Wests Tigers sign Blake Austin and Cory Paterson

I think young Austin could develop into a player similar to Greg Bird. He's a versatile player so I think we'll get good value out of him.

Paterson has had quite the journey for his young age. If I remember correctly he has turned to the Muslim faith to deal with his issues which I believe included depression. He's capable of playing pretty good footy and being a pretty damaging player. Here's hoping he finds that football with us.

I wouldn't call either of them great singings. They could easily be the next Bodene Thompson or Pettybourne. Here's hoping they're impact and performances are a bit better then the both of them.

Austin was a star on the rise not so long ago, Penrith paid a fortune for him.

Patterson has talent and baggage, Could go either way.

Both could be excellent or depth only.

Not sure on Corey if he is just another in the long list of Weststigers recruits that just dont have what it takes. Could be wrong and only on a one year contract theirs not a lot of risk involved.

On the other hand Blake Austin, was a gun junior who has struggled a little in the top grade but by all accounts is a standout in the reserve grade competition. Got a good feeling about this one, strikers me as a player who can end up like a Luke Lewis. I draw comparisons with Tom Humble, but I think Austin is way better

I think Paterson is a very clever sign.

Size..yes.Offload…yes.Mongrel....yes.

And can score a pie too.

Big tick from me.....Ive always liked how this kid played.

Surprising that they haven't mentioned Austin's ability in the backrow. They must have signed him as a centre and halves cover. Hopefully they don't overlook his ability in the backrow.

“He can cover centre, half, five-eighth and **lock** and is also an excellent goal kicker."

Looks like they have that covered mate

There is a difference between a lock and a back rower. Quite a big difference. Now more than ever.

yet another example of average mediocre signings from Wests , but we are all used to it ..patto will only some impact off the bench value , and as for Austin ,I think he may be the new Timmy Moltzen when he can make the top grade .

I have a feeling these will be great signings and provide depth and variety going forward which should provide some genuine competition and coverage for sots. More of Potter's influence and less of Sheens and this is a very good thing.

Me too,it is a no brainer signing,he is playing for bugger all to try and re establish himself back in the NRL,if he goes great we keep him,if he fails we have lost not much, whats not to like.

Good stuff.

I remember Paterson terrorizing Lui one night against the Knights. He's probably been one of the best edge backrowers in the ESL this year. Along with Sirro and BMM they should provide some line breaking ability and size in the back row next year.

Don't know too much about Austin, but we needed some depth in the halves with Benji gone and Moses not ready yet. Hopefully when Moses is ready, Austin will be big enough to go into the back row full time.

Of course those bagging the Paterson signing have watched enough of him in SuperLeague to make that call right?

I hope your right simon ,its just neither signing really makes me think , wow mcdonnells signed two top players ,, both come with some doubt .Austin is probably the one who may show something ,but we can only hope . this season has been very disappointing with some of the individual peahearted efforts by some

those bagging Patterson have probably seen him play for years in the nrl ,, but don't play up any esl form ,,its a tad above park football …

Paterson will probably be Ok but I'm not sure about accepting a Penrith reject …....... especially if its Phil Gould doing the rejecting. Still he might help bolster the State Cup team.

Thats the spirit!!

Listen, I;ll buy you a full size Luke Brooks poster when they produce one to replace your tatty benji one OK.

Cheer up

Yeah yeah allright
You drive a hard bargain though :unamused:

Our backrow stocks are low so I guess Patterson is a decent acquisition. He has had his off field demons which may be a problem, plus he is a mate of Mundine which is a red flag, but worst case scenario he is a reserve grader for us.

Austin is a decent signing.
