Look forward to it. Nice piece in the DT today @Joel Helmes are you taking over from Brent Read & Buzz?We have some young talent to start getting really excited about. Mac from Wests Tigers Faithful joins us to chat about five young players who could be future Wests Tigers stars. https://weststigerspodcast.com.au/n...layers-to-watch-in-2026-wests-tigers-players/
It's an option but I wouldn't at this stage of Samuela's career. He's starting to flourish as a tackle-breaking off-loading edge backrower and forming a good combination with Luai & May on that left side. What he also does as an edge backrower very well is kick chase & contesting bombs in attack.Interesting one of the views from this podcast about the possibility of moving Sam to the middle, not saying we should do that but from memory that's where he wanted to play at one point in his career.
Probably the only chance of it happening is if someone from underneath knocks the door down during pre-season you would think, given Benji's attitude for reward for effort or old enough if good enough. It's an option but I wouldn't at this stage of Samuela's career. I can't see the case for changing Samuela at this stage, he is on the verge of elite. Find another solution to the problem. It's an option but I wouldn't at this stage of Samuela's career. Both Samuela and Bula need to build their strength though the hips and core, they are both able to get between defenders and almost break through, however they are lacking a bit of strength to actually break the tackle. Taylan has showed us what a quality outside back with core strength can do. I would even say Toa needs to build more strength through the hips and core as most of his breaks are fending off players with his arm and that becomes ineffective once you have a shoulder/elbow/wrist injury which is often inevitable in the course of a whole season.I too was thinking that moving Samuela to the middle would a good option, until the last 8 weeks of the season when he again started to show his value as a tackle busting, line breaking and reacting edge.
If he can consistently show this type of firm it would be crazy to change his position.
Balance is still an issue for me, due to KPP having the same abilities and potential to make the same impact as Samuela, but nether of them have what you would call explosive speed.
That explosive speed over the first 10 or so metres is still something we lack across our squad and I honestly think it could be something that prevents us from being a genuine premiership contender unless we correct it,
It doesn’t necessarily have to be more explosive speed in our edge back row, but if not there we would ideally need to compensate by having it in other areas.
