Wests Tigers GM of Football Operations

this would probably be my dream job, but i doubt theyre too keen on hiring uni students. maybe in a few years (quite a few years)

I know this sounds out there but what about Mick Potter, he has proven his worth, knows the problems that need to be addressed and will not have the burden of head coach around his neck.
Prefer him over someone like Brian Smith!

Just a whisper from a unreliable source, Mathew Elliot is interested and has some support from within. At first I was horrified, than after giving it some thought, I started coming around to the idea. He has been around football clubs for years, he has dealt with players and player managers for years and would know the ins and outs of the salary cap. He has good media skills even if he tends to be a little whacky and be all accounts most players seem to like him (maybe not across the Tasman)

Anyway dont shoot the messenger just relaying some info and Iam sure their will be another 20 names that are being linked to the job.

Just trying to think of some people who might be good for yhis role and for some reason I'm thinking John Lang. I also wonder if they will consider Paul Sironen, although I think a lot of people would have an issue with that.

I reckon CB or King Sirro should apply for this job…Or maybe...Irvine! Dust off your CV champ, it's clobbering time!

If I took on this role, about 95% of the staff in the footy operations would be sweating bullets, and rightfully so.

Well I certainly got that wrong LOL

Whoever we hire for the role will need heaps of experience and will need to have his head screwed on

Someone with contacts as well

Has Waldron from the Storm served his penance yet ??

Peter Parr from the Cowboys perhaps

If Gould at Penrith is the model, then there seem to me to be three things about the suitable candidate:

1\. A long playing and/or coaching association with the club

2\. An image in the media that is of benefit to the club

3\. Generally respected in the Rugby League community (ie not a boofhead)

Gould is these things to Penrith, and Peter Sterling would be an obvious choice at Parramatta if they went down this path. Or Wayne Bennett at the Broncos.

I can't think of anyone who covers all three. I do think Paul Sironin is a possibility, even if his son is in first grade, but he would need to work on his media image. I also think Tim Sheens could do it.

Gould has those aspects as you mention. That said, the first two are completely irrelevant for us in our search.

Our criteria will be:

1\. Great football brain - beyond just in game tactics.

2\. Knows the structures and systems to put in place to get the best out of footballers (in all our teams)

3\. Excellent leader of people

Steve Price ( the player not the coach ) comes to mind. Not sure what he's doing now but I'm sure he was doing was doing his MBA and wanted to get into sports admin.
Still lives in NZ and has been awarded the MNZM.
Who knows might want to come home.

A couple of my well connected Rugby mates have told me that the ex-CEO of the Waratahs may be heading to Tiger town. I don't know what the role would be but apparently he and the Waratahs coach Michael Cheika don't get on and Cheika has the runs on the board given the Waratahs won the title this year. So someone has to go and it won't be the coach.

Apparently (and I think the name was Allen) is a financial whiz-kid and he turned the Waratahs around financially in a few years. Again he is very well connected when it comes to finding sponsorship and connecting with the fanbase.

Before we start doing cartwheels this is only a rumour and there would have to be a significant number of stars to align for this to happen.

Sounds like the right move imo, these roles being filled need to be outside the nrl circle. Looking back at past successes of people within nrl admin is a difficult thing in itself as there hasnt been many comes to mind. But to obtain people of that calibre, we are gooing to have to oay $$$ and offering approximately 150k will not buy that quality at that level.
