Wests Tigers need quick $1m to survive

@Abraham said:
Obviously your in the small minority there, judging by the crowd figures in good weather (17k v parra), compared to the crowds in the pouring rain and thunder storms (5k & 7k vs melbourne and NZ).

So it is a coincidence that 17k was also another local Sydney team who travels well?

Christ are we really going to argue about crowd numbers? I went to a few games in belting rain - the Cowboys game was particularly dismal. By the time the Storm game rolled around and it was pouring rain at my house in the morning I just couldn't do it. So yeah weather, timing, the opposition and most of all our performance makes a massive difference in crowd numbers. If we were coming 3rd we'd get a massive crowd against anyone anywhere…

Whilst 2nd most, or 5th most, or 3rd…or 4th...is very very good, its not quite ''the most marketable brand'' as you claimed.

If you'd said we are up there amongst the most marketable brands....that wouldve been more accurate.

Nice try

Would any of you be happy to go back to either a Balmain team or a Magpies team in the NRL competition? I was as die hard Balmain as the next guy but I have realised that I don't want to go back to supporting Balmain Tigers. I follow Wests Tigers.

Fact is, none of us would be having this conversation if the team was winning. The constant release of inside information can be nothing less than a ploy by some to destabilise the club.

If Wests Ashfield provide most of the cash then they should get most of the say over how it is spent. If Balmain cannot govern their own finances then why should they have a say over how to govern finances supplied by Wests Ashfield?

This does not help to attract sponsors or players to our great club. Such a shame!

Yes, tigersmurf, I do want to go back to being Wests Magpies. I have followed them all of my life. You cant change teams. Once a Magpie, always a Magpie. Once a Tiger, always a Tiger. I know hundreds of supporters of clubs such as Norths, Wests, Balmain, Illawarra etc.. that would love to see their "only" club alive and kicking. How can you just pack up being a supporter one day, and just support a new team the next day …..... you can't. Its ridiculous to even think about it. Could you imagine the English soccer clubs just merging to make a joint venture. Manchester United and Manchester City merging to become the Manchester Marvels??? No, because their league retains loyalty, tradition, and allows supporters to be born and die with the same club.... something the corporate dollar here does not. I hope Wests Tigers die, and die miserably. Thanks to Balmain, they are one foot in the grave. Just like Balmains ground, juniors, and funds.

Sounds very bitter to me …... If it wasn't for Wests Tigers coming together, you would have had nothing at all after 1999.

The latest talent???? how many NRL games combined have they played???? That's right hero, a big fat zero. You can only name 2 juniors from Balmain - huge effort from you there. Go back to your derelict leagues club, and suck on some $3.00 bottle of wine. Maybe even go and ask Big Dawn Fraser for a cuddle, and cry over your piss weak half of the merger. Maybe even ask "club legends" Blockhead, or Back door Benny about the current plight of the Wests Tigers. Oh, that's right - they never played for Wests Tigers, so the bullshit they spruik is irrelevant !!!

You aint my pal idiot. Some Wests Magpies fanatics told me about this joker forum, thought I would take a look. They warned me about having to hear from the many dickheads on the site. Looks like I found one. Anyway, as Wests are the powerbrokers behind the joke venture, seems like our voice is louder…. ha ha ha, wooden spoon contenders.

Geez anyone who thinks that either wests or Balmain will ever be playing in the NRL as a separate entity again is seriously deluded, I'm sure we all wish we could go back to the way it was but this is the way it is.

No that's not right at all.

When the most marketable brand is handled by idiots, to get such high numbers is almost a miracle. We were ahead of established Sydney clubs like the Dogs, Parra and the Saint in a lot of those stats.

The clubs ahead of us in most areas were Melbourne and Brisbane, super clubs with basically entire states as their backyards. They could have a steaming turd as their club logo and still out-do anyone.

If you want to nit pick the wording of my posts and miss the bigger and more imprtant picture, that's a problem for you to deal with my friend.

I'm confused??? Didn't the Wests Magpies just put 100 points on a team in the Bundy Cup? I wasnt there that day, but I'm certain they still exist :crazy

Recent events clarify things real well.

Obviously, the Balmain side of the JV knew financial troubles were coming a while back so thats why former management and others were pushing for a more"independent" board a sea of orange and a new "Wests Tigers" identity.

What they were really trying to do is Knowing Balmain couldn't contribute financially before long they were looking to set up the club as a Balmain clone so even if it went independent people would see it unmistakenly as Balmain, even more than now.

Under Stephen Humphreys anything was possible regarding the sea of orange. But thankfully hes gone now(well not really as hes still pushing the barrow of selling balmains share just to spite wests as his real intentions). The blokes a total tosser.

But now now the wicked witch is finally dead you can see that the wests tigers have made great steps getting rid of staff aligned with Wests like Georgallis and Leeds and host of deadwood players and next will be surely the running of the club re the board. The truth is we do need to go independent at board level( with people with no buyist towards wests or Balmain)so we can get rid of the fossils like Dawn Fraser(great Australian and no disrespect but she aint a good board member).Once the Wests Tigers get their boardroom in order and are all rowing in the same direction we will be a powerful force once more.

Leeds had been with Wests Tigers since day 1\. Do you really think he was aligned with Western Suburbs? Same goes for Georgallis. He played for Wests Tigers in the first year.

Another big problem is the negotiating of factions any coach has had to do in order to get even the smallest things they require.

Appointments and the such.

One only has to look at the utter debacle of the State Cup appointment this off season
