Happily concede that the Polynesian boys would be proud to represent the country of their family's heritage, but you'd be drawing a long bow to establish a credible connection with most of the others. I'm assuming Pat Richards once visited the Guiness factory, or that James Tedesco ordered a latte at Bar Italia?

How is it any different for the non Polynesian players? What would make them not proud to represent their family's heritage also? Somebody doesn't have to be black to appreciate or be proud of their heritage.

I'm still wondering how Luani gets to represent the USA - is he a yank? lol

Also noticed how times have changed - WT have no one representing New Zealand. It's been quite some time since that's happened.

I suppose it would all depend on what part of Samoa he has ties to, because in some terms parts are known as American Samoa…

Just wondering how people from the other countries feel about our players playing for them. They might be thinking that the players use their country to get a rep jersey then forget all about them if they eventually get an Australian jumper

I think there would be more pride in earning a jersey for your country if you were at least born there.

That's true there would be more pride yes. I'd say the other nations would be very excited to play with the nrl players. It strengthens their side and makes them more competitive. It's also a great opportunity to learn from some of the top players.
At this stage the only true strong nations are aus, eng and the kiwis. Having nrl players playing in other teams and helping them to become stronger for the future is a great thing in my mind. We may even see more players from these teams making their way into the nrl over the next 20 years?

The Americans (the guys actually playing in and originating in the US) are up in arms about the selection of their team which was apparently done by someone in Aust. As they say NRL/SL ringers are on thing but picking park footballers and CRL players instead of local players isn't a good look. Speaks volumes though about what's happening over there though - the IRL (or whatever its called now) needs to sort that mess out post world cup

Yep, USA needs to get RL sorted out. Remove the two competing comps USARL and AMNRL and either merge or form a new one. Also, selecting homegrown talent is essential. Apparently Curtis Cunz was injured, but dunno why people like Apple Pope weren't in there ahead of park footballers from NZ.

It's drawing a long bow, isn't it - he should really be representing Samoa, imo, but I suppose they had to fill up the US stocks.

I'd forgotten about Simona, pHyR3 - would've been his debut representing his country, shame he's injured :frowning:

Imagine how many tohu Harris' there are over there. Someone like uate who played rubbish this year missed an Aussie jumper and has potentially kicked some other Fijian flyer who has more pride in that jersey than uate will ever have.

The other side of the coin is this , they will get pummelled playing against sides like Australia or the NZers and that won't do much for the code either

Maybe if they make a limit of 4-5 players it might be a balance , but even then people will still complain one way or the other

Hey, I'll admit it. Sometimes I do. I know its not helpful and I do try to limit/stop myself in the best interest of this forum. Now can you do the same and admit it? Or should we just refer you back to your first post in this thread?

Its ok, we're all friends here, open your heart and see how it feels.

I'd be happy with a limit, and maybe with a clause that countries from Italy/USA could apply for more NRL/ESL players if needed.

Well 2 things. Firstly there is no real guarantee that the park players are better than the USARL/AMNRL guys. It many cases we're not talking about NRL, NSW/Qld Cup or even Ron Massey Cup level players.

Secondly they'd need to get out of there group to get a QF against NZ so they'd need to beat your Scotland, Cook Islands types first. So I think even getting spanked 80-0 by the Kiwis would be a decent effort.

Also they're not talking about a team with just locals - just a few of the better ones salted in with the OS pros.

Uate played rubbish?

Geez, that bad he missed an Aussie jumper….mustve been real bad.

Seriously

He didn't play origin either.
In city country he was almost the worst play.
Even in the NRL he was constantly beaten. True, he had a few good runs but compare that to dally m winger of the year since 2009 then yes uate had a bad year.

For a start comparing uate to what Dollar bill did is a stretch….and questioning his pride is a stretch too....its run the way its run. Im sure uate is looked on God like in Fiji...I doubt theyd be rioting because some kid missed out cause he missed the Roos squad

Fair dinkum people will bich about anything...another garbage off season thread

Snark alright

i would much rather see the minor nations have as many NRL/SL players as possible its a chance for them to be competitive and put on much better rugby then seeing them all concede 50 or 60 in a half against the big 3\. The players who choose to play for a nation make it for 2 years before they can change again meaning uate will not be in an origin jersey as he is registered to the fiji rugby league for the next 2 years. of course it might not be beneficial for these nations to be dominated by nrl players but the players who are in the team who aren't of NRL or SL quality would get a lot more from the experience that a 24 man local squad

From what I can tell the USARL seems pretty well run. The AMNRL has some decent teams but is terribly organised. The people in charge seem more interested in union. If they ran a joint comp with the best 6 teams and let the others play in regional comps the games would be competitive and there'd be less forfeits. As it is you pretty much go from a new start team to playing some decent teams. Those guys at Jacksonville seem to have a fantastic model for others to follow.

It has but things seemed to have moved on a bit in the last few months. They picked some USARL people in the final game v Canada and they played the USARL GF on the same card as a Tomohawks game, Really it;s up to the international league to withdraw recognition of David Nui and the AMNRL crowd and things will take care of themselves to some extent
