Footy clubs were once run on raffles not so long ago.

Big business now, sponsorships, corporations….pissy suburban grounds dont come close.

Weve never owned our grounds....what were we supposed to do, build our own?

40 years ago walking along a worn dirt path to ur patch of grass on the hill was 'normal' at the footy....so was taking 2 doz cans in and smoking as well

Times change, but the trip down memory lane is often a great experience. Sadly the younger ones on here never got the chance to spend an afternoon like that with a bunch of mates watching three decent games.

You are right! They are not interested in the history of the Weststigers, only the current team.

If you do not know where you came from, its hard to know where you are going.

I do not like the big stadiums either, having grown up going to Pratten Park, Lidcombe and Campbelltown (Orana Park as it was known).

I never liked Leichhardt but that is just my opinion. No parking nearby, limited undercover, poor facilities etc.

ANZ, although big, has parking next door, a railway near the front gate, great facilities for both fans and players and we get guaranteed money as well. Way to go I am afraid.

Unfortunately money guarantees our future more than sentiment does though. Will be a very sad day when WT no longer play at LO and Cambo, we will have sold away our soul and plenty of tradition.
Money is the bottom line though, we can't survive without it but we will still survive even if we don't play at LO or Cambo. It is the sad reality unfortunately.

Wasn't Souths home ground Redfern Oval? How long since they played there? Unfortunately money is the driving force in rugby league today. If the fans want to support their team they have to turn up to their home game no matter where it is.

unfortunately, CS and LO are done. CS could be viable if it got a bit of gvmt funding (which isn't too farfetched) but given the nature of the JV it wont happen.

Dogs, Souths and Tigers will all share ANZ. Manly at Brookie. Chooks Allianz, Parra at parra (w. wanderers), Penrith will probably stay out there and same for the sharks. although both clubs could go under/relocated you never know.

dragons i'm not sure about. Is WIN viable in the future?

but the dragons and manly seem to be getting decent gvmt support to upgrade and expand grounds.

I'd like to see them stay there to be honest. would get overcrowded at anz/allianz. (gee i sound like someone talking about refugees dont i? :unamused: )

edit: also both have capacities of about 24k.

It won't happen anytime soon but I think that Campbelltown is the logical ground that should be upgraded by the government/NRL.

It has room to expand both in area and grandstands. It is close to public transport.

If a stadia policy is to be properly introduced then there are only 2 suitable ones currently available - ANZ and Alliance, in Sydney. But it is in a huge growth area

The only downside is that we would probably be the only NRL tenant but to me it is no different to Geelong in the AFL. A decent stadium outside of central Sydney.

It would be utilised by other sports to sustain it

Yeah,Campbelltown & Manly are apparently on some sort of NRL/State Govt. short list but i wouldn't be holding my breath whilst waiting.
