Interview with Mick Potter

First time I've really seen him show that kind of emotion. Danny Weidler was a bit in his face.

does anyone else have problems with these videos all the time?
This video is currently not available

Yep me too, I thought it was because I was out of the country ?

After the Sheens years we needed a coach who was hard and fair, we had to get away from the players running the show, so naturally when Potter entered the ring their were a few players who did not like taking a back seat. So the grumbling begins and in any team that is near the bottom they start focusing on everyone but themself. So we hear now Potter has lost the playing group, well lets open the door and let all these unhappy footballers walk out, but our board will take the easy option and move Potter on or push him down a peg or two.

Its easy to see why we are where we are now. This club is crying out for stability and creditability and once again we bow to some over paid under performing spoil t playing group. We surely now are the laughing stock of the NRL

OK, so after reading all the opinions and taking in the evidence I note the following:

1) The younger players are performing under Potter
2) The more established players renewed their contracts under Potter
3) The "dead wood" has been cleared out
4) Potter has been allowed to bring in the players he wants into the club for 2014
5) There is no-one beter to take over from him
6) We have had the worst number of injuries than any club in recent times

So, my conclusion is that this is all a SMOKESCREEN to cover the inclusion of Brooks in Friday nights game. I suspect Mayer and Potter have agreed to put the heat on Potter so that it is taken away from Brooks.

Of course, if Brooks doesn't play on Friday night then I would suggest that Potter sleep with one eye open (which is a real shame).

Payten should never coach the side while ever there are guys he played with running around.

I am glad we got to keep Skando and his TAFE Certificate IV in utter incompetence though :unamused:

smeghead I always value your opinion but this time I think you are wrong payten knows all the young fellows coming through and has coach them to win a comp I think he would be perfect. maybe be I am :crazy

Izotope i agree with all of that, with the exception of the brooks smokescreen stuff.

In regards to a new coach, really, why would we go with another untried NRL coach like Barrett or Parrish or Morgan or Green or …... Really the only experienced guy out there is Henry. Maybe Stone although he only had a year or so.

I like to believe that's right I really would

Not too bothered as long as the next coach doesnt deliver the same results.
Thats leaving all emotions out of it.
This has probably been one of the worst year for our beloved WT Club, cant wait for all the drama to end and us get closer to the top 8 rather than the bottom.

Mick Potter is a class act, he is in Hodgo's mould, he has integrity and he is one tough hombre.

We would be nuts to dump him ( I dont think we will)

IF…if he has lost players respect, he really never had it in the first place imo....and to respect a leader you need to respect yourself, and I think we see only a handful of players that do have self respect, going by some of the recent performances onfield.
Plenty are showing no respect for themselves, their coach, team-mates, the jersey, club and its members.

This is as close to as bad as it gets

Hopefully those 10 fools in charge see some sense for once.

You are giving the, too much credit. The board are too stupid to come up with that theory.

I admire his HONESTY a refreshing change from the past!… They are nuts if they get rid of Potter!
**************************************************************************************************************

Embattled Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter insists he still has the support of his players and says he is the right man to lead the club out of its current predicament.

Potter's future was thrown into further doubt on Thursday morning after the Tigers released a statement indicating his position will be reviewed and that three unnamed support staff will not be returning next season.

But the 2012 English Super League coach of the year is determined to see out the second year of his contract and is adamant he can turn things around next season.

"I think I'm doing a good job and I'm confident I'm doing a good job," a defiant Potter said.

"The signs are there the club is moving forward. There are a lot of young guys who are stepping up right now.

"We are not getting the results right now but the future is looking good."

Pressed on whether he is confident of seeing out his contract, the usually mild-mannered coach bristled: "You are never really sure but I understand I'm under contract for another 12 months.

"I'm confident of keeping my job.

"How confident? Do you want a nine out of 10 or a 10 out of 10? I'm confident of keeping my job."

The Tigers are running second last on the NRL ladder after winning just six of 19 games in Potter's first year at the helm.

The 49-year-old understands the buck stops with him but alluded to his side's heavy injury toll as a contributing factor to their horror campaign.

"I take responsibility for the football team," he said.

"We are where we are a little bit because of circumstances beyond our control but we have had a tough year.

"We don't shy away from that but I'm confident the club can move forward."

Despite rumours of widespread discontent among the playing group, Potter is adamant the players are still playing for him.

"The players are still playing to the best of their ability and I'm confident those younger guys are going to get better in the future and the senior players are doing a job for us," he said.

Former coach Tim Sheens is still being paid by the club after he was shown the door last season with two years still to run on his contract.

The Tigers are desperate to reach a settlement with the current Kangaroos coach but could be forced to pay Sheens until the end of next season.

Asked if it would be a ridiculous situation if the club was to pay two coaches to sit on the sidelines in the event Potter is also sacked, Potter replied: "It sounds ridiculous so I'd say yes, that's a fair comment."

All I can say is I would be extremely disappointed if they sacked potter; amateur move in my view. Even though the tigers are coming second last this season, I think potter is just what the club needs and all the decisions made have been the right ones.

I think it is likely these moves have been made to actually support potter and give him the opportunity to really shape his environment as he wants it. Will have to read the article again, but I think it is a bit of a media beat up re potter getting sacked.

He isn't leaving.

The club just sacked 3 assistant coaches for Potter to build around. I don't think Mayer can release anything too early but he gave us hints last time this rumour came up that Potter is the man for the job.

Everyone relax, his contract is up for a review, maybe one of those people said in this post might be an assistant ? Barrett? Parish? Wouldn't go too bad.

I believe toddy is the man for the job in the future but I think he is doing so good for the kids he should stay as the u20s coach for a while.

It seems to me that those players who are prepared to work with Potter are being kept and those who can't are being shown the door - that suggests to me that Harry will be given next year with his choice of coaching staff and roster to prove himself - he has 12 months to prove that he is the guy to run the show.

Harry should have had his coaching staff in from day one . Nothing was ever going to change otherwise …we go backwards if we give in to the boys club . Benching Marshall was the best thing to happen in a long long time ....

He's finished.

The worst outcome would be to get to round 7 next year and have to remove him. Where would that leave us?

The club knows that and will also know there will be intense media speculation regarding his future tenancy should he survive this year. If he has lost support from key players that is unlikely to change. Uncertainty like this will more than likely impact the bottom line as well in terms of sponsors and membership.

I think its best for all parties that he leave or no longer perform the role of head coach.
