Wests Tigers NSW Cup Structure

I personally see some validity in a single wt nsw cup team. It has been expressed clearly here on forums that a single nsw cup team = end of the magpies but no so much the end of the tigers.. (think of the telegraph articles a few weeks ago) - yet to see an article about the looming end of balmain. The nsw cup needs a complete overhaul and should be aligned with the nrl comp. hopefully the independent commish will fix that eventually.

I think there has been a slow desensatising for old Balmain Tigers fans when it comes to losing the state cup team.
I can't obviously talk for anyone else, but as soon as they started calling the team Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers they started a slow kill of the Balmain Tigers.
So as I see it, this has been coming for a long time… It has just been a little more sudden for Wests fans.

I see your point but the way some people think it is that the 'balmain tigers brand' has blurred into the wt nrl brand. Example: Still referred to as the tigers, still have black and gold merchandise/branding, still have a tiger mascot on the field, WT still play at the 'tigers spiritual home ground of leichhardt' etc.. This is just an observation compared to the wests magpies club who are less recognised 'visually' in modern day WT.. Thats my view on why we dont see balmain diehards 'going in for the fight' when it comes to still wanting that identity in NSW cup (compared to magpie diehards). Generations will one day move on but it is an interesting point to note.

When I was a kid… Tigers fans called thier team Balmain, Now they call them the Tigers.
Wests fans called thier team the Magpies... Now they call them Wests...
It's half a dozen in one hand 6 in the other.
The petty gripes about exposure etc... Really carry no weight
The Black and Whites faithful have been crying blue murder since before The Dogs took Lamb....
It won't change anytime soon.

The way i see it referring to them as either 'Wests' or the 'tigers' isn't an issue as they are both apart of our name

There are moves afoot from Balmain to have the sole feeder team called BRET or Balmain.

And you latte sippers wonder why us Magpies are spewing….

lol you are a newbie aren't you. Bug is an old Magpie, and as staunch as they come when it comes to looking after the Liverpool/Macarthur reigon

Apart from the random call of warren smith on fox and the odd gaff from rabs… 95%of media and other league fans refer to WT as 'the tigers'. They are rarely called 'wests'. Just like the dogs, roosters (when do you hear them called sydney?) Same goes for BRET. Thats not the fault of anyone person or group inparticular but its another thing that gives less of an impression of a wests presence in WT... once again frustrating for the diehards who just want the original wests or 'black & white' brand to be remembered just as the tiger is today.

I can imaine it would be frustrating but the club always attempts to keep this in check as best they can.

Ray Warren has mentioned several times on air that he has been reminded by the club that they are the "Wests Tigers" and not simply the Tigers

I love it when rabs accidentally calls wt 'western suburbs' lol Rabs has a soft spot for wests in him me thinks.

It wasn't until after the Blow up after blow up on here that I even started to pay attention to be honest…
I was surprised at how often they DO get called Wests Stirlo constantly refers to them as Wests (And yeah, Rabs Calls them Western Suburbs quite often) it got me thinking maybe the old black and whites only notice when they are called the Tigers? and overlook how often they are in fact called Wests.
I liken to my Beautiful misses.... Who only seems to rememeber when I DON'T tell her I love her!!

I'm an old Black and White and i refer to them as the Tigers all the time. But i don't see what the issue is by referring to them as just 'Wests' when thats apart of their name as well. Its like Parra fans argueing that its ok to refer to them as the Eels but not Parramatta and vice verca. Its a mystifying arguement

Well wether its love for your other half or love of your old club they made a 50% contribution to the birth of WT then that is important to some. As i said earlier, i can accept a wt nsw cup team as long as its branded as both balmain and magpies colours under a wt banner. If magpies can also exist in bundy cup in 2013 and beyond then that is a bonus for the diehards. With my acceptance comes the fact that more focus still should be put into the macarthur region and ensure that wt doesnt just become a inner west club that ventures out to campbelltown on a cold monday night for 4 nrl games a year.

Some of the forumers refer to Balmain as being BRET, I was of the understanding that Ryde Eastwood have concluded their association with Balmain, will the Hawks be playing in the Bundy Red Cup?.

Apparently not Leroy. They will be BRET again this season.

Leichhardt has far more traditional history than any other ground Gary!!

When we play at Pratten Park we can start talking about alternative "spiritual grounds" - but Cambo is less than 20 years old and deserves no such recognition!!!!

Well put Red!!…
Out of interest is there an older "Home ground" still used.....
Is Leichhardt the last of the Originals?
