Oh, really? Well what about a blue and white bulldog or a red white and blue rooster, perhaps a maroon and yellow horse, red and green rabbits anyone? The jersey doesn't have to be the colour of the animal logo and the black looks just great with the gold and white. I do agree, however, that the alternate should be the reverse of the black, predominantly gold with black and white vee.
Historically different situation with the Balmain Tigers and those other Johnny come lately club identities. Balmain supporters started calling them the "Tigers" upon their formation because of their black & gold stripes, their first jersey was thin hoops or stripes. Balmain and Western Suburbs were the only foundation clubs I know that used animal identities. Newtown were "Bluebags", Glebe the 'Dirty Reds' etc.. The blue & white Bulldogs were originally "The Berries, The red, white & blue Roosters were "The Tri-Colours". Souths weren't originally red & green rabbits, a rabbitoh was a vendor who sold rabbits. St George in their glory days were "The Saints" until the St George happy dragon became their sponsor. If the club really wants to separate itself from it's Balmain/Wests history, why stop at changing the gold to a tangerine orange, change the shades of the black and white as well. As mentioned previously Brisbane has slowly moved over to the Balmain gold and their maroon has almost changed to black, and they're looking a lot better than us.
