leagues (NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB).

I just don't get the competitiveness. Will I go to a GWS game, hell yeah I will. I will still buy a jersey every year and buy my season ticket for the Tigers, which is really the main thing. I just read half these comments and feel like if we are watching AFL, suddenly we have committed a deadly sin and will stop supporting the Tigers/NRL. No WAY does it work like that.

This is not a big deal.
The only feeling I've had is prode that the media think the team are "riding on the back of the success of the Wests Tigers". Like yeah!!!!! Wait until we win the comp in 2011 - how popular will orange black and white be then.

When I first saw the colours, I immediately thought it was too close to ours. But seeing the picture in the paper, I don't know why but I don't really see much resemblance any more. Their orange seems more pastel or something…

Maybe it is just that theirs doesn't have any sleeves. Makes it look more like a training singlet to me...

It is a very different - less vibrant orange + the grey/charcoal also diminishes the contrast - but conceptually it is based very much on our colours!

They have merely made enough points of difference to avoid any potential legal action!

You really can't compare the USA to Aust. The population, markets, and business dollars available supports 4 major leagues (and even then NHL struggles). You're talking about a domestic population of 300m plus and a stream of revenue coming into from overseas.

It's apples and oranges mate and to make a direct comparison is well… :deadhorse:

I really cant believe how dumb some of you are.
Your having a [This word has been automatically removed] about colours.
What can they use that isnt used by another code somewhere?
Get a life.
cheers

I couldn't care less what jersey/singlet they wear its like comparing apples and oranges besides, we don't even know what our jerssy will be like next year so there isn't much to compare with???? Come on sponsors get sorted so our 2011 gear can be ready for Christmas.

Apparently people here have been ringing sports radio programs and talking lawsuits Re: this topic.

Everyone had a good chuckle this morning.
