Wests Tigers fume over GWS Giants jersey

A club in another code is going to use similar colours to ours. They really should bring back public floggings. What a disgrace. How can working families in Blacktown possibly differentiate between the 2 teams now. They'll turn up to Leichhardt to see how Issy goes. Shame GWS Shame.

Just putting it out there, but the NBA and the NFL easily co-exist next to each other. People support both teams.

I watch Swans blockbusters and I wanted them to go well into the finals. I watched both Grand Finals, and have watched friday Night AFL consistently for around 3 years. Yet I am a season ticket holder at this club.

Why must you go for one over the other? A sports fan will be able to appreciate both and enjoy both products instead of having to HATE one and LOVE the other. It happens in other countries, why can't it happen in here?

The USA is a much bigger market than Australia…

Also your talking about two entirely different sports - you should be comparing the rise of soccer in the US at the same time that NFL has become very elitist in its choice of athletes - small kids can't play NFL so they look at soccer in the US - what most people are worried about is AFL stealing kids who might otherwise had played league or as a lot of kids do, start out in soccer and then move to league at a later age - now there will be a second choice.

Apparently people here have been ringing sports radio programs and talking lawsuits Re: this topic.

Everyone had a good chuckle this morning.

The most predictable thing about you Inky is your habit of altering the facts to either suit your position or to ridicule someone. Trouble is old mate, you only end up making yourself appear foolish.

If I had a modicum of respect for your capacity to conduct a reasonable argument, I'd feel offended, honest I would old mate.

I really cant believe how dumb some of you are.
Your having a b**** about colours.
What can they use that isnt used by another code somewhere?
Get a life.
cheers

You've completely missed the point that some here have been trying to make Gaz…...

cheers.

I think the GWS jerseys look quite good. The question is why didn't our marketing team produce a singlet jersey for our players?

Imagine Skando, Fitzy, Gibbs et al playing in singlets, female memberships and I guess some male memberships, will increase dramatically.

I think our marketing guys dropped the ball here - this was an opportunity lost.

I am involved heavily in a primary school and, like most others, the AFL have been in my school to promote their product. A few random points…

1\. The teachers need to push and push to get kids involved in the clinics when there is a cost. Clinics which run for 8 weeks in the term cost about $25 per child. They get a half hour lesson a week and a goody bag with tickets and a footy and some posters. When I've asked my students about the goody bag, they all say they keep the footy to kick and chuck out the rest.

2\. I know for a fact that the clinics have resulted in none of the 250 children who took part in the clinic signing up to play AFL on the weekend.

3\. My school is located in Bulldogs territory and when the Dogs send their players for a clinic, they are literally swamped with kids.

4\. The AFL cook the books in terms of junior numbers - they include kids who do these clinics in their junior numbers. It's a crock.

5\. The real test of AFL's popularity in Sydney is their diabolical Sydney ratings. The Swans play "blockbusters" in Sydney that are live on TV... and get outrated by the Iron Chef on SBS.

6\. The league has proven it's popularity on TV. The next deal will be worth a motza. The AFL will not be the only code with money. Let's hope an IC can see it invested wisely.

7\. The AFL do not realise how big their task is. Their weakness is their over-confidence. They seriously think all they need to do is get people to watch their game once and we'll all be converted and their job will be done. Just like the US entering Vietnam, they have no idea how hard this will be.

8\. I agree with those who say that the GWSG will canabalise supporters from the Swans. Our biggest supported clubs are from the West - The Eels, the Dogs and, of course, the mighty Tigers.

My experience in the Hawkesbury is similar to this. The AFL is no-where near as "professional" in their approach to school kids, but this does NOT mean that the NRL/IC can rest on their laurels.

The effort in schools and the country areas must be run as a joint-effort with the Education deparment, like they have been doing in the Penrith area for some years. My son worked for the ARL out of the Penrith Club a few years ago and Penrith's junior operation is very slick. Wests Tigers could do worse than contact Don Feltis and see how they do it.

Did you? Funny that, in the first instance you said you didn't hear the call. yet you 'all had a good laugh' If your going to be a revisionist, you might try and study your own chronology Inky…..

Ooooh hey I'm a 'legend' folks !! Ah and here we have the basis of Inky's problem, attention deficit. Must be deflating when you post 3,500 'opinions' in a calendar year and you're still not that noticeable or memorable. That's what irritates you isn't it old mate? I'm starting to love this, the squirming is illuminating. What's your on air persona Inky? You seem to be very shy on that score mate?

Schweppes v DL, such a 'well known recent case', but doesn't help your position, since you're clearly not familiar with the errors made by Heerey in relation to evidence and the resultant observations and directions of the Full Court. Nor would you be aware that the plaintiff was denied leave to appeal the HC. The matter rested ultimately on the opinion of Heerey and not the assembled marketing experts. In any case you're comparing a component of a major brand with a major brand per se and ignoring the fact that each case must be treated on it's merits. So don't try and pretend your familiar with the case, because you're not, beyond the 5 lines the Tele might have afforded it.

Play the man and not the ball mate, your speciality  I suppose I should be flattered by your campaign and you know I'm warming to it, so do your best

Can we quote the case of Jones vs Smith in the High Court as a precedent where the judge presiding said:
"Why are there some many dickheads on this forum?"

Legal action merely gives more free publicity to the GWS franchise. Any legal case would be a speculation at best and being a plaintiff with a significantly smaller legal fund would also hinder the chances of success in my opinion at least.

I think that the vaunted sky blue away jersey will be far more successful in branding terms than the similar colours of their home strip.

But thats my opinion

All of which is quite relevant and has probably influential in the club just letting the thing pass. I'm just discussing two things here, the obsessive and calculating behaviour of a forum member and the fact that every circumstance and resultant action is different

ummm…awe forget it

continue..

g ayfl blows IMO...it will die Swans are a rabble so will GWS end up ...talk about much ado about nothing..

I do find it amusing though that a Balmain tragic would arc up over the colours.... yet when his own team that he supports does away with half it's traditional colours and he's not on the phone to Slats and the team...

pffft

Imagine the uproar if GOLD was shafted from the WESTS Tigeeers Jersey.... :astonished: .

i just dont see how it is a big deal. There just isn't enough colours to go around so you are bound to get similar colour combinations. Half the NFL are blue coloured teams,

and does that mean st george dragons and melbourne heart should not wear the red and white since the sydney swans preceeded it with both designs (red v and white stripes)?

there is no logic in that, otherwise we'd end up with rainbow coloured strips and no one wants that.

Yeah they probably are riding on the success of the west tigers but i pretty sure many team in the western sydney area have more then often been orange such as the defunct west sydney Ram rugby club. So there must be some history in it.

I wasn't very impressed this week when I opened the Inner West Courier to the sport page (which often has a Wests Tigers article) to see a large colour photo of Israel and his mates!

But, the GWS Giants might have got something right - "The club is asking supporters to select their preferred jumper through an online poll at gwsgiants.com.au."

I thought these guys were based out at Blacktown(?) but the last paragraph says -

"And it looks like many of the new team members will be Inner West residents. It was reported last week that the coach Kevin Sheedy, who lives in Breakfast Point, plans to move new interstate recruits, including Israel Folau, into his suburb."

"his suburb"? What the?
