If this does happen which it won't, i can not see myself supporting the Magpies. I think i speak on behalf of most of the teens who Support WT. It is just too hard to support them.

Could you support Balmain?

Don't think so, but it would be much easier to adapt to. Going from Wests Tigers to Balmain Tigers wouldn't be as hard as WT to Wests Magpies.

And therein lies the problem Milky - it shouldn't be any easier to adapt to - your one of the new breed of WT supporters that everyone bangs on about yet you too have shown a bias towards one side of the J V. No better than all us " fossils " on here.

If this happens, my guess is that the Magpies will fold a few years thereafter as well.

7-8k crowd in Campbelltown is not going to cut the mustard espeically if you strip half the supporters away.

MG was an idiot when he played and nothing has really changed in 20 years…..

If Wests can go it alone then why did they merge to begin with??

Milky is saying he supports the "WestsTigers". And doesn't want to support a different team to that of the WestsTigers. Which is completing different to the bickering from old fossils.

If it meant putting an end to all this petty arguing I'd rather just become the West Coast Tigers and play from Perth.

The name of the club is not important. Geyer has just come to his own conclusion that the club is a basket case and taking into account current circumstances, will continue to be so in the short-medium term future.

Geyer would not be alone in thinking that there does not appear to be any strategic plan and given Balmain can't vote on any decision, there will not be one for some time. Does the club move to Campbelltown? Stay at Leichhardt? Play at Homebush? Office location? Will Balmain ever be able to vote again?

No strategic plan, no ability to agree a strategic plan with all the uncertainty of Balmain's existence and hence Geyer's solution is to cut Balmain. You don't have to agree with him.

No it's not - what he said was he could never follow the Wests magpies but could possibly follow balmain tigers - that's a bias towards one side of the JV. Having said that I know what he meant - he follows WT and wouldn't want to follow anyone else.

you would think geyer would love Balmain, considering he got top coin to play along sie some of the greatest players of all time…..and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

He should be using some of the money he got bludging his arse off to help us buy some new players.

Thanks you Mark in advance,

geyer has had too many bongs in his lifetime, and it shows in they way he speaks, a real retard at times.him, johns and that tool tallis have enjoyed the past couple of weeks at our club's expense and like the print papers anything wests tigers related whether good or bad has been blurted out non stop everyday and night because it sells. it's a ratings game. if this stuff was going on at the raiders or the sharks no one would give a rats.

also, if geyer thinks that de-merging our club into what used to be will work he is more brain dead than i thought. unfortunately from a marketing perspective in the nrl the tigers branding is way too valuable to be removed. in a slight similarity i compare it to ferrari in f1, without that team succeeding the sport is suffering. i'm not saying we are any ferrari team, far from it, but without a successful wests tigers team the nrl suffers also.

You sound like a Rabbitohs fan ''When South Sydney is going well, rugby league is going well''.

Could it be that Geyer is trying to destabilise the Wests Tigers, weakening a direct competitor to the Panthers?

I'm dumbfounded here, why should anything that Mark Geyer has to say in regards to our club be even considered, I'm led to the old saying that opinions are just like @##$% everyone has one but it shouldn't be shared.
Geyer did play for Balmain but that should be struck from the record as it was under the Alan Jones regime, when it came to a real coach he dropped his bundle and headed off to Country footy all the while still getting his $$$ from the club he deserted.
Our joint venture is now 15 seasons in the making, we have dodged a few controversies over the years and the current brouhaha should be take with a grain of salt, we are not Salary Cap cheats, we are not a team of @##$$, it seems that it has been a slow news week and the low grubs that call themselves journo's from News Ltd continue to put the boot into our game while those AFL types escape scrutiny despite more on and off field scandals that Rugby League could never envisiage.
In AFL their media keeps scandals secret, in the NRL our media just can't wait to let it all out.

lol… (im actually wearing my retro balmain "philips" jersey right now - number 1 on the back for garry jack! - as i type!) so, my history is a balmain fan since around 1982\. personally, the whole merger was awesome, as my dad played for western suburbs and was a wests fan!
all that said, since 2000 i have been a wests tigers fan and ceased to be a "balmain" fan as a result and have absolutely no problem with it whatsoever and am completely impartial to either side of the wests/balmain dichotomy.

in my opinion, at the time of the merger they chose to retain the mascot of the tiger simply because a tiger is far more marketable than a magpie. and it is just human nature to refer to your team by its mascot; hence why i believe from now it would be more difficult for Milky to change to magpies... if they were the balmain magpies, im sure he would find it hard to support the tigers....

the only things i would (in a perfect world) like to see are the elimination of the magpie from the jersey (upsets people i know, but they aren't the magpies any more - they are the tigers) and for the club to be renamed either WEST SYDNEY TIGERS or similar as the actual name WESTS TIGERS is not only difficult to say correctly, not to mention grammatically nonsensical, but it also retains the duality of the two foundation clubs, wests and tigers.

so often such suggestions offend people, but as Fraze says (btw, personally, i live in perth so bring them here!!! jk...) people need to stop living in the past and just embrace the club as an entity of its own identity (albeit derivative).

that rhymed... except for the part in brackets....

I think the bias towards the balmain tigers has nothing to do with balmain or wests but more so the tiger brand. I can relate to Milky as i could support say the Concord tigers or Campbeltown tigers but would struggle to support the balmain magpies or wests bulldogs. I think thats the issue with the joint venture bias and the reasoning balmain gets more media bias, it all comes down to the tiger mascot.

You Balmain people make me sick as it is always about you. The so-called spiritual home - Leichhardt Oval, the so-called legends of the club running the show - all Balmain (aka Steve 'Moo Moo' Roach), the one inch Magpie on the sleeve that most players tape up (yet we are supposed to take it on the chin), the fact that the club is run out of Balmain territory and Wests' supporters get the rough end of the pineapple in that they only ever get shithouse home games at Campbelltown at shithouse times. I'm from WA and can see it from here but I guess that doesn't matter since I'm only from the other (Magpies) side.

I'm sorry. I thought we supported west tigers. Last time I checked wests magpies and balmain tigers don't exist. Move on.
